Inauguré pour l'Exposition universelle de Paris en 1900, le pont était destiné à symboliser l'amitié franco-russe, instaurée par la signature de l'alliance conclue en 1891 entre l’empereur Alexandre III (1845-1894) et le président de la République française Sadi Carnot. La première pierre fut posée par le tsar Nicolas II de Russie, l'impératrice Alexandra Fedorovna et le président Félix Faure le 7 octobre 1896. La construction de cet ouvrage d'art fut confiée aux ingénieurs Jean Résal et Amédée Alby, ainsi qu'aux architectes Cassien-Bernard et Gaston Cousin.
Construit dans l'axe de l'esplanade des Invalides, il conduit de celle-ci aux Petit et Grand Palais également construits pour l'exposition universelle.
Sur la colonne, rive droite en aval, fut gravée cette inscription : « Le 14 avril 1900, Émile Loubet président de la République Française a ouvert l'exposition universelle et inauguré le pont Alexandre III
Le pont Alexandre-III est un pont franchissant la Seine entre le 7e et le 8e arrondissement de Paris.
C'est un pont métallique de 40 mètres de large composé d'une seule arche de 107 mètres comprenant trois points d'articulation, permettant de franchir la Seine sans point d'appui intermédiaire. Deux tunnels en pierre se situent à ses extrémités.
Le pont a plusieurs fois changé de couleurs ; il est passé du gris au vert-brun puis au gris perle. Il a repris ses couleurs d'origine lors de son unique restauration en 19985.
Ses contreforts côté rive droite abritent depuis septembre 2006 une boîte de nuit appelée le Showcase, aménagée dans un hangar à bateau désaffecté. Ce lieu, ouvert au grand public à la mi-décembre 2006, peut être utilisé comme salle de concert ; des émissions de télévision y sont depuis enregistrées.
Ms Polly needs a good spa day. a re-root is in order and she has already been re-strung with flat elastic. I shall have to work up the courage to re-do that at some point in the future.

Qutb Minar, sometimes spelled Qutub or Qutab, was started in 1192 by Qutb-ud-din Aibak, the first Sultan of Delhi and ruler of North India from 1206 to 1210 AD.
On one of my visits, an Indian woman was sitting outside Iltutmish’s Tomb taking visitors’ pictures with their own cameras. She was equally happy to have her picture taken – for a tip!

This little raptor posed very nicely for me, but I'm still kicking myself for missing the flight shot. I was parked in the middle of the main road through Cherry Creek State Park, so I was concerned about traffic and took my eye away from the viewfinder to look in the rear view mirror to see if cars were approaching. When I looked back in the viewfinder, it was flying straight at me. I was too late to grab focus on what would have been a great flight shot. Oh well...
When some of my fellow flickr friends shoot .. I love getting shots from the sidelines lol or a "paparazzi shot" as my friend Junique calls it! lol
