World's Smallest Catholic Church - St. Martin's Catholic Church began in 1888 as a mission of St. John the Baptist Church of Fayetteville, eight miles to the west. By 1873, Warrenton had a post office, stores, a gin, and more than 100 people, most of them raising cotton, corn, and dairy products. Over the last century, the economy has gradually shifted to cattle, poultry, and the renowned antique fair along the highway between Warrenton and Round Top. According to the history of the church written by Norman C. Krischke of Schulenburg, the original St. Martin's Church in Warrenton was used for about 27 years for weddings, funerals, and an occasional mass. The oldest known grave in the one-acre cemetery next to the church is of Jan Blaha, who was born in Moravia in 1826 and died in Texas in 1889. As the roads improved and the small farms were consolidated, the population shifted to the cities. St. Martin's became less and less necessary. In 1915, the main church dismantled the Warrenton mission to build a school in Fayetteville. Using leftover lumber from the school project, parishioners built the 12-by-16-foot chapel where the original church once stood. Many of the fixtures from the original church were transferred to the Warrenton chapel, including the altar, the church bell, and many of the statues. A large oil painting of St. Martin, the patron saint of soldiers, looks down on the six rows of 12 wooden pews that will seat about 20 people. Descendants of the 62 or so people buried in the cemetery still maintain the grounds and the church. In order to keep its active status, a memorial service is held annually in the church on All Soul's Day, Nov. 11. The building is often open to visitors, with a registration book and a donation box near the double doors. This church, the historical St. Martins, is located between the towns of Round Top and Warrenton in central Texas. I am not certain how the church holds mass, but believe they do so regularly. There is more to the story of this tiny church! The painting reproduction hanging behind the altar, depicting St. Martin of Tours, takes the place of the original painting which hung there until 2002. In that year, the painting was rediscovered as the work of Johann Ignaz Berger, a prolific Czech ecclesiastical painter of the 19th century. The piece was one of a group of paintings brought by Czech immigrants in the late 1800's to hang in their new church in Fayetteville, St. John the Baptist. The paintings were stored and forgotten when the old church was torn down and rebuilt in the 1960's. All seven have been recovered, restored and re-framed and now hang once again in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. The original frames are displayed in the back room of the Fayetteville Area Museum, on the central town square, which is in itself worth a visit.

God's word says that if we don't praise Him, even the stones will cry out (Luke 19 v 40)

Well spotted - this is not a stone!! :-) But God is so worthy to be praised that His whole creation will shout it out - even this beautiful rose (taken from a bouquet I bought Mum - it really was for her.... honest) shows the incredible details that God put into every part of His creation.

I took this shot against a black reflector and used the flash, and it meant I had very little editing to do with the actual photograph, just crop a little and add the text :-)

Happy Monday folks :-)

This is my friend (Zanmi in Creole) Jonas. Playing guitar like a boss during Sunday morning worship. We had church every night while in Haiti, but something about this morning was special. It was a wonderful Caribbean worship vibe.

It's a moment by moment, day by day action; It's not usually easy. We just have to choose to Choose Faith... it's not a blind choice - it's obedience to His Word #loveGod #lovethatGodlovesme #loveGod'sWord #thankHim #praiseHim

Oh Praise Him

by David Crowder Band

Turn your ear

To Heaven and hear

The noise inside

The sound of angels awe

The sound of angels songs

And all this for a King

We could join and sing

'All to Christ our King!'

How constant

How divine

This love of ours will rise

Oh, how constant

How divine

This song of ours will rise

Will rise...

Ohh praise Him!

Ohh praise Him!

He is Holy!

He is Holy!

Turn your gaze

To Heaven and raise

A joyous noise

Oh the sound of salvation come

The sound of rescued ones

And all this for a king

Angels join to sing

'All for Christ our King!'

How infinite and sweet

This love so rescuing

Oh how infinitely sweet

This great love that has redeemed

As one, we sing...

This is the Diocese of British Columbia’s third Cathedral Church. The first, built in 1856, was destroyed by fire; the second, built in 1872, became inadequate for the size of the congregation. Both were situated across the street from the present structure on the site now occupied by the Law Courts.

It is built in the Gothic style of the thirteenth century to the design of J.C.M. Keith, who won an international competition in 1896 to obtain this commission. Only the Nave was initially completed, and this portion of the building was consecrated on September 29, 1929. Further building was delayed by the Depression of the thirties, and then by the Second World War. The western towers were completed in the 1950s and the reconstruction of the East End, completed and consecrated November 1st 1991, renders the Cathedral one of Canada’s largest churches, with interior dimensions of 93 X 140 feet, and towers rising 122 feet above street level.

In 1511 Malacca was conquered by the Portuguese. Because of its desirable location and despite constant fighting with surrounding kingdoms, the Dutch took it over in 1641.

The British, for trade and political reasons, moved into the area and took control of Penang [1786], Singapore [1819] and Malacca [1824].

Francis Xavier set foot in Malaya in 1545 and in 1814 Robert Morrison began work in Malacca, where his Chinese translation of the New Testament was later printed.

Robert Morrison: Pioneer of Pioneers:

Two hundred years ago, in September 1807, 25 year old Robert Morrison (1782-1834) spent 9 months on a ship. The ship was no ordinary one. It was a ship that had left London and New York to dock in Canton, dropping off a young man whose mind had been consumed with thoughts of 350 million souls. For years, he had been living with the burden that he could now feel underneath his feet, and see with aching eyes: the vast land of China.

Born into a Christian family in England during the Great Evangelical Awakening, as a young man Morrison had fallen away from the Lord and into bad company. Years later, convicted with a deep sense of sin, he undertook missionary training for 30 months. During this time he came across a tract titled, β€œon the Importance of Translating and Publishing the Holy Scriptures into the Chinese Language”.

Its ideas grew into a passion – he would not be dissuaded from heading to China. The East India Company denied him passage, but Morrison refused to be deterred. His words to a friend hung in his mind, β€œif we go we must have the sentence of death in ourselves, not to trust in ourselves but in the living God.”

A shipping agent, astounded at his audacity, asked, β€œDo you really expect you can make an impression on the great Chinese empire?”

β€œNo Sir, I expect God will,” Morrison replied.

Amazing. Malacca, being a key centre for the spread of Islam into SOuth East Asia in the 1500s, became, the launchpad for the printing of the Lords word into mainland China.

"Praise Him..."

"Let everything that has breath Praise the Lord!" PSALM 150

1 Praise the Lord.

Praise God in His sanctuary;

praise Him in His mighty heavens.

2 Praise Him for His acts of power;

praise Him for His surpassing greatness.

3 Praise Him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise Him with the harp and lyre,

4 Praise Him with timbrel and dancing, Praise Him with the strings and pipe,

5 Praise Him with the clash of cymbals, Praise Him with resounding cymbals.

6 Let everything that has breath Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.

~ Psalm 150

~~~~~~~
Psalm 30:2, 4-6, 11-13
R. I will Praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me…
I will extol you, O Lord, for you drew me clear and did not let my enemies rejoice over me.
O Lord, you brought me up from the netherworld; you preserved me from among those going down into the pit. R.
Sing praise to the Lord, you His faithful ones, and give thanks to His holy name.
For His anger lasts but a moment; a lifetime, His good will.
At nightfall, weeping enters in, but with the dawn, rejoicing. R.
Hear, O Lord, and have pity on me; O Lord, be my helper.
You changed my mourning into dancing; O Lord, my God, forever will I give you thanks. R.
Let's shine bright like the moonlight.
Let's dance and twirl like the stars at night.
We'll hold hands and shine bright like the sun light.
So come on, get up,
We'll dance and twirl,
Sing and cheer.
We can touch the sky,
just reach up high.
We aren't the divine,
but we are thine'o Lord.
We shine bright,
and you are the light.
You hold our hands at night.
You are the light,
that shines, oh, so bright
in the night.
So lets sing,
lets dance.
We'll show the glory of Gods, ever shining light.
-Moonlight By Emily J
This is the first poem I have written in sometime. I used to write almost everyday, but as I work full time and then do school as well, that does not happen anymore. This is also a lot different then the stuff I used to write.
Do you ever notice how even behind the clouds the moon shines, or the sun does. Or how the sun and moon support each other? I do, and I love the moon, but I am kinda a night person in general.
God created the sun and the moon like that for a reason, just like He created us to have some kind of dependency on Him and others.
While not everyone believes in Christ they know that He exists, because we are born with the knowledge of right and wrong, therefore we are born with Him.
It's like the sun and moon being behind clouds, while we can not see it, we know that it is there. While you may not believe in Christ, you know that things are right and wrong.
God wants us to know he is always there no matter what, no matter the coast. He want's us to be His child. To worship and glorify Him. To sing and dance. To show our love to Him.
Psalm 149: 3 Says "Let them praise His name with the dance; Let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp."
There are so many ways to show our praise to Him, and singing and playing is one of them. I love to sing, but I can't play any instruments, unless you count a voice an instrument. But I say if you want to show you love and praise to Christ, sing. He doesn't care if you don't think you sound good or if you can sing like a professional or can't. He is going to love the praise and that you are singing to and for His glory. Go for it! Sing out loud!
P.S. This is called Fairies in a Jar.
Direcstions are:
1. Buy or grab a mason jar. (Really any jar with a lid will work)
2. Buy glow sticks.
3. Cut glow sticks in to jar after breaking them. Be careful with this part, they stick and go everywhere.
4. Add some beads or some kind of fun crystals into it.
5. Lid it and shake, have some fun in the dark with fairies.
This was perfect to do with my 6yr old baby brother.
This is the first decent photo of the moon that I've ever been able to take. I've been trying for years and I believe that the extra zoom I now have in my 18-300mm Nikkor lens makes a world of difference.
As a part of trying to photograph the moon, I've always thought about the verse and wanted to use it with the picture (if I ever got one)! Regardless if we, people who were made to praise God, do or not...the sun and the moon and the stars will 'Praise Him'!
Psalm 148:3 says: "Praise Him, sun and moon, praise Him, all you shining stars!"
Technical Information:
This is somewhere in Oxford.
The University of Oxford is first mentioned in 12th century records. As the University took shape, friction between the hundreds of students living where and how they pleased led to a decree that all undergraduates would have to reside in approved halls.
These colleges were established at a time when Europeans were starting to translate the writings of Greek philosophers. These writings challenged European ideology – inspiring scientific discoveries and advancements in the arts – as society began to see itself in a new way. These colleges at Oxford were supported by the Church in the hope of reconciling Greek Philosophy and Christian Theology. The relationship between "town and gown" has often been uneasy β€” as many as 93 students and townspeople were killed in the St Scholastica Day Riot of 1355.
The sweating sickness epidemic in 1517 was particularly devastating to Oxford and Cambridge where it killed half of both cities' populations, including many students and dons.
Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford is unique in combining a college chapel and a cathedral in one foundation. Originally the Priory Church of St Frideswide, the building was extended and incorporated into the structure of the Cardinal's College shortly before its refounding as Christ Church in 1546, since when it has functioned as the cathedral of the Diocese of Oxford.
