CSX P-001-15 was approaching the Maryland Route 965 overpass near Pinto on the former B&O Mountain Subdivision.
The suits aboard the Office Car Special represented passengers on a freight-only route.
We had gone to the beach to photograph patterns of blown sand in the snow but instead, found ourselves on a totally bare sandy beach. Lot's of ice still out on the lake but the snow had gone in less than 24 hrs on the warm sunny day. While waiting to see what the sunset would present, three riders and their horses came down the beach. One of them, a very reluctant pinto (I think that's the horse breed) being ridden bareback, would not cross the stream with any amount of encouragement. Finally, one of the other riders came back across and splashed through again to show how it's done. With some very loud snorts and whinnies the pinto finally went through.
Shooting directly into the sun, which is something I'm not fond of doing, there was no time for fine tuning the camera settings for fear of missing the moment. I just went with what I had.
Wilbur stands and shoots up through a pot hole arch. This type of arch is called a pot hole because water collected in the sandstone and seeped through weakening the stone and eventually breaking a hole.
Pinto has been working in the schools with us for 5 years, so, at the end of summer school we are having a special party for him and the many students, he has helped “educate.”
B772 rounds the sweeping curve at Pinto on their way east into Cumberland with Q316's train. They were taking their time on the trip from Keyser to Cumberland, which allowed for multiple photos along the way. The two rebuilt SD70ACs shine bright, being on perhaps their first or second trip since being released from the Huntington Shops. Look how clean that plow is!
People standing under Pinto Arch can be seen in the distance. This type of arch is called a pot hole because water collected in the sandstone and seeped through, weakening the stone and eventually breaking a hole.
In the foreground is a tree that has managed to survive in this environment.
Happy Tree-mendous Tuesday!

This little beauty is hidden away on a tributary of Pinto Creek, in Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Access is difficult due to brush, steep ground, and fallen trees, even though it's just a few hundred feet from a heavily used Forest Service road, NF 28.
A striking chestnut and white pinto-style horse with a distinctive blue eye. Visiting a friends farm and he had his eye on me.
