Combining art and algorithms, Potion's Community Displays give RISD's artists a visual and unfiltered platform to express themselves. At the bequest of RISD President John Maeda, Potion worked to create an electronic system whose organic, uncensored structure distinguishes it as a medium for the entire community.
Potion's custom application mimics a bulletin board with only one rule: anyone from the community can post anything as long as their name is attached to it. Featured in prominent locations around campus, the screens refresh with a new batch of submissions twice an hour, arranging content based on Potion's custom algorithm so that the layout is always unique and surprising. The application gives each submission its well-deserved moment in the sun by zooming into each artwork as Potion's program moves from piece to piece.
In an ongoing testament to the success of the Community Displays, RISD students, faculty and staff continue to submit hundreds of images to the system each passing week. The displays serve not only as a reflection of the present community but also as an archive of the community’s evolving digital conversation.

A friend texted me this quote as she got out of her Buddhist community meeting. Although I am a Christian myself, this quote applies to all of me. Faith has been my biggest reliance over the course of these few months, especially towards God. I've never felt the desire to be with God so much ever in my life until now. And friends-- I didn't realize that I've put so much faith in my closest ones until today and I thank them and thank God for giving me such wonderful confidants. And family too. Although we're all separated in different continents right now, I suddenly feel really close to them. Jie, Mom, and Dad: I miss you all dearly.
A few weeks ago, I asked my friends what I would be if they were to pick an animal for me and they said-- a sheep, as resembled by my softness and vulnerability. The more I think about it now, the more I feel sorry for them. I've always been the most worrisome one among us. They've tolerated me in so many ways that I simply took for granted and overlooked their efforts and advice because i've been too bogged down in my own affairs and myself. I've been too sheltered under the protection of many that I've neglected my mindfulness to dangerous people around me.
After this past weekend of resolved drama, i'm proud to say that i've absorbed my friends' advice on my flaws. I'm finally grasping the importance of observing and caring for ones around me. I need to think outside the box and stop dwelling in my past regrets. I should focus and improve on what I have now and not what I don't have. And I have yet to discover ways to exponentially be more intellectual, not only in terms of books, but in people. I need to prioritize, plan ahead, and look forward to each new day. Learn to love myself a little more and appreciate all that I have.
By the way, how bipolar do I now sound from my last post. Haha. I guess i'm just waking up to all this drama that just happened this weekend.
