As two fledgling House Sparrows (Passer domesticus) were sitting quietly on a Jasmine branch, the third flew in and being not so good at landings yet, landed on to or it's siblings!
We currently have a fresh crop of Fledglings. Such fun to watch them!
Finn Slough is a tiny Fraser River fishing community located at the south end of No. 4 Road in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. The community has approximately 30 residents who live in wooden houses, both floating and built on pilings, along the marshy river bank. Many of the buildings were built between the late 19th century and 1950s and many have decayed severely, while some have been carefully restored. Finn Slough was founded by Finnish settlers who came to Richmond in the 1880s. Most of these residents made a good living from fishing and became local landowners.

Besides the comet, you can see the remains of the osprey nest that has kept us entertained these past few months. It's on the roof of the boathouse. :-)

These pilings are the only thing left of another old bridge we found.The frogs were croaking and coyotes were howling....other than the lack of sleep I really like night shooting :-)
Lincoln's Sparrow, Melospiza lincolnii.
There's a brush pile on a walk I sometimes take that always seems to have a Lincoln's sparrow flitting around it. Usually too obscured for me to photograph. Yesterday two of them were out in the open, though far away and in the shadow.
Badlands National Park, South Dakota
This is another re-edit of an old photo that I like.
Tyree Basin is named for the Tyree family who homesteaded in the basin in 1909 - just 20 years after South Dakota became a state. Twin boys were born to the Tyree family there in 1916. Eugene died at birth, but Howard lived another 88 years. In 1954 Howard found his twin brother's grave. It was marked only by a pile of rocks on a hill. Howard left a bottle there in the rocks to identify the site. In the 1960's a scout troop came out and placed a marker and built a fence around the grave. The main visitors to the grave site are bison. Over the years the bison have damaged the original fence and so the National Park Service fixed the original fence and built a barbed wire fence around the grave site to protect it. When Howard died, he was cremated and his ashes were brought here to be with his twin brother's remains. The Badlands did not become a National Park until 1978.
I came out here to do a hiking loop through the Badlands. I had seen the grave marked on the USGS map and made my way to it as part of my hike because I thought that a grave within a National Park was a highly unusual thing. I was not aware of the history until later. This photo was taken a few miles north of the grave site on the evening of a really spectacular sunset.

It was a very dark day and some very few light making it very difficult to capture the details without shadow. I had to work with a lot of contrast, etc, to render this absolutely wonderful opportunity of ice pile up on a beach.
Mother Nature left this pretty little pile, swirled by the wind, on my patio. I couldn't ignore it ;)
8258 and 8135 power up through Gunning with 9827 empty grain to Western NSW, after slowing for a signal due to congestion ahead, this was the 4th train through Gunning in an hour.
