Bartolomé Island is named after Sir Bartholomew James Sulivan, an English naval lieutenant who participated in Darwin's voyage on the Beagle. The island is located to the east of Santiago Island. The eastern part of the island consists of volcanic cones, while the western part is a peninsula with several rock formations, including Pinnacle Rock, a steep volcanic rock.

Never noticed this cave on my prior visits. Looks like a mining exploration that yielded nothing. Makes for good foreground though!
The pinnacles are limestone pillars that protrude out of the sand. The desert covers an area of 190 hectares and there are thousands of limestone pinnacles. This area attracts around 250,000 visitors each year. The Pinnacles are located in Western Australia.
An isolated sandstone pinnacle called Charlie's Garden, lies off the coast at Colleywell Bay.
The garden was at one point much larger and was cultivated by Mr Charles Dockwray, who grew potatoes and veg there.
Sadly erosion has now left the garden, a mere sandstone pinnacle, surrounded by the sea
One of the most popular amateur climbing mountains in the Phoenix area lies northeast of the metro area.Pinnacle Peak offers a "moderate" difficulty climb,though this climber only made it halfway...hiking shoes are definitely needed! LOL

The Trona Pinnacles were formed in a former lake bed in the Searles Basin. The pinnacles are tufa spires that vary in size and shape, some rising 140 feet.
The Trona Pinnacles were formed long ago in a massive lake that once covered this area. The Pinnacles are tufa created by the reaction of spring water released into briny water of the former lake.
The history of the “pinnacles” began about 7,700 years ago when the eruptions of Mt. Mazama were reaching their climax. Torrents of red-hot, gas-charged pumice poured down Mazama’s slopes at speeds of up to 100 mph (160 kph). On top of this came a flow of heavier rocks called scoria. These glowing avalanches flooded downslope for many miles, leaving deep deposits in their wake.
Temperatures in the deposits may have exceeded 750 degrees Fahrenheit (400 degrees Celsius). Plumes of vapors appeared, as gases escaped from the settling rocks through vents called fumaroles. Minerals in the gasses combined with extreme heat, welded the sides of the fumaroles in the shape of slender cones. Since then, streams have eroded the canyon through the deposits, exposing the cones. Many of these fossil fumaroles are hollow.

The Pinnacles are a tightly packed cluster of ancient gravel spires in a forest park. The 'badlands erosion' of Putangirua Pinnacles is a spectacular landscape feature attracting many visitors to the southern Wairarapa.
When the Aorangi Range was an island, 7 to 9 million years ago, screes poured gravels onto the coast, much as they do today around Cape Palliser. The Putangirua Stream has exposed this ancient layer of gravels to the erosive forces of rain and floods. Where cemented silts or rocks within the gravel beds prove more resistant than the underlying sediments, spectacular individual pinnacles or “hoodoos” are formed.
The eerie scenes in The Return of the King as Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli ride along the Dimholt Road to meet the Army of the Dead were filmed against the surreal backdrop of the Pinnacles.

It is not a difficult trail to get to this place. The trail itself is also quite interesting, as you have to go through several dark caves/tunnels! Better to bring a light with you.

The Pinnacles are limestone formations within Nambung National Park, near the town of Cervantes, Western Australia. The area contains thousands of weathered limestone pillars. Some of the tallest pinnacles reach heights of up to 3.5 m above the yellow sand base.. Amazing to think the raw material for the limestone of the Pinnacles came from seashells in an earlier era that was rich in marine life. The local Aboriginal community believes that the Pinnacles are fossilized ghosts, how cool is that! I want to visit again at nighttime, that would be magical. Being part of a dark sky reserve and so remote, it has some of the darkest skies in Australia. The nighttime vista must look incredibly alien & amazing.

Wainman's Pinnacle is one of the Earl Crag monument follies overlooking Cowling. The other monument is the Lund's tower.
The Trona Pinnacles were formed in Searles Lake 10,000 to 100,000 years ago as freshwater Springs interacted with the lake water building towers of calcium carbonate. Today the pinnacles are slowly eroding away.
Just a general view of the pinnacles at The Storr, the tallest being The Old Man of Storr. Not my best shot from here but more to come.
I didn't really get out with the camera this week so I'm delving into the archives from a few weeks ago with another shot from Dorset.
You probably saw my previous shot of The Pinnacles with the gorgeous pinks and blues, so here's one as the sun was rising and giving the cliffs a stunning orange glow.
Despite there being no cloud in the sky it was still a stunning morning and most definitely a good way to start the day.

From the summit of Mount Keen we have a great view of Glen Tanar from which we have climbed. Time to enjoy our lunch and then make the descent.
Mount Keen is my 11th Munro and this is my second time of climbing it. It is the most easterly of all the Munros and stands at 939 Meters (3080 feet), forming an almost perfect cone. A 7 mile cycle up Glen Tanar gets us to the foot of the 2 mile ascent up the mountain.
