Love is in the air, but it is a bit smelly.

Created a studio today. I used colored printerpaper on the table and against the wall. Want to do something completely different. It is more difficult then outside photograpy. But the advantage is that you can create your own composition and color. Especially lightning is difficult!

Ik wilde vandaag eens iets totaal anders doen. Zo heb ik een kleine studio gemaakt. Gekleurd printerpapier op een tafel en tegen de muur. Grote voordeel is dat je je eigen compositie kan maken en ook je eigen kleuren kan gebruiken. Je hebt er wel veel geduld voor nodig. Belichten is niet erg makkelijk.

L'inhumaine is an old experimental French black and white movie, from 1924, in which a guy drives his car on long and winding streets.

I used the wraps of a package A4 printer paper from our office, to paint and draw the car as I remembered it from the film.

Another experiment in lighting from Lighting Science and Magic. Here my subject is a 5mm x 2mm wing of a standard issue housefly, which my mantis provides in abundance. The background a standard sheet of printer paper. The light source is speedlight, to the left of the subject, upside down with its top lying against the tabletop. This extremely shallow angle brings out the surface texture of an otherwise extremely flat subject and background.

This is a fanmail-ish card I made for Hope For Agoldensummer. For this, the inside of the card, I messed with incorporating a 3-dimensional handdrawn element, i.e. the green, old-fashioned printer paper, which is actually folded as well as drawn and cut so as to look folded. Also, the shadows on the paper are painted on. I geeked out pretty hard making this, but gee it was fun!

I also wanted to play some really static, cold imagery off of the more lush, warm-colored cover image.

I haven't looked at this in while. I made this back in February or March of this year, so it's been a minute, yeah?

I love the way Ferrari Black smells. For all the time i spent with its more Extreme counterpart, i didn't once spray it on myself, but i assume it is a heavier more masculine iteration of my scent. Mine tends to exude more of a svelte attitude with a pleasant undertone. (All very ambiguous terms, and i'm okay with that)

I took a little time to set up my DIY background, softbox (camera left) with 1 SB-600 and one piece of printer paper for a bounce at camera right.

I couldn't decide which i liked better so as i've learned: when in doubt, DIPTYCH!

just packing boxes & getting ready to return to soCal.(all my books are packed, thus you see, no drills) I have not been drawing much, and drawing nothing from life right now. But I have been hanging out with my kid at the kitchen table... coloring and doing fun drawings from my head, like this one which pleases me.

I whipped this out on standard office paper, colored it then added some shading to the face with colored pencil, also shaded the neck ruffle and used correction fluid on the edges which were initially drawn in purple. I used black colored pencil on top of the background to push the figure a little bit forward.

I spent the day with my Mom yesterday. I really needed to. This week has been so up and down, and last week was upsetting too. It was great seeing my Dad this week, & then the end of the week just kind of went pear shaped.

When I had to watch my Mom walk away down the street it was the weirdest feeling. I've never really done that before. Usually I've been the one leaving - getting on a plane, getting on a train. When my parents have taken me places sure I've waved them off when they got back in the car, but actually being in the middle of a street, waving her off, knowing that she was going back home and I was making my own way elsewhere . . . I don't know. It was just strange. I mean, sure, I've seen her go down the street in the past when we were going our own ways for a few hours, & I've hugged her at home before she's gone to catch a train or plane, but this was really different. It seemed like something I'd only ever done with friends - you know, you meet up with them for a day out, & then at the end of the day you hug & kiss each other & wave as you each go back to your own home. I felt so empty when I had to do that with my Mom.

(I watched a video on how to make these last night. The big one on the right is a flapping bird, rather than a crane, except the wings hardly flap. Also, I wish I could focus better with this camera. It was 50/50 whether I brought my DSLR to uni, and for photos like this it would have been useful.)

I have until Thursday & Friday to do everything apart from writing an essay & reading Suite Francaise, but those will probably be the two I end up not doing.

Actually, I have done some of my work for the weekend: I read all of Thomas Wyatt's poetry in my Norton Anthology, & I read The Aeneid: Books 4-6 (I was supposed to do that before my lecture, but it's so much easier to make notes while you read it once you've already been told what's important).
