Romanian-born actor and director Lupu Pick (1886-1931) started as a silent film actor in German film in 1910, but from 1918 he would also become a prolific film director, known for e.g. his Kammerspielfilms Scherben (1921) and Sylvester (1924).

This is the spicebush swallowtail that pupated on the ground, instead of on a stick (silly caterpillar). I gently scooted him over with my finger to clean up around him (the other cats were making a mess), and he surprised me by squirming violently... so then I felt the need to pick him up to film it. =)
(I'm not poking him hard, I promise!)
I've read this is a defense mechanism against predators. (But doesn't it seem like a wiggly thing would interest predators more than a still thing? Depends on the predator, perhaps...)
