(278/365) Autumn colours starting to show in the trees at Newmarket's recently revamped Pitch & Putt course. I don't play golf but am going to try & do the 1km perimeter walk 2 or 3 times a week. It's a lovely walk with a stream & varied habitats. My son works 3 days a week in the restaurant at the James O'Keeffe institute which is adjacent to the course so when I drop him off I can do some power walking. That's the theory anyway lol my trouble is I keep stopping to take photos! HTMT!
We are fortunate to have two ipê-roxo trees (Handroanthus impetiginosus) bordering our soccer field {football pitch).
Here is another photo of Pitch the Crested Caracara. The hand belongs to his falconer and as you can see Pitch loves to get lots of attention.:)
A contrast between light, dark and misty. The background was muted just enough to keep the yellow tree on the edge of the lake as the main feature. The manicured grass is part of the 9 hole pitch and putt golf course at the Inn on the Lake hotel.

This was taken around midnight with only the lightning to show off the clouds and a torch to light the foreground. It's been about 11 months since the last electrical storm here so I was delighted to get something!

This is a Hemiepiphyte plant, somewhat similar to Strangler Fig.
Pitch Apple, not a real Apple, is a Caribbean native that has become a great threat to Sri Lanka, Hawaii, and many other countries because of its invasive nature.
However, here in Florida, Pitch Apple trees can be found as ornamental trees in private gardens although the fleshy fruits are poisonous.

A microscale recreation of the Hogwarts Quidditch Pitch for the Small category of the Microscale Magic contest on TBB. Behind it you can see the edge of the Forbidden Forest and in front of it is Hagrid pulling a cart as he is tending to the grounds.
Why Roll? Cricket pitches need to be not only true and safe to prevent injury to players, but must also provide a surface that delivers an appropriate level of bounce, pace and consistency over a period of several days or hours of use.
During the winter months the soil profile soaks up the winter rains and fills the pore spaces within the profile. As this happens the clay soil swells.
As we enter spring, the grass growth picks up, the roots start to pull the moisture out of the profile. The days get longer, increasing soil and air temperatures driven by sunshine help to dry the surface of the profile and pulls the moisture out of the profile, thus shrinking the clay profile leaving empty spaces, say like an Aero bar of chocolate. These spaces need to be closed down to create the solid block needed to create the consistent pace and bounce that is desire to play cricket.
