Le kyūdō est un art martial pratiqué avec un arc mais, à la différence d’autres types d’archerie, le véritable objectif est plus que la simple cible. Centré sur la maîtrise d’une posture et d’un état d’esprit adéquats, en pleine conscience de soi, l’esprit du kyūdō tient dans le terme mushin, une conscience libérée de toute pensée parasite. Dans les compétitions de kyūdō, on gagne des points en atteignant la cible, mais les arbitres jugent avant tout la posture et la sérénité d’esprit. Le kyūdō est l’art martial japonais le plus souvent comparé au zen.
Kyūdō is a martial art practiced with a bow but, unlike other types of archery, the real objective is more than just the target. Centered on the mastery of an adequate posture and state of mind, in full self-awareness, the spirit of kyūdō holds in the term mushin, a consciousness freed from all parasitic thought. In kyūdō competitions, you earn points by hitting the target, but the referees judge above all posture and serenity of mind. Kyūdō is the Japanese martial art most often compared to Zen.

I can assure you that there is a moment when you realize, clearly, by investigation, that you are going in circles. This moment can be seen, at first, as hopeless. But, in fact, this is your big chance to give up, to stop this effort. This effort is this illusion trying to get rid of the illusion, it is the "I" trying to get rid of the "I", it is the mind trying to get rid of the mind. At this moment, the surrender, the renunciation happens .
