This is a little serial programmer i built up for Arduio. It uses a max232 chip instead of the inverter that the official kits use, which means it gets a full voltage swing on the output. Other than that, it should be the same.

I met Mike (with the hat) and Jose (slightly startled look) in the Eagle Pub in Cambridge, not far from the Market Square, whilst enjoying a well earned Cheese & Coleslaw sandwich and black coffee.

I was in Cambridge for the day on a Photo Walk with a group of 9 like-minded FLICKR members and had decided along with two others (Belle and Steve) to have a quick snack and drink before we set off on our respective journeys home.

We were just about finished our meal when Mike spotted our cameras (all Nikon) and asked if one of us would take some quick shots of then on his iPhone - to which I agreed and proceeded to do so - Mike held up a menu from the pub and Jose held up a copy of a news paper and asked that these be included in the pictures - without prompting Mike started to explain the reason for this.

It turns out that a friend of theirs (Connor Crowley) has challenged them to eat a Roast Dinner in a different establishment on each Sunday of 2012 - and this was their first (Roast Beef)

They missed Sunday 1st January as Jose was in Portugal and Mike was just "hanging out"

Their reward for completing this is for their friend Connor to cook them the "mother of all Roasts" at his house at the end of the year......... If for some reason they don't manage to eat a roast dinner on a particular Sunday they have to eat two the following Sunday (but in different eateries)

Both work for a Computer Games company located on the Science Park Cambrigde - Mike who is 26 is a designer and Jose who is 22 is a programmer.

Mike tells me that the maddest thing he has done was to manage to sneak back-stage at a Party In The Park concert a few years ago and get in on some pictures with Prince Charles.

Jose couldn't hink of anything mad but said that he started to write a book about himself when he was 20 but so far has only got as far a a few pages of bullet points.

I gave them one of my free MOO cards and they agreed to email me with details of a webpage that will chart their progress in their Sunday Roast Marathon. It is quite possible that they will write reviews on each of their meals and the relevant places they eat along the way.

Thanks guys for your time, I hope you like the shot and enjoyed your meal.

Good luck in your "project" and get that book finished Jose !!

Scientists will use the data to develop computer programs for the upcoming Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) mission.

Part of a series of photographs documenting people within the area I have just moved to, and London as a whole. The photographs are spontaneous, taking little more than a minute from approaching a subject to bidding them good day after taking their portrait. All the photographs in the series are shot with a Canon 5Dii and a 50mm f/1.4 lens at f/2.2 using only natural light.

Microwave Programmer

I'm a programmer, so for me screen space is king. I run KDE on gentoo linux with a dual screen and 6 virtual desktops. I tend to run windows maximised, and each desktop has a basic function. The important things for me are keeping up to date with information and communication.

Desktop 1: I use Kontact (KDE PIM) to keep track of email/mailing lists, aggregate my rss feeds, hold all my contacts, and maintain a todo list.

Desktop 2: Two Konsole terminals with numerous tabs live here for compiling and other maintenance. Sometimes I run a second instance of Kdevelop here if I'm working on two projects concurrently.

Desktop 3: I do most of my programming here, the main Kdevelop window occupies the left screen, and the Assistant lives on the right screen to display documentation and API's.

Desktop 4: Xchat lives here for all my ircing needs.

Desktop 5: All browser windows get sent here, I have a session saving instance of Firefox permanently open for pages that I need, quick browsing tends to get done in a number of Konqueror windows/tabs I open on demand.

Desktop 6: amaroK lives here for all my music needs. A more perfect tricked out music player can't be found. Global shortcuts rock.

Miscellaneous: Kopete is my instant messaging client, Kget my download manager. BasKet (http://basket.kde.org) is a handy little tool that I use as a second todo list, and to hold any snippets of information that I might need.

I can access any desktop directly via the shortcut Ctrl+Alt+F# where # is the desktop I want, or I can move left or right through desktops with Ctrl+Alt+Left/Right.

Urban Space Epics is a project started by author/programmer/performance-poet Darrell Jónsson in the 1980s as a framework to combine 20th century experimental film techniques, innovative music, and epic narrative chants into live expanded cinema.

Visually the camera is the paint brush and projectors are musical instruments. Using montages of found images combined with photography and footage filmed on location at sites that include Mexico, Spain and Morocco. Film sequences often feature a form of stop frame animation using shapes abstracted from urban architecture and plant life as a base material.

Musically the live soundtrack of Urban Space Epics uses Moog synthesizer, kalimbas, marimba, woodwinds and a variety of electronic and ethnic instruments. These instruments combine in motifs and methods inspired by Dinaric Gusla, Icelandic Rímur, Slavonic and Native American folklore, Rock and Soul, Krautrock, free jazz and 20th century contemporary music.

It's great that Lego have released a new Lobot figure but one thing I don't understand- why have they given him a blaster?

I have swapped his blaster for the programmers coffee cup... it seems a far more appropriate accessory for Cloud Citys computer-liaison officer!
