Although the bad picture happened by accident, there is a poetic justice in showing prehistory in less than clear terms. After all there is a lot that is unknown about lives and livelihoods from times before written records: no names of persons, places, or events, much less daily life and interior life of individuals of the time.

 

This photo from the Imari City Museum shows one of the cases with stone tools and labels with excavation data. Interpretation is sparse, though, since it is hard to say with certainty much about the makers and uses and (symbolic) meanings to go with the durable stone.
