Good to see in what looks like completely standard condition. Was doing a fairly modest 1,000 miles or so each year, then looks to have gone out of use from 2018/19 until 2023. Looks to see more use now with over 4,000 miles between its 2023 and 2024 MoTs.

One of the fellows at work discovered a Polo Club up the road from our plant. They play a few nights during the week. A group of four of us went over to take photos.
I actually used a tripod again. It helped my photos.
Although, I still felt kind of goofy with my little Lumix beside the big Canon lenses.
As a photojournalist, Sam Hood provided photos for newspapers including the Sydney Mail, Australasian, Daily Guardian, Sun and Sydney Morning Herald. He covered many of Australia’s landmark events, but on this occasion Hood captured a more personal moment. While covering a polo match, he photographed a man — perhaps a fellow journalist — asleep at the wheel of a car. Hood’s composition leaves the match in the background hanging like a ‘dream bubble’ over his head. PXE 789 (v.50) collection.sl.nsw.gov.au/record/nQRq2gd1/PaDqvXpLqwgL2

Me, Bob, Paige and Libby went to check out Polo on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Skaneateles. Learned a lot of new terms, including chukka and we were able to get out on the field and help stamp out the divots!

Polo is the male Palm-nut Vulture at the Hawk Conservancy. Difficult shooting through the wire and I'm not keen on the shadows from the wire of the aviary on Polo but I haven't seen this species before so wanted to upload it.
The Hawk Conservancy are hoping that Polo will mate with Athena, the female that shares the aviary. More on that below.
Athena and Polo are a secretive and rather shy pair and we are hopeful that they may one day breed. Last year, Polo (the male) showed some courtship behaviour, bowing and calling to Athena with a flushed face, which indicates that he is interested in getting to know her better. For the most part, she ignored him but did spend time in the nest she constructed under the lovely nest ledge that we built them.
Not ones to give up, we undertook further research into what else we could do to encourage them. We spoke to other collections about diet, nesting sites and nest material, and ended up re-designing their aviary. This included adding more perching to help them feel more secure, as well as adding a roof over the nest area as wild Palm-nut Vultures usually nest in the middle of trees rather than on the tops. Since moving back in, we’ve noticed they are a lot more confident and we’ve witnessed positive breeding behaviour. It’s unlikely that they’ll breed this year but we are hopeful for future attempts from them.
Palm-nut Vultures are unusual for birds of prey in that their diet includes plant matter. They eat a wide variety of things including palm nuts, wild dates, insects, carrion and fish. We try to replicate this variety in what we feed Athena and Polo, including supplying them with a large amount of palm nuts. On the advice of the other collections we consulted with, we are going to see if they might like some other food stuffs as well, such as dates and avocado.

Palm-nut vultures breed in forest and savannah across sub-Saharan Africa, usually near water, its range coinciding with that of the oil and Raffia palms. It is quite approachable, like many African vultures, and can be seen near habitation, even on large hotel lawns in the tourist areas of countries such as the Gambia.
It is an Old World Vulture and is the only member of the genus Gypohierax.
