Bees do have a smell, you know, and if they don't they should, for their feet are dusted with spices from a million flowers.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The willow catkins of the native wood willow (Salix caprea) appear on the still bare branches. The soft catkins are silvery white to pale yellow in color. Flowering is the first of the willows, in early spring. For that reason it is a popular shrub with insects that come to the nectar and pollen.

The Catkins are also wind pollinators and therefore there are small numbers of people who are sensitive to the pollen that can become airborne in early spring March-April.

Watching this bee dive into a squash blossom led me to discover this information...."Pollen is used to feed baby bees. It is the only protein source for the honey bee colony. Pollen is vital for the health and productivity of a honey bee colony. Without this protein source, no young bees could be raised. And it is important to have a variety of pollen sources for the young bees. "
