Several generations old. HWW Co.
Made in Waltham Mass. 17 jewels.
The exif data has a wrong aperture; it should read f/5.6. The 58mm ought to read 60mm. I will try to fix...
Reminder: In January 2022 I asked for help, and a Flickr support hero removed both of my accounts from the Explore algorithm. I feel more relaxed ;-)

There are so many facets to White Pocket. This is another composition from a recent trip. I tried to use the lines in the rocks to pull you into the image.
These are some of the namesake white sandstone formations of White Pocket, in the Vermillion Cliffs National Monument, northern Arizona
Walking through the narrow alleys of Plaka , we often see open doors leading to small courtyards. As in all the Greek islands, villages are built with the well-known defense architecture, so everything is small, but organized with the wisdom of long-term practice and experience. Since I no longer wear three piece suits, this timepiece has not seen much use. Just pulling it out of the drawer gives me a smile in remembrance of earlier times.
The landscape in White Pocket NM is surreal. This area is part of the Vermillion Cliffs National Monument. I don't mean to over-use a cliche description, but it truly is like another planet. There are so many oddly shaped rock formations that it can be hard to choose what to shoot.
In this composition I elected to put a human into the frame to provide a sense of scale and drama. In my opinion this seems to portray a feeling of loneliness. Man vrs nature is one thing, but man vrs this odd environment makes it feel that much more alone.
Expect more images form this unique place for sure.
We're don't know which side of our families of origin took such loving care of this pocket watch through the years. The inscribed date on the inner cover reads April 1920.
I experimented with apertures, extension tubes, and focal points, and had a fine time while it rained. I had intended to add it to Macro Mondays last Monday until I noticed that I had entered an older macro two years ago.
Thanks for looking, and for your faves ;)

I keep a daily journal and always carry a small pocket journal to write my reminders for my journal kept at home.

Some call White Pocket in Arizona (almost Utah) a consolation prize to those who don't get lottery-picked for the Wave in Vermillion Cliffs. I do not agree. White pocket is an amazing place with so many fascinating rock formations that one could spend days shooting this location. The deep-sand road used to get there only helps keep the secret from those who don't know about this treasure. We spent hours there shooting several different formations, and we wish we could have stayed for days.
What? What's that you ask? Did I not get a lottery pick for the Wave? Well...I hardly think that's relevant, I will have you know that..Ok, no, I did not get a ticket- Ok! I did not want to see that stupid old Wave formation anyway, you can keep your stupid Wave- jerk!

There are incredible metal shots in the stream today. Thank you, everyone, who has posted for my suggested theme. HMM!

Here is another sunrise shot from my White Pocket trip.
There are so many great photo spots at this site! It belongs to the bucket list of any landscape photographer...

I moved overseas a couple of times with work - sometimes you strike lucky, and sometimes you strike very lucky.
We managed to bag the rental of this just-refurbished 100 year old apartment in the Champel district of Geneva which came with original parquet floors, French-style doors, and what I seem to remember as a 12 foot curtain drop. The lift too was in the old open French style. We were lucky because plenty of Swiss were hankering after it, but the owner clearly decided the company I worked for had deeper pockets and would be a better credit risk.
This was taken in 2005 - not too long before we would up sticks again and move to the US Deep South. So out went the smart suits and ties, and in came the short sleeves and khaki slacks - much more my style.
Inevitably you adapt your lifestyle to a new environment and I did miss a lot of things about Switzerland, yet oddly the most enduring one was my daily commute on the number 3 trolley bus.
All credit to Mrs H for dressing the room.
Sorry, no trains in this one.

White Pocket is NOT an easy place to get to. You have to WANT to go here. The drive is long and challenging, and then there is a small bit of a hike. Bring water.
But once there, the surroundings are incredible! One could easily spend the entire day here, exploring, climbing, and taking in the dynamic landscapes. As the light changes, so does EVERYTHING! Grey whites, sage green, honey golds, tangerine oranges, dry dirt brown, and Arizona reds-- the color palette is stunning. Definitely worth all the trouble getting here :).

It was a blowout Spring for Zebra swallowtails - mainly because we found several pawpaw patches (their host trees) at a WMA we visited for the first time. These two were part of a group puddling with Juvenal's duskywings at Pigeon Mountain GA on the last day of March. No saturation - that's how their coloration pops. One of my favorite butterflies & a tough one to get - we have 3 fruiting pawpaw trees and not a single Zebra - ditto at the wetlands pawpaw patches. @ the Pocket / Pigeon Mtn WMA in NW Georgia

Another sunset shot from my colorful visit to White Pocket.
I think the pale white brain rock nicely contrasts the color explosion in the sky. Unfortunately the pool was too soggy to really reflect the colorful sky...

Lankin Dome (7684’ rises above the floor of Nolen Pocket in the Granite Mountains of Wyoming. An adjacent granite dome, Moonstone is visible over the ridge on the left side of the photo. The peaks are located in the Sweewater Rocks near Jeffery City, Wyoming. Geologically, these granite knobs are located in the Archean-age Sweetwater subprovince of the Wyoming Craton. These rocks represent a time when Wyoming was a separate microcontinent called the Wyoming Craton which existed 500 million years before the North American Continent formed. The Sweetwater subprovince has an east-west tectonic grain which is caused by a shear zone between the Sweetwater and Southern Accredited Terrane subprovinces along the southern edge of the Wyoming microcontinent.
Who needs The Wave when you can have a sunset here and not worry about permits?
Buried deep in the wilderness of Arizona and down wild dirt roads that require a 4×4, White Pocket is a surreal and ethereal wonderland of carved and sculptural sandstone, stretching and undulating almost as far as the eye can see. It’s impossible to go to this amazing place and not be spellbound and to not let your imagination wander and try and make sense of the exquisite colors and textures at your feet. Places like this are a gift and a challenge. This is what is so vital and what needs to be protected at all costs.
Thank you so much for the visits, favs and comments :)
