Sunrise in the garden.

The snow glowed pink in the sunrise, looking over the garden arbor toward the rising sun.

Soon, the snow.

They are so pretty and fragrant. It's like perfume. I love this time of year, and I wish they could stay pink all summer! hehehehe...poor Bloo...she hasn't changed since her last photo - see a trend?

No special effects! The snow was really red.

Watermelon snow, also called snow algae, pink snow, red snow, or blood snow, is Chlamydomonas nivalis, a species of green algae containing a secondary red carotenoid pigment (astaxanthin) in addition to chlorophyll. Unlike most species of fresh-water algae, it is cryophilic (cold-loving) and thrives in freezing water.[1] Its specific epithet, nivalis, is from Latin and refers to snow.

This type of snow is common during the summer in alpine and coastal polar regions worldwide, such as the Sierra Nevada of California. Here, at altitudes of 10,000 to 12,000 feet (3,000–3,600 m), the temperature is cold throughout the year, and so the snow has lingered from winter storms. Compressing the snow by stepping on it or making snowballs leaves it looking red. Walking on watermelon snow often results in getting bright red soles and pinkish pant cuffs. (source: Wikipedia)

Japanese sakura enthusiasts come by the chartered planeload to appreciate the more than 50 varieties of ornamental cherry that grace the city of Vancouver.

Usually but not always in the presence of young children, I feel compelled to, quick as can, pick up great handfuls of petals and heave them skyward creating a micro-blizzard.

Throughout the night the wind blew wildly, and in the morning the pink petals from the kwanzan cherry were flying off the tree, covering the ground with a kind of pink snow.

The spring showing of ornamental cherry trees is over and the blossoms have left their perch and settled on city streets and parks. Pink snow?

This display of dropped petals is on East 23rd Avenue off Main Street in Vancouver's Mount Pleasant neighbourhood.

Just before the Sun settled into the horizon...It's last rays turned the snow this beautiful pink color

So much is changing in March including access to the COVID vaccine in our community, YAY!

Hmmm...well, this is "Violet."

Somehow I can't help but think this little trick of Mother Nature's is her fault. No sooner did she get her head on last night, when it started to snow. I haven't seen a snow this late since we've lived here 25 years! We're all a little worried about what else she may have in store for us at Jillybug Manor. I have a feeling it won't be long til we find out!

Adorable custom by Lorraine, Maasje!

( Not sure what added that color to the snow ... I didn't fiddle with it on the computer!)... Possibly a mixture of moonshine and my van's tail lights..

The wind came through in gusts and would blow the loose petals off the trees, creating an effect that was not unlike snow. But much more pleasant, I must say.

It has been a cold & rainy spring. At least, the "snow" is pink.

Pink snow, a phenomenon known as watermelon snow, found in the summer along the Beartooth Highway in Montana

I'm giving Morgan the spot as my first stranger cause she totally made my day! I was walking down the street "looking" for pictures and at first walked by Morgan and Stephanie. They were having the absolute best time ever playing with the petals that had fallen off the tree! I didn't want to interrupt them cause it looked like they were having so much fun. I walked half way down the block and realized how great an opportunity I had just missed, so I back tracked and explained the 100strangers project to them. We talked for awhile about the petal and about how it would be perfect if someone was getting married that day. When I asked to photograph them playing Morgan jumped right up with a handful of petal and above is what came out. They were great subjects and a pleasure to meet! Thanks girls!

This picture is #1 in my 100 strangers project. www.100Strangers.com

It's a bit of a shame the petals are in front of her face but I still love the shot!

Update: Morgan is my first picture to make Explore!

The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest is a protected area high in the White Mountains in Inyo County in eastern California. The Great Basin bristlecone pine trees grow between 9,800 and 11,000 feet above sea level, in xeric alpine conditions, protected within the Inyo National Forest. Limber pine also grow in the forest.

The Methuselah Grove in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest is the location of the "Methuselah", a Great Basin bristlecone pine that is 4,851 years old. It is considered to be the world's oldest known and confirmed living non-clonal organism. It was temporarily superseded by the discovery in 2013 of another bristlecone pine in the same area with an age of 5,069 years (germination in 3051 BC), however in May 2017, Dr. Peter Brown removed this tree from his database of old trees because the core sample cannot be found. "Methuselah" is not marked in the forest, to ensure added protection from vandals.
