Another benefit will be to keep printer clean from dust and other contaminants. The plexiglass is off-the-shelf 18" x 24" panels from Home Depot, the rest of the hardware is 3DPrinted.

Half-assed plastic working. A line is scored in the plastic, and then a force is evenly applied along the score. If you do this quickly, evenly, and are of pure heart, you will get a smooth break. Leverage seems to work much better than trying to apply a sudden shock.
