Peccaries belong to the even-toed ungulates. They are very similar in appearance to our wild boars, but they appear to have different characteristics such as a different structure of their molars and their digestive system.
Collared peccaries are real all-rounders in terms of habitat, they can be found in deserts as well as in the rainforest

Ten years ago I saw them jump ditches for the first time in the Eempolders, I couldn't believe my eyes, but I was able to take a picture of it that you can see here (www.flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/17051018457/in/album-...). I wasn't completely satisfied with the quality, my camera at the time couldn't do much better either, but since then I have made several failed attempts to achieve a better result.
Until about 4 weeks ago in the same Eempolders I saw a bunch of hormone-addled hares running after each other very close by. As everyone probably knows, you are a bit less careful under the influence of such aphrodisiacs, and you forget to look around you. So several ditches were jumped, and unfortunately I missed all the opportunities (I thought) because too far, wrong light, too late etc. etc.
But eventually one hare came strolling back and then I was in the right place, camera ready.
And when you see them jump you have to laugh. They are like springs, from a standing position they effortlessly jump over a ditch of about 4 meters wide. At a comparable size, Armand Duplantis would pale if a hare were allowed to participate. From a standing position over the obstacle, without a pole, and effortlessly jumping 8 meters high. Bob Beamon would not even put on his shoes anymore. If a hare participates, it jumps at full speed over the sand pit and probably ends up in the water pit of the steeple chase.
The title might be a little bit strange, but older people might know what I am referring to.

DB Cargo Tug 60039 'Dove Holes' passes through the station and disappears east with the 12.20pm Toton Sidings - Boston Steel 'pig-pens' (6E02). Meantime, Cross Country unit 170114 stands at platform 4 after arriving with the 9.45am ex-Cardiff (1M60).
Bay platform 5 is to the near right, and currently empty. Once a through platform it was turned into a bay during the track modifications made a few years ago intended to increase the station's capacity.
I couldn't resist exploiting the shape and rippled texture of those 'pig-pen' wagons, and who knows how long they'll be around.
Apologies for the obscure title - those in the know will know, maybe.

Introducing Lucy. She is my son's pet and has just moved into the living room while we fix Erics floors. The poor creature has managed 7 years but now it's time for her to put up with my camera. She doesn't mind at all. The most cheerful little soul she is!
Pink Floyd Pig at BBC Broadcasting House - there weren't there. I believe Kasbian were instead on The One Show.
Usually there's a giant rat placed at these non-union construction sites but this one had a big inflated pig.
'Flying Pig' 43106 stands at Kidderminster Town station with moody skies beyond. The weather that day was mixed to say the least.
This little piggy is nobody's bacon. She's on permanent display at the century-old Spruce Lane Farm. The farm, with equipment and barns as they used to be, is open to the public at Bronte Creek Provincial Park. Texture added (my own) sparingly.

There has been nothing but grey skies for the last couple of weeks so when a chink of sunlight came out late this afternoon, we headed out into the Forest. Phill was taking a picture of the Empress when she came up for a bit of a fuss.
Free range pigs are released by the commoners throughout the forest during the period sept - oct .
This enables the animals to eat the many acorns and so allow less for the ponies to find as they can be poisonous to these animals
One of the two pet pigs at The Piggery Cafe in Sassafras . . . not sure if this is Bubble or Squeak!

Anita and I saw this fabulous creature near a Flea market located somewhere just off of route 11 in Virginia (USA). At first we couldn't decide what it was supposed to represent but finally agreed on pig due to the curly tail. LOL Hope everyone is having a fabulous day!
