I engaged my other favourite photog Yannick Sands - hush Berry; you know I still love you - to create this for me. My brief was exactly this "windswept white vampire lord with heaps of pale skin out being pretentious and moody and all deep with feelings and crap" and as you can see, he totally nailed it!

SO HAPPY WITH THIS.

Just a cloud...

I thought I’d shoot this as it looked lovely against the blue sky, with the setting sun behind it. When I uploaded from my camera to my iPad, I realised that there were pearlescent edges around the cloud: Wiki informs me it’s a type of photometeor, a topic in atmospheric optics...Apparently, this phenomenon is caused by individual water droplets or ice particles diffracting sunlight.

Aye, I just thought it was a wee fluffy cloud.

I almost called this shot, “Lenticular Iridescence” but thought that was a little pretentious...Well, it IS named after the shape of a lentil...😉

Ghost In The Music - a beautiful song by Nancy Griffith:

“Tell me, where is ...the refuge for these poor and these fallen?

It rests in the lines like a ghost in the music

The soul of America’s pride.”

Well we are back in Hull after a great week on the coast. On our final day of our holiday we drove about twenty miles north to the very pretty village of Runswick Bay . We had a good walk along the beach in sweet light , it felt more like early summer than November. Runswick is smaller than Robin Hoods Bay but it has similar ingredients little cottages huddled together under cliffs . The thatched property on the extreme right of the village is the only remaining thatched house on the Yorkshire coast.

Although it appears a timeless scene, Runswick has seen dramatic changes. Due to the instability of the soft, slippery Jurassic shales, there was a landslip in 1682 and the whole village had to be rebuilt. They made a very good job

Anyway we had such an enjoyable week and our cottage was so comfortable that we have booked it again in November 2022. Cornwall may be more fashionable and popular but I would choose North Yorkshire anytime . Its much more peaceful, less pretentious and the beer is better

THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT TO MY STREAM.

Out back on the deck.....

And speaking of decks, after many years I found it's not a deck at all, but a veranda, since it's totally covered by the roof of the house..

Tho we still call it a deck.

Sorry for such spasmodic visiting and commenting, but duriing my house move I am struggling with a very slow and unreliable Internet connection. I hope it improves.

Thanks Alan (eye of Einstein) for your suggestion of a title --- maybe a little pretentious?

How's this for a waterfall?

Single exposure in bulb mode with an ND filter. Not HDR. Not cropped.

When I read the name, "Cathedral Falls" on the map, I thought to myself, "Ok that is a tiny bit pretentious. This had better be one damn fine waterfall." When I saw it in person, I was blown away. This waterfall absolutely lives up to the name.

Sorry about the pretentious title :-)

Another taken at Manito Park in Spokane this week & a further sign that Spring is near! I like the 3 different stages of flowering, 3 sizes, the light, the intimate landscape feel … so I hope my title isn’t too pretentious.

Crocuses are native to woodland, scrub, and meadows from sea level to tundra. They can be white, yellow, lilac to dark purple or variegated. They symbolize rebirth, hope, joy, and new beginnings & are among the 1st flowers to emerge after winter.

I couldn’t let today pass without some kind of post about motorcycles and riding…. Well, scooter in this case, but hey, artistic license. RIP bro.

There have been several moments recently I wish I could get back to a time when I hadn't been taking photographs for so long, a more innocent time when I didn't worry about developing an artistic vision and other such pretentious rubbish and photography was just fun and not much else. It seems now it fills just about my entire day with thoughts different locations, weather maps, sunrise/sunset times so much so I usually end up crippled by indecision and get nowhere. On Sunday morning just gone I did get somewhere even if it was the very short journey to Chemical Beach. It didn't look particularly promising at first but some nice cloud came along and it turned out to be a really good morning, fun you could say. Unfortunately the clock can't be turned back and I'm sure I'll soon be back to unhealthy levels introspection and indecision.

Jasper sometimes spends an evening down at the Old Kennel Klub. We've warned him that the place seems a bit stuffy and pretentious, but he insists that its not. Yes, they have a dress code and yes, they only serve the finest water, but at the core the members are just a bunch of good dogs. I saw Jasper tip his waiter a big bone so I know he treats the staff well.

Winter seas are often a problem for Aberystwyth, its low promenade and sea defences have taken many a pummelling.

Standing with a folding vest pocket camera to photograph an angry sea alongside people wielding the most up-to-date of Nikons and Canons is a peculiar experience. Almost fraudulent or pretentious. Yet I cannot deny liking this particular frame.

Great word, isn't it? Just rolls off the tongue. While its use might admittedly fall under the heading of pretentious for those very few who might somehow know its meaning, it remains a tragedy what is happening to our language and the ever increasing disdain and lack of concern for vocabulary. Do the schools still teach it? Do standardized tests still recognize excellence in it? Or have we become so "woke" that the only things that matter are recognition of our "unconscious or implicit racial bias" or that gender is something that can be chosen by our children from 70+ options. I think we all know the answer to that.

The one word that our present culture wildly accepts and inappropriately and indiscriminately uses begins with "f" and was, above all others, taboo when I was young. Is this a sign of an advancing culture or one in decline? A rhetorical question, but I, for one, still cringe when I hear it. As our language coarsens, so does our civility. In a time of equal parts tragedy and nonsense, it's truly a shame to see all our cultural norms and mores decline so quickly.

And from what I understand defines being "woke," count me as soundly asleep.

There is an old Japanese proverb that reads as follows.

Those who accomplish the most are the least pretentious.

Leave me

Do you make or take a photo? It’s not derogatory question I’m curious, a bit of fun. The general term is to take a photograph, but that’s too simple for some and try to infuse they own contribution to the process. The great Ansel Adams would insist that he made a photograph rather than took it. I have noticed highly regarded landscape photographers of today using this term. I myself have dropped into the language of making a photo, when I’m rather pleased with the composition I’ve crafted out, but the more I think about it, am I being pretentious. Make means to create, to force, to cause to happen, what if anything in this photo I took last night fit’s that description. The sea stack has been created by thousands of years of erosion, the sea and its movement has been caused by the tide and the dynamics of air and sea currents. Can standing in the right place with a mastery of the gadget in my hands capturing the scene in front me, be described as making a photograph. Did I make a digital image, no the camera did that. Did I make a 20 by 16 print, no my printer did that. At the end of the day I think it comes down to your confidence in your photography, are you creating a piece of art or catching a moment. Myself I think I’m more comfortable to using the verb take, how about you?

Excuse me if I am being pretentious, but I came across this word which I didn’t know recently and I like it.

„I.U. MUSEUM S.L.L.S.“

„In uno Museum Societatis Litterarum Lusatiae Superioris“

„Das ganze Gebäude möge eine Stätte für gelehrte Studien der Oberlausitzischen Gesellschaft der Wissenschaften sein.“

The Baroque house Neißstraße 30 is an important trading and residential building from the Baroque period in Goerlitz, which was built between 1727 and 1729 after the city fire.

Since 1951 it has been used as part of the city's cultural history museum. It is located in the middle of the old town.

The portal of the house has a mighty gable with two gable figures and an ornate cartouche. The inscription in the cartridge reads:

"I.U. MUSEUM S.L.L.S. "

"In uno Museum Societatis Litterarum Lusatiae Superioris"

"The whole building may be a place for scholarly studies by the Upper Lusatian Society of Sciences."

Taken at Midnight in Paris.

(It’s a joke, ever since i was little and watching Monty Python, they always made fun of the French, and it’s stuck with me as a funny stereotype)

Give me your wondering eyes

and I'll peer into the roots of things.

Give me your skilful hands

and I'll sow the seeds of your dreams.

Give me your chestful of thoughts

and I'll pour its treasures through the sky.

Give me your breath of life

and I'll spread my wings to fly.

Give me your awestruck silence

and it'll ease the agony of absence.

Give me your warm, glowing heart

and I'll be alive, at last.

Hi my friends, here it is another sunrise from Umbria, Italy - actually, same time and same place as one of my previous uploads (Then Someone drew the curtains and..., as you can easily see from the warped trunk of the oak tree near the center of the scene).

If you are thinking that it is a bit more than pretentious that an Italian is composing verses in English, you are in part right - only in part, though, since I do not assume that I have written good verses, but I felt like trying to convey the emotions that went with the adventure of processing this scene. Hope that the result is at least decent.

I have obtained this picture by blending an exposure bracketing [-1.3/0/+1.3 EV] by luminosity masks in the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal exposure" shot), then I added some final touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4 (and a little trick of mine involving a bw version of the photo). Raw files has been processed with Darktable.

Diner's evolved for the need of quick food in busy areas be it factory districts, busy city areas or along busy highways. Many of the older diners were built from converted buses or passenger rail cars. But during the 1950's with the building of the Interstate highway system combined with the prosperity of the era large scale diners started being built providing non pretentious comfort food with large mega calorie portions and heart attack caffeine levels in their coffee to wake up sleep deprived patrons with a long day of work ahead of them all at a reasonable price. Spending nearly fifty years traveling though the whole lower 48 I have stopped at far more diners than I possibly remember. Oh course not all diners are great and some are down right horrible but when in doubt always use the parking lot test. A good quality diner especially by evening should have a nearly full parking lot. Go to a diner or any restaurant for that matter by early evening and there is only a handful of cars and it's usually for a reason and it's best to pass it by.

Happy Bench Monday!

Neighbor: “Hi Neighbor."

Wife: "Hi Neighbor, how are you?"

Neighbor: “I’m good. Hey, I see 5 of the last 6 photos Steve posted were of benches. I know he is trying to be an online bench influencer, but why so many bench photos in one week?”

Wife: “He pitched his Bench Calendar idea to Disney and he’s trying to see which shots would sell best. This one is from the lobby of a nice Disney resort restaurant.”

Neighbor: “He thinks Disney would sell his bench calendar?”

Wife: “Well, he’s nothing if not enthusiastic. He thinks the kids would love it even more than Mickey Mouse ears and Star Wars light sabers.”

Neighbor: “But the photo he posted would have no appeal to kids. It’s like an old Victorian classic image. The kids would call it ‘Bourgie’ and pretentious.”

Wife: “I know. But Steve thinks he has his fingers on the pulse of what kids think is neato now days, and they would dig the balloons.”

Neighbor: “And he sent Disney an actual proposal?”

Wife: “Yup, and he’s checked the mailbox a dozen times today.”

Neighbor: “Whew boy. Let me know when they respond.”

Wife: “I’m not looking forward to that. He’s so excited about spreading the bench gospel to the youth that I know he will be bench-bummed when the rejection letter arrives."

Neighbor: “What did he say when you told him that?”

Wife: “He said, ‘May the Happy Bench Magic be with you!’”

The Devil's Bathtub is the name given to a local natural land formation (a glacial hole) in Mendon Ponds Park. Otherwise, this photo would be in the running for the most pretentious image title on Flickr.

OK...pretentious title, but listening to a Prom with a theme of space travel...so feeling arty.

Taken at high tide last week at the same time as the dog was being carried through the jet wash in my last upload.

There's a certain point either side of high tide at New Brighton where the incoming wave meets a rebounding one that has been reflected off the sea wall and some interesting 'greetings' can result, especially with a significant onshore wind.

- Lyrics -

I just gotta be honest

I don't like the way she dresses

Or the way that she pronounce her "S"es

And I'm just sayin' what they thinking

'Cause they don't, they don't know you, no

Like I know you, no

I'm not tryna be pretentious

But we know we had was the bestest

Now, you hidin' behind white picket fences

And she know she don't know you, no

Like I know you, no

Not that I'm supposed to be

Nice and everythin'

On some feminism shit, yeah

Not that it's not for me

Maybe it's jealousy

Maybe it's not

I just think she's kinda ugly

I'm not trying to be cruel

But the way she calls you hubby

Before the altar, alters you, uh

And you know I'm not tryna waste your time

But I know if I had some I would change your mind

I just think she's kinda ugly

And that she's not the one for you

Let's not get this confused

Look at her and look at you (Yeah)

She'll mess up your genetic pool

And I would never do that

I would just improve that

Not that I'm supposed to be (Oh)

Nice and everythin' (Oh)

On some feminism shit, yeah

Not that it's not for me (Oh)

Maybe it's jealousy

Maybe it's not

I just think she's kinda ugly (I just think she's kinda ugly)

I'm not trying to be cruel (I'm not trying to be cruel)

But the way she calls you hubby

Before the altar, alters you, uh

And you know I'm not tryna waste your time

But I know if I had some I would change your mind

I just think she's kinda ugly

And that she's not the one for you, for you

I don't know if I'm like, more concerned, or confused

That's the thing

It just doesn't make any sense

But why?

Why would you do that though? Like

I just think she's kinda ugly

I'm not trying to be cruel (Don't need to? Why?)

But the way she calls you hubby (It just seems unnecessary to me, it's fine)

Before the altar, alters you, uh

(I'm not even mad about it, I'm not mad, not even mad)

And you know I'm not tryna waste your time

But I know if I had some I would change your mind

I just think she's kinda ugly

And that she's not the one for you
