This old steam locomotive was placed there as memorial to the time when the Xuhui riverside promenade and park (徐汇滨江公园) used to be a busy warehousing and cargo area.

The locomotive was made in 1987 by the Datong Locomotive Works (大同机车工厂). It is a 2-8-2 "JS" (建设, Jianshe = Construction), in the revised "B" specification, build no. 8145.

Of the "JS" in total 1,916 units were made in two production runs (not only at Datong), from 1957-1965 and again 1981 until the final end of production in 1988/9.

These houses on the island of Bequia are built with the environment in mind. They are built around the land and local

stone is used. Solar is mostly used for power and rain water is collected in cisterns.
