Wisconsin Central’s westbound PRANA freight, led by EMD F45 No. 6651, switches at Black Wolf, Wisconsin, as the man on the ground tries to stay warm at the junction switch. Winter can last a long time in Wisconsin, as attested by this April 30, 1996, photograph!
In a typical Wisconsin winter that never seems to end, Wisconsin Central’s westbound PRANA freight, led by EMD F45 No. 6651, slogs through wet snow at Oshkosh on April 30, 1996.

Cold it was when I shot CNW train PRANA at Powers on February 13, 1994 with WC 4010 and 4159. WC often assigned there own power to the CNW jobs running north of Green Bay choosing to use the high hp units CNW sent out of Proviso for other jobs while in Green Bay.
On August 21, 1993, FRV's DS had the crews of GBPRA and PRANA swap trains at BR siding located between West Bend and Kewaskum.
PRANA (The Piranha) was a C&NW train that FRV forwarded between Butler and Duck Creek (North Green Bay), while GBPRA was a daily regular FRV train.
I don't remember if this crew swap was because one crew was short on time, or if the FRV was keeping crews close to their home terminals with the impending Wisconsin Central/Fox Valley & Western takeover looming.
In any case, this was the last FRV photograph I would take, as the end came at 12:01 AM on Saturday, August 28, 1993.
A set of Fox River Valley Power, GP35 831, SD35 2500 and GP30 815 have just arrived at Quinnesec with C&NW train PRANA on March 14, 1992.

Well due to internet problems I've missed a few days on Flickr. I haven't kicked the bucket yet but my modum did. I'll post a couple this evening and hopefully again tomorrow if work doesn't overwhelm me. This shot is by Joe Seidl and has CNW train PRANA powered by WC 312 and 4310 at Powers on January 5, 1994. The WC had stored the ex GB&W Alco's within a couple weeks of buying the GB&W and FRVR but power short in a bitter winter 93-94 a few of the Alco's were called back into service to mostly switch Green Bay. The WC often supplied power to CNW for the PRANA/ANPRA trains north of Green Bay and those became another location the ex GB&W Alco's worked to the chagrin of the CNW crews who had seen there last Alco's in 1986. PRANA, led by former C&NW GP7 4151, has stopped at the depot in Marinette, WI in February 1994. The conductor has gone inside to get updated paperwork off the fax machine. Soon the train will resume its journey north.
There's something that I love about the course of rivers ...
this shot is of the River Welland which rises some five miles south west from where this picture was taken in Market Harborough and flows for some 65 miles in total, north east until it reaches the wash and the north sea.

The title says it all here as I arrived, for the first time, the stillness was changing by the second as I fumbled about to get a few shots not knowing the best place to be then the movement was all around me.
CNW train PRANA has arrived at Powers and after doing the local work and meeting the turn out of Escanaba has backed around the wye onto the line to Escanaba and now waits for ANPRA to arrive from Iron Mountain and clear. The crew has took this bit of spare time to head over to the local restaurant and grab a quick lunch leaving 5090 and 4170 idling out of the way east of the depot. January 28, 1995.
Natural light portrait of my daughter. I handcrafted her head piece from Bristol board, fabric, quartz crystals, glass and pearl beading. She is wearing a dress I wore as a child :)
PRANA, lead by WC 4151, a former C&NW GP7, has run through a snow squall near Peshtigo, WI in February 1994. The former CGW bulkhead flat cars on the head end have been pressed into pulpwood service, and are headed north for another load.
Train PRANA (Proviso - Quinnesec) rolls downgrade in Quinnesec with SD40-2 6831 and GP50 5093 providing the power. Even though this train has a destination symbol of Antoine (Iron Mountain) it no longer goes that far as what little remaining local business there has dried up. Traffic for this train was provided by two paper mills, one just past the rear of the train and the other three miles south on the NIagara Subdivision which can be seen diverging off to the right.
Step two: After the WC local clears the diamond, Wisconsin Central GP9 4505 leads C&NW's PRANA across at Hermansville, MI in March 1994. The Minorca stands by.
Train PRANA backs around the wye at Powers to clear for ANPRA on January 28, 1995. 5090 and 4170 make for and interesting power combo. I never could get used to the CNW GP50's wandering around the lines north of Green Bay in the mid 90's as I always continued to think of them as "hot" power even after there Falcon days were long over.
Chicago and Northwestern SD40-2 6904 leads train PRANA around the south leg of the wye at Powers, Michigan, on September 1, 1995.
