Church Square (Afrikaans: Kerkplein), originally Market Square (Dutch: Marktplein) is the square at the historic centre of the city of Pretoria, South Africa.

The founder of Pretoria, Marthinus Pretorius, determined that the square be used as a market place and church yard. It was subsequently named for the church buildings that stood at the centre of the square from 1856 to 1905.

The square's most prominent feature, since June 1954, is however the statue of the late Boer leader and president of the South African Republic, Paul Kruger, at its centre.[2] Statues of four anonymous Boer citizen-soldiers surround that of Kruger on a lower level of the plinth.

And behind every curtain, a drama.

These flats are located in the Pretoria suburb of Sunnyside, which is a bit like Hillbrow in Johannesburg. I took this shot from Hotel 224 in Arcadia, Pretoria, when I was there a few years ago with Joburg Photowalkers and Pretoria Stadstapper Fotoklap.

Curio and Angel were nice enough to come pay me a visit in Pretoria and we had a fun afternoon painting. Big chrome, big heat (both in climate and content) and big thanks for coming out

We can't deny it - the soccer world cup is around the corner :-)

The fountain was created by the Florentine sculptor Francesco Camilliani in 1554. In 1573, don Luis's financial problems reached such an extent that he decided to sell the fountain. The vice-king of Sicily at that time was the brother of don Lus don García de Toledo, and G. de Toledo was the mediator between the quarreling brother, on the one hand, and the Senate of Palermo, on the other. On May 26, 1574, the fountain arrived in Palermo in a disassembled form for 644 details, and then was assembled under the leadership of Camillo Camilliani. Some of the sculptures were beaten, two remained in Florence and are now in the Bargello Museum, something else was taken by don Luis to Naples, so the Pretoria Palermo fountain turned out to be a little poorer than itself, but in a Florentine form.

Cars in the Park is the biggest event of this nature in the country. More than 2500 vintage and classic vehicles built before 1985 are displayed by more than 100 clubs and a number of private individuals at POMC - CARS in the PARK.

On a chilly August morning, Rovos Rail's class 19D - No.3360 - simmers away at Rovos Rail's depot in Capitol Park, Pretoria.

Soon 3360 will be bought to 'full steam' and moved to the station, where passengers for a regular Cape Town Train will get to view 3360.

Taken during a Stimela Photographic Event's visit to Rovos Rail.

Pretoria, South Africa

A capture of part of the Pretoria Central Business District, taken from the top of the hill at the National Zoological Gardens in Pretoria. Pretoria is one of South Africa's three Capital Cities, being the site of the Executive branch of government. Cape Town is the Legislative capital, being home to parliament, and Bloemfontein is the Judicial Capital. Pretoria falls into the municipal jurisdictional area known as Tshwane. This is now a northern extension of the Gauteng/Greater Johannesburg 'megalopolis' or mega-conurbation.

Strangely, this was a rather difficult capture. It was an uncommonly hazy day, so capturing detail and definition were compromised. Rather than using a circular polarizing filter, I tried various settings and settled for 1/250 sec, the camera's base ISO of 200 and an aperture of f 18 !! I also raised the menu sharpness to +2 and the highlight and shadows settings to +1 each. It was handheld. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pretoria#Union_of_South_Africa and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_Tshwane_Metropolitan_Munici...
