Ponytail Falls as seen from the west side. You can see more of the 88 foot drop from this vantage point. You can also see the burnt trunks of trees from the 2017 wildfire that burned 49,000 acres of forest in this area. The east side can be viewed in the next image.

Ponytail Falls is one of many waterfalls located along the super popular Horsetail Falls Trail/Oneonta Trail in the Columbia River Gorge, Oregon. These were taken first thing in the morning after a week of rain.
A short steep hike takes you to Ponytail Falls. With a drop of 88 feet, this is a fun falls because you can walk behind it.
Trailing behind her family, a child enjoys a sunset stroll across a footbridge spanning the Union Pacific Railroad tracks in Wheaton. The bridge, which once carried electric trains of the Chicago, Aurora and Elgin Railway, is now part of the Illinois Prairie Path trail network.

Here's another shot from the archives, in a place I'd normally be headed back to right now to hike and shoot – the Columbia River Gorge. It's where I grew up, and the place I'll always call my home.
I'm sharing this one still in the ProPhoto RGB color space. Converting to sRGB for the web washes out the greens too much – it simply can't reproduce that verdant Gorge hue. Most devices should now be able to handle it.

You can't see all of the 88 foot drop of Ponytail Falls from this perspective. But it is fun to walk behind this waterfall as it thunders over a basalt cliff. This is the east side, so the next image for the west view.

This area just opened a few weeks back. It had been closed for a year and a half because of a forest fire. I'm glad this are did not have much damage, and still has some autumn colors.
Took this when out hiking on a couple touristy trails with my folks. Walked a mile but consumed 3 times the calories after; Pok Pok, Salt and Straw, Stumptown, Nong's Khao Man Gai, Kukai.
I visited this beauty for the first time this year.
Since these waterfalls (Horsetail and Ponytail) are in the last section of the Columbia River Gorge waterfall corridor, I always left this hike for the end, and because of that, I've never had the chance to see it. But not this time!

Upper Horsetail Falls, a.k.a. Ponytail Falls, in northern Oregon's Columbia River Gorge. Still lush and green in the midst of a very dry year.

Looking down on Ponytail Falls (also known as Upper Horsetail Falls), one of dozens of such beautiful waterfalls in the rain forest that covers both sides of the Columbia River Gorge. Note the hikers for perspective: yes, the trail goes behind the waterfall. One of my favorite spots in the Gorge.
Hey it's Wednesday, so here's a waterfall picture! That's what you're supposed to do right? Anyways, waterfalls are cool and fun to photograph, but it can be difficult to find unique and interesting ways to create images of them, especially for popular and heavily photographed ones. Here's my attempt at one of the most well known falls in the Columbia River Gorge. Hope you enjoy and happy Wednesday!

Captured this with three RAW shots at -2..0..+2 EV. Digital blending in Photoshop CS6. I increased the overall saturation with Hue/Saturation in Photoshop. Curve adjustment to increase the overall contrast. 1 layer mask in soft light mode at 50% gray, using brush tool to lighten and darken some areas of the image, to bring out details. Topaz DeNoise to reduce noise. Topaz Clarity for boost in color and contrast.

Out of all the bands I met this weekend, Ponytail was absolutely the nicest! I ran into Molly Siegel and Dustin Wong as I was leaving the media tent randomly and told them how much their live set impressed me. Molly acted so sweet and modest about it, as if she didn't realize how great of a live band they are. Then, I complimented Dustin Wong on his super amazing hair and he said he cuts it himself.

When a young woman with a ponytai heard my word, "You have a pretty hairstyle," she immediately turns her hard to her right and then looks directly at me with wide, smiling eyes.
This happens just after she made her purchase order to a seller of convenience store at a village in Subic, Zambales, Philippines.
Perhaps my favorite falls in the Columbia River Gorge, or at least in the top two along with Wahclella Falls. I am really a sucker for any waterfall you can hike behind. It is also just far enough up the trail that it avoids the crowds of the more easily reached falls. This was about a two minute exposure with my pinhole camera.
