Origine:

Écossaise issue d'une sélection de la Galloway, Cette race est originaire du sud-ouest de l'Écosse, dans le district de Galloway, sur les bords de la mer d'Irlande, pays accidenté et à climat rude.

Morphologie:

Elle porte une robe noire ceinturée par une large bande blanche au niveau du ventre. Elle n'a pas de cornes. Son poids atteint 500 à 600 kg pour une taille réduite de 1,20 m.

Aptitudes:

C'est une race bouchère. Elle est massive pour la production de carcasses bien remplies avec un pourcentage d'os faible.

C'est une race rustique qui peut s'adapter aux climats rudes : le gouvernement américain a introduit cette race bovine en Alaska où elle fut exploitée pour la production de la viande; elle s'est montrée la plus apte à prospérer dans ce rude climat.

La beauté de sa robe et sa taille réduite en font aussi une race élevée par des amateurs pour l'entretien d'un espace rural.

Along Sunda Kelapa Harbor you could see Phinisi ships in a line, which have unique shape and the body painted in some different colors. Phinisi ships were coming from many regions of Indonesia, carrying logs, rattan, copra and other agricultural products to Jakarta.

When Phinisi goes back from Jakarta, it carries construction materials like steel and cement. You could see the hectic of loading and unloading activities that is still conducted traditionally at Sunda Kelapa.

A display of the various products produced from the iron ore smelter at The Lone Pine mine on Red Mountain in Alabama in the early 1900's..and my second photomerge of 2 images

Due to the hard slow pull up and over the NS I was able to beat the loaded steel train coming out of Burns Harbor to the next crossing where the train is mostly on level ground but still no where near track speed and still pulling hard with a nice smoke show trailing behind.

IC #6252 and company are almost finished dumping their fresh loads of taconite on Dock 6 as the sky's pinks and purples fade to dark blues and the lights across the harbor in Superior begin to twinkle. The dock loads ships via a conveyor belt system or gravity-feed; the conveyor belt system can load 10,000 tons of iron ore pellets onto a ship per hour. With marine shipping closed for the winter season though, the taconite will get added to the massive stockpiles (frame left) and get shipped out in the spring when the harbor opens up again.

Of the six docks, the first was originally built on the Superior side of the harbor in 1892. The Duluth Mesabi & Northern Railway built their first wooden ore dock here the next year in 1893. As ore mining exploded on the Mesabi Iron Range into the next decade, the railroad built larger and more advanced ore docks to accommodate the steam freighters that were increasing in size.

By World War One, there were four ore docks almost a half-mile long operating here alongside smaller docks for receiving coal and limestone. The adjacent and inactive Dock 5 was built back 1914 while Dock 6 was indeed the sixth and final dock built at this location in 1918. Over time, the smaller, wooden ore docks were retired and deconstructed while the steel docks remained.

To the very far right is CN's Hallett Dock, used for both outgoing and incoming cargos. Various products are handled here from bentonite clay and limestone, both used in the taconite production process.

Reading & Northern APEX-19 passes the CNJ searchlight signals at CP-CRESTWOOD on the RBMN main. The train consists of a heat exchanger from the Air Products plant in Hanover Township, PA. The load is big enough to be spread across two dimensional flat cars, with two extra spacer flats on either side. Unfortunately, the whole Air Products operation here is scheduled to close later in 2017, making shots like this a thing of the past.
