This shot was taken on my last morning in Katmai. I had hurt my knee the night before and wasn't able to walk all the way to the falls one last time. I stuck around the mouth of the river, as there was a layer of marine fog about 200 feet off the ground that was providing some very soft diffuse light. The lake was also as calm as I had seen it during my trip, and it provided a beautiful background for this young sub-adult brown bear.

Relaxing at the Upshur public swimming pool at 4300 Arkansas Avenue NW, in Washington, DC. While Mrs. T swam, I sat on a chaise lounge in a shady spot and enjoyed the poolside atmosphere. I stayed by the deep end, which is where the adults hung out, while the kids generally congregated at the shallow side of the pool. It was peaceful, relaxing, and the smells of someone's nearby backyard BBQ gave a suburban feel to the outing.
