La lumière, particulièrement rasante en fin de journée, allonge démesurément les ombres et souligne les crêtes boisées ; dans quelques minutes, ces bois qui se chauffent encore au soleil seront plongés dans l'ombre de Petite Céüse, et s'effaceront tristement dans le paysage...
The extraordinary location of Plateau Hut which sits opposite Mt Cook in New Zealand.

Le Plateau de Bénou (860m) sur la route du Col de Marie-Blanque offre un superbe panorama sur le fond de la vallée en forme de U, témoin de l'érosion causée par le passage du glacier d'Ossau et sur les massifs alentours. Chapelle du Houndas C'est un lieu pastoral avec de nombreuses granges et troupeaux au printemps et à l'automne.
Départ de nombreuses randonnées sur les différents plateaux : Houndas, Roland et Técouère et cercles de pierre (chromlechs).
Tara Salt Flat is located at an altitude of 4 300 m within Los Flamencos National Reserve, near the border point where Chile, Bolivia, and Argentina meet. Tara is set on the crater of Vilama Volcano and it has a rich ecosystem that houses several flora and fauna species.
We've finally done the climb and reached the moonlike barren plateau of Beinn Mheadhoin. The impressive granite tors in the distance are our destination and mark the true summit, only another 0.5 miles to go across the plateau. For scale, people are stood on the summit tor.
Beinn Mheadhoin (pronounced Bane Vee-arrn) meaning 'The Middle Hill' stands at 1182 meters (3878 feet) and is my 14th Munro. The summit plateau is strewn with some spectacular granite rocky tors and lies at the remote heart of the Cairngorms. The cycle in up Glen Derry was 6.7 miles, with a further 3.7 hike to reach the summit. With the return, the days sees me covering 21 miles Bike & Hike.
Shot above the Jakobskogel, the view towards the Heukuppe summit at 2007 m. If you look closely, you can see the alpine refuge huts strewn around the enormous plateau.
The Beartooth Plateau rises above the Clarks Fork Valley along The Chief Joseph Highway (WY 296) northwest of Cody Wyoming. This photo was taken just after a short snow squall moved across the peaks. The photo shows U-shaped, glacially-carved valleys in the Canyon Creek drainage on the west side of the plateau.
Geologically, the core of the Beartooth Plateau is composed of a igneous-metamorphic rock complex of Archean age which has been dated radiometrically at around than 2.6 billion years old. These rocks represent a time when Wyoming was a separate microcontinent called the Wyoming Craton which existed 500 million years before the North American Continent formed.

After overcoming a 350 meters difference, we arrive at this rock fields which occur mainly at altitudes above 900 meters. Here the average altitude on the plateau is 1,300 meters.
Acid, rocky and shallow soils define the local vegetation.

In the background the foothills of the French Alps. In the middle Le Grand Marges (1576 m) with an incredible view across the Gorges du Verdon. I can really advise making an hike up there from the little village Aiguines. Left the Cime de Barbin (1561 m) and the Crête de l'Ourbes.

Konya is an economically and industrially developed city and the capital of Konya Province.
This Ewe and her lamb were on another plateau adjacent to where I was at. It just amazes me how these sheep get up there and especially the little lamb.

Big panoramas aren't my normal thing but I decided to give this one a go on the Pentax. Six horizontal frames stitched in Lightroom. The detail on the original merged image is astounding from this camera not that Flickr will let you view it at that magnification!
Taken along the Desert Road SH1 just a few km's north of Waiouru. The view incorporates Mounts Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe (both active volcanoes) with some of the central plateau with its power pylons and sheep grazing below!
