One day, a long time ago, the parasitic plant that called itself Doc Boots found itself rather curious about agriculture. normally, he would just ask and convince the plants to do as he desired while giving them the magical energy needed to produce the resulted desired. With a plentiful bonus piece of energy. It was only fair, to the flower fae, to gift the Earth, the Tree of Life's roots nestled through out the soil, and Nature as the tree's children, for him to gift a larger quantity. In good faith. The Fae kind were very focused on equal trade, but Doc paid in good faith. A bonus in the hopes the positive energy would pay it forward.
This was probably where Doc went astray when it came to his experiment in understanding the 'meat-body' method of cultivating a field. After a bit of study, Doc found that the process was actually quite fun! Yet it was due to this excitement he unknowingly pumping more magical energy into the air, until the farm itself could be classified as a magical grove.
The vegetables grew and grew plentiful, and Doc had the added pride of being a plant himself and watching the, supposed, natural growing cycle. Doc's suspicion arose when the gourds of the pumpkins began to, it appeared, grow with two sunken spirals and a slit, creating the illusion of a face. As the other vegetables he had planted began to develop, he found a similar issue with them! He just figured, maybe, this was normal.
He figured out it was not when the vegetables began singing in the dead of the night. Especially once they grew little limbs and ripped themselves from their vines. The sight would surely frighten a meat body, but Doc was delighted. The experiment went terribly in terms of expected results, but Doc found himself with a series of swings and swaying vegetables! Along with one weirdly human shaped tree and some deformed flowers who seemed to have slipped into the group.
Doc didn't mind either way, but in his excitement he realize he had produced a larger crop than expected. Uncertain how to accommodate them, he picked a pumpkin that seemed particularly fond in staying close to his leg while equal parts disinterested and fearful of conflict. Nurturing this instinct in it, Doc performed a ritual to create a small rudimentary dimension within the pumpkin. The space was made to the group's liking, fart as he could gather. Going in and out through the pumpkin's mouth, the mass group of them stay and tend to the tiny world Doc had given them.
In exchange, the group had taken to observing and following Doc. To the point one, a particularly clever potato, had figured out how to transcribe all he has seen. The vegetable is still simple-minded, so it has the issue of being unable to understand what it wrote. Confusingly, the potato seems to be able to get its point across to the Broccoli, who reads the potato's findings to the rest of the cult in their sing-song language. To the point they have attempted replicating Doc's magic rituals and exercises.
Unsurprisingly, Doc grew immensely fond of the creatures. He has since dubbed them the Veggie cult, having them follow him around like minions. He does most tasks himself, or gets others to help, as he fears for the moment the Veggie Cult are too weak and gentle to be able to defend themselves. Due to this, should the cult become endangered the freaky flower will rush to their aid with the urgency of a mother bear.

To begin, I asked what he was. The body seemed alive and fresh enough, yet the flower sprouted from an empty socket. Furthermore, a keen eye would notice that there was movement just beneath the being’s skin. I had my suspicions, those that I could thankfully pester my new boss about in my little interview. I’ll place these in his words. I have attempted to replicate his accent through the text, purely since it seems to somehow make what he is saying make a bit more sense. In an atmospherical manner, I suppose.
He also forced me to. The other option was a couple trips through, what he called, the pumpkin portal system while gesturing to an oddly adorable sentient pumpkin. Curious as I might be, given the cute little thing was swaying and bobbing with a dopey grin on its gourd. I wished to question it, but potential immortality meant plenty of time for investigation.
“Well, de body is in fact alive like ya guessed. Though it would be more truthful ta say I am dat flower ya noted, not de body itself. Dat is more... A vehicle. I could be considered a parasite, I suppose. I often get compared ta dat Cordyceps virus, but I ain’ no fungus, fuckers are as much a problem ta me, if not more. Seem ta wanna jump on dis good thing I got 'ere.” Doc waved this thought off before continuing, stuffing his pipe with a mixture of… Well I could smell the pot rather well. Oddly enough, I seemed capable of smelling all of the items rather well.
As I sniffed at the air and stared, Doc simply smile and watched. He seemed to be waited for something. Something I gathered as he waved the scent towards me with a flick of his hand.
“Marijuana, Opium, and… Cactus?” I asked as I was rather unfamiliar with a good portion of the scents, but a number stood out to me. I don’t quite remember being this good at scent identification. A jittery laugh came from the entity, assumedly at my confusion.
“Pot, Poppies, ‘n Peyote. Mostly, yes.” Doc’d say as he wiggled his fingers beside his head. “Good on calmin’ de meat boy mind I got ‘ere. I tried de whole ‘sharin’ is carin’ thing wit’ my first sapient host. Just… Er.. didn’ work out.”
I did my best to hide my mild boost in anxiety, as well hold back my dam of questions. “So… Going by that spiel, you have had a number of hosts?” Doc would nod. “And... Sharing... So this... Body you are taking is…”
As I fumbled with my words, Doc curtly interjected with a gentle smile. The creature was trying to be reassuring. “Not quite dere anymore. Ya remember dat lobotomy thing dat was a trend for a bit?" The creature was not reassuring me. "Well, it is like dat. Only I got my vines in dere! Well... See, here is where we get ta de meat’a it.” I sighed a little as the plant giggled to himself. This was clearly a pun. That was the giggle of a pun. I was mentally preparing myself for what he could possibly be segwaying towards with such a pun.
