A quiet architectural study of light and geometry — captured at the first Audi charging hub worldwide.
Designed by the Munich-based studio Designliga, the modular structure combines function, sustainability, and visual precision.
Opened to the public in December 2021, amid the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, the project initially drew little public attention — its quiet launch reflecting the stillness of that time.
Built from flexible “PowerCubes”, it integrates second-life batteries from former Audi test vehicles to ensure a constant, grid-friendly charging output even from a low-voltage connection.
The concept redefines what an urban charging station can be: modular, sustainable, and welcoming — crowned with a premium lounge above the chargers.
This pioneering design received the Red Dot Design Award in the field of brand and architectural design — one of the world’s most respected honors, recognizing its fusion of architecture, technology, and user experience.
Rendered in the Leica Look “Brass”, which lends the night a gentle golden tone and a quiet, timeless depth.

Bernie Leighton (@powercube) and I really do need your help on this! We have already had one very successful phone interview with a very well known and respected expert on the subject of black military projects, but we need more to make this happen! Between the two of us, we have the means to make this work, but in order for us to reach the full potential of this project, we need help! The funds raised from this kickstarter will go towards ensuring that we can maximize the most of our time on the road. Gas is not cheap! we are planning a 4,000 mile trip, but with help, we can also make other side trips to reach people who have expressed interest in talking with us, but are out of our current route. It will also enable us to visit and document more crash sites in the areas around Edwards AFB and talk with the people who actually wrote the history books! Any bit helps!
