Picture jaspers exhibit combinations of patterns resulting in what appear to be scenes or images, when seen on a cut section. Such patterns include banding from flow or depositional patterns (from water or wind), as well as dendritic or color variations. While these "picture jaspers" can be found all over the world, specific colors or patterns are unique to the geographic region from which they originate.

Thank you very much for your kind comments and visit, much appreciated!

... no, not L.A. this time. But signed with love, forevermore.

Fittingly named, Picture Lake is located in the Mount Baker National Forest, Washington, USA. The view of Shuksam from the shore of Picture Lake.

The picturesque village of Limone on Lake Garda, the colourful boats moored in the sheltered harbour, set against the towering mountains across the lake.

My favourite staircase at the historic Mail Exchange building in Melbourne. This was my third trip to these stairs, but this time with a 14mm lens to get a little wider perspective. Only (what I hadn't counted on) once you correct for the rather massive distortion of the Samyang lens I suspect i'm back around 16mm - same as my previous shots ... i'm still happy with the results though with the wonderful afternoon sunlight streaming in on an angle through the door below.

This shot is actually the same image as my earlier "The Entrance" - which was heavily cropped from this image. This shows the 'big picture' and grandeur of the staircase with the details of the man making his entrance in his own personal beam of sunlight almost going unnoticed.

Titterstone Clee Hill, but it reminds me of Meteor Crater in Arizona, which of course is bigger because it is in the USA

Mmmm. Not much difference between this and the shot with the Nikon. One is much heavier than the other. And the phone is provided free by work. But no one will know I'm a photographer unless I have a brick in my hand and a tripod. Who's going to say "Nice phone" instead of "Nice camera"? Will I need to get a badge or get the words "PHOTOGRAPHER" emblazoned on the back of my coat?

The Bigger Picture is by Stornoway and is fine for this expansive shot of a typical day of beach storms. We have rain forecast again for most of the week, so I need to make the most of the sunnier intervals between the showers. I'm off to the Lakes next week so need to do some washing if we get a dry day.

Sacred Datura growing along the Picture Canyon Trail near Flagstaff Arizona.

If there was one picture that I wanted to take on my trip to the Redwoods, this was it. Sunlight streaming through a grove, beams of light piercing the mist of the undergrowth. I was lucky enough to experience two clear sunrises while in Northern California (the rest were all misty and rainy thanks to an Atmospheric River) but this one, taken in along Jedediah Smith's Boy Scout Trail was the perfection I was seeking.

Redwood National Park is on Yurok land.

Having traveled 10 1/2 miles east from the end of their rare mileage trip to Quebec Junction Boston and Maine F7 4266 and Maine Central GP7 573 (EMD blt. Mar. 1949 and Sep. 1950 respectively) are back on the regularly used rails here at MP 89 east of Fabyan Station as they roll their nine car 470 Railroad Club special (with GP35 216 on the rear) over the Ammonoosuc River. They still have one more photo stop at Crawford Notch planned before making the long 1400 ft 2.2% descent down the old Maine Central Mountain Sub.
