We physically inspect the crawlspace looking for moisture, pest, rot, and other issues.

The Alcazar in Seville. There's quite a lot to write about this.

Physically...it's located in the monumental zone of Seville, within sight of the Archive of the Indies and the Seville Cathedral.

History... This exact site has been occupied since the 8th century B.C. (Hello, Phoenicians!) The College of Olearians was on this plot o' land beginning in the 1st century A.D. (Thanks, Romans!) An early Visigothic church was built on the ruins of that. (That'd be the Basilica of Saint Vincent.) Hey, the Moor the better! They came along in 712 and ruled Seville for about 5 centuries (different Moorish empires) during which time they expanded the buildings a little bit. Finally, the Christians took the town back in the mid-13th century and demolished almost everything...just to rebuild it...in Mudejar fashion. (What is Mudejar? It's an architectural style that means...Christians imitating Muslim style without the actual Muslims. Something along those lines.) Which brings us to...

Today...it's a palace (technically palaces; the Spanish name is Reales Alcazares...and the royal family still owns this place and has residence here. All of the second floor...their private digs.) The tour guide enjoyed using the word "pastiche," and...it is. Beautiful as this place is, it's a mix...Gothic palace, gardens, Casa del Asistente, Casa de la Contratacion, Mudejar, and a very little of the original Moorish construction (Patio del Yeso). Basically a mix of a whole lot of different...stuff. For example, in the Casa de la Contratacion, you'll find the Capilla de la Virgen de los Navegantes (Admirals' Room).

Most folks seem about 99% certain that this is the room where Queen Isabel awaited as Columbus returned from the New World for the first time. His coat of arms is hanging on the wall here, opposite a painting that has him in it. (His coat of arms has the royal coats of Castilla y Leon, plus some Caribbean islands, plus anchors....with the inscription "Columbus gave a new world to Castille and Leon."

A lot happened on these grounds. Births (and maybe deaths), intrigue, legends. It's a beautiful, fascinating place.

I thought this was cool. There were a lot of people selling things, and while I was tempted to purchase some form of memorabilia, I came home with only what I brought with me. Well, physically...

Is tech connecting us or separating us physically

From November 1, 2023: I’ve felt so #broken again lately, both #emotionally & #physically, & frankly, it’s beyond #embarrassing crying on here about my #persistent #personal #failures.

Today was the 80th day of my intravenous #antibiotics therapy. Sadly, I still have a few more weeks of this. The antibiotics really drain my system, leaving me #lethargic & unproductive by the time I get to my Mom’s place, where I’ve been staying since I had my #stroke.

I’ve messed up my #ArtHistory course. I didn’t tell the professor what’s been happening with my health, primarily because when I had done so in the past it was deemed to be #oversharing & #inappropriate. Since then, I’ve done my best to not miss this teacher’s classes & to get my work in.

But I did miss the first class, & I had hoped not to miss another. Stupidly, I did miss the October 11 class as on the 10th I got my COVID-19 booster #shot, as well as my annual flu vaccination. Those shots, combined with the ongoing antibiotics therapy, knocked me out hard. I remember I developed a fever, & sleeping all day. When I went for my IV, I remember describing how horrible I felt to the nurses & considered going to the ER. Actually, one of the nurses took me back to my car in a wheelchair & I ended up sleeping in my car for an hour or two before heading back to my Mom’s. In hindsight, I should not have even driven.

On October 17, I saw that the professor had emailed me, saying they had contacted the early alert team at @kwantlenu (who I never heard back from), & strongly recommended I drop the class.

I went to the next class, & the professor told me to see them in the hallway after asking me why I was there. They firmly talked to me like a strict parent talks to a child. They were tired of my games & if I was going to stay in the course, I had to leave now to work on & hand in an incomplete assignment by the end of the day. I worked hard on it, but as the midnight hour approached I found myself giving up as I was only halfway through the questions. Very early the next morning, they emailed me saying they were failing me in the course, leaving me feeling so useless for not handling things better with them.

(305/365)

I've never been physically lost - just temporarily misplaced - or maybe on a scenic detour... I can triangulate my position on a topographical map and navigate using aerial photographs. And then I have several stories about dysfunctional artificial intelligence built into modern GPS units: roads that don't exist, destinations in the wrong place, leading my the wrong way down one-way streets... Once the GPS took us through a toll booth, made a U-turn at the next exit, back through the toll booth - less than two minutes later - and I couldn't get a refund from the same person! I have no faith that AI or driver-less cars will actually work in the near future...it's all hype and propaganda. Just like the Seattle World's Fair, which closed on my birthday in 1962 - we still don't have flying cars! #consumption #abstractphotography #fineartphotography #pandamnit #lockdown

Please Return me to my Master...

Welcome, won't you come inside?

Meet the ghost where I reside

Despite how they're abusing me

Lonely, I will never be

Comfort in the hell I know

Resentment like a cancer grows

Longing for the day I'm free

Burn to get you out of me

Lyin', supplyin' the need

Shedding and spreading the seed

Setting the trap with a thread

Spinning the web

Misery, she needs me

Oh-oh, but I need her more

Misery, she loves me

Oh-oh, but I love her more

Misery, she kills me

Oh-oh, but I end this war

Misery, she fills me

Oh, no, but she's not what I'm livin' for

Ricochets within my head

Conversations never said

Magnifyin' every thought

That familiar pain she brought

Seeps inside eventually

Misery loves company

Sullen, I created you

I suppose that I can end you too

She waits (she waits, she waits, she waits)

She waits (she waits, she waits, she waits)

Misery, she needs me

Oh-oh, but I need her more

Misery, she loves me

Oh-oh, but I love her more

Misery, she kills me

Ooh, but I end this war

Misery, she fills me

Oh, no, but she's not what I'm livin' for

Oh, no

Ooh, misery

She needs me, but I need her more

She loves me, but I love her more

She kills me (she kills me), but I end this war

She fills me (she fills me), but she's not what I'm livin' for

Oh, no, oh, no

No, no, no, no, no, no

Not why I'm living

Misery, she needs me

Oh-oh, but I need her more

Misery, she loves me

Oh, but I love her more

Misery, she kills me

Oh, but I end this war

There's an ice cream party in my house

An ice cream party in my house

Please come over

There's an ice cream party in my house

An ice cream party in my house

Please come over

There's no end to the ways

That we can play and play and play

So please come over

There's an end to the day

And it ends much differently this time, come over

There's an ice cream party in my house

An ice cream party in my house

Please come over

Well, my father doesn't ring the bell no more

It's alright, would you please come over?

Sure, you've heard that him and mom are separated

And he's gone, he won't be around

Oh, an ice cream party in my house

An ice cream party in my house

Please come over

I promise I won't tell any other kids that you did

But please, please come over

An ice cream party at my house

We can play until we're sacked out

Please come over

There's an ice cream party in my house

An ice cream party in my house

Please come over

Oh, there's an ice cream party in my house (pretty, pretty please)

An ice cream party in my house (pretty, pretty please)

Please come over (please come over)

Oh, an ice cream party in my house (pretty, pretty please)

An ice cream party in my house (pretty, pretty please)

Please come over (please come over)

There's an ice cream party in my house, please come over

Try to get inside my head

All the windows are painted shut

Take your horse to my water to drink

I'm not the gift that you think

Cross my name off the devil's to-do list

Burn every page in that little black book

And we're praying it remains in the mouth of God

You've got cracks in your magic

Blood on your hands

Cracks in your magic

Blood on your hands

I'm the one

The one that you left behind

Wish I knew you

Knew you when you were alive

It's not a costume

It's not how I wanted to die

It's not a costume

It's not how I wanted to die

Cross my name off the devil's to-do list

Burn every page in that little black book

And we're praying it remains in the mouth of God

You've got cracks in your magic

Blood on your hands

Cracks in your magic

Blood on your hands

I'm the one

The one that you left behind

Wish I knew you

Knew you when you were alive

It's not a costume

It's not how I wanted to die

It's not a costume

It's not how I wanted to die

I'll break your sunshine to scare my shadow away

I'll break your sunshine to scare my shadow away

I'll break your sunshine to scare my shadow away

I'll break your sunshine to scare my shadow away

I'll break your sunshine to scare my shadow away

I'm the one

The one that you left behind

Wish I knew you

Knew you when you were alive

It's not a costume

It's not how I wanted to die

It's not a costume

It's not how I wanted to die

I'll break your sunshine

I'll break your sunshine to scare my shadow away

I'll break your sunshine

I'll break your sunshine (to scare my shadow away)

I've run right out of thoughts and I've run right out of words

As I used them up, I used them up

Yeah the fire is almost cold and there's nothing left to burn

I've run right out of feeling and I've run right out of world

And everything I promised, and everything I tried

Yeah everything I ever did I used to feed the fire

I used to feed the fire

I used to feed the fire

I used to feed the fire

But the fire is almost out is almost out

And there's nothing left to burn

No there's nothing left to burn

Not even this

And the fire is almost dead and there's nothing left to burn

I've finished everything

And all the things I promised, and all the things I tried

Yeah all the things I ever dreamed I used to feed the fire

I used to feed the fire

I used to feed the fire

I used to feed the fire

But the fire is almost out

Half my life I've been here

Half my life in flames

Using all I ever had to keep the fire ablaze

To keep the fire ablaze

To keep the fire ablaze

To keep the fire ablaze

But there's nothing left to burn

No there's nothing left to burn

And the fire is almost out

There fire is almost out

Almost out, almost out

Almost out, almost out

And there's nothing left to burn✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️ ✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️ getyarn.io/yarn-clip/6fa0eb59-c2fb-440c-b49f-ba73be433c44 ✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️ ✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️ ✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️ ✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️ ✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️ ✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️ ✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️ ✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️ ✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️Who is Richard Brake ❓

He jumped down, he knocked her off her feet, uhh

And then I knew it was the end of her

He's gonna kill that girl tonight

He's gonna kill that girl

My heart stood still and skipped a beat

Then he knocked her on the floor

But he wanted a little bit more

We have one chance.

One chance to get everything right.

We have one chance, one chance.

And if we're lucky we might.

My friends, my habits, my family,

They mean so much to me.

I just don't think that it's right.

I've seen so many ships sail in,

Just to head back out again and go off sinking.

I'm just a box in a cage. I'm just a box in a cage.

I'm just a box, just a box in a cage.

I'm just a box, just a box in a cage.

I'm just a box, just a box in a cage.

I'm just a box in a cage.

Didn't mean to laugh, didn't know I had.

Didn't know the better part of what you said

'cause in your head you are not home.

Didn't get the joke. Didn't mean to poke another,

Just to save myself

From some something something or another one.

Well walk home.

I'm just a box in a cage. I'm just a box in a cage.

I'm just a box, just a box in a cage.

I'm just a box in a cage.

I'm just a box, just a box in a cage.

I'm just a box, just a box in a cage.

I'm just a box in a cage.

We have one chance,

One chance to get everything right.

My friends, my habits, my family,

They mean so much to me.

I just don't think that it's right.

I've seen so many ships sail in,

Just to head back out again and go off sinking.

With the fire from the fireworks up above me

With a gun for a lover and a shot for the pain at hand

You run for cover in the temple of love

You run for another but still the same

For the wind will blow my name across this land

In the temple of love you hide together

Believing pain and fear outside

But someone near you rides the weather

And the tears he cried will rain on walls

As wide as lovers eyes

In the temple of love: Shine like thunder

In the temple of love: Cry like rain

In the temple of love: Hear my calling

In the temple of love: Hear my name

And the devil in black dress watches over

My guardian angel walks away

Life is short and love is always over in the morning

Black wind come carry me far away

With the sunlight died and night above me

With a gun for a lover and a shot for the pain inside

You run for cover in the temple of love

You run for another it's all the same

For the wind will blow and throw your walls aside

With the fire from the fireworks up above

With a gun for a lover and a shot for the pain

You run for cover in the temple of love

I shine like thunder cry like rain

And the temple grows old and strong

But the wind blows longer cold and long

And the temple of love will fall before

This black wind calls my name to you no more

In the black sky thunder sweeping

Underground and over water

Sounds of crying weeping will not save

Your faith for bricks and dreams for mortar

All your prayers must seem as nothing

Ninety-six below the wave

When stone is dust and only air remains

In the temple of love: Shine like thunder

In the temple of love: Cry like rain

In the temple of love: Hear the calling

And the temple of love is falling

Down

In the temple of love: Shine like thunder

In the temple of love: Cry like rain

In the temple of love: Hear my calling

In the temple of love: Hear my name

In the black sky thunder sweeping

Underground and over water

Sounds of crying weeping will not save

Your faith for bricks and dreams for mortar

All your prayers must seem as nothing

Ninety-six below the wave

When stone is dust and only air remains

the only haven you can trust

And the devil in black dress watches over

My guardian angel walks away

Alice pressed against the wall

So she can see the door

In case the laughing strangers crawl and

Crush the petals on the floor

Alice in her party dress

She thanks you kindly

So serene

She needs you like she needs her tranqs

To tell her that the world is clean

To promise her a definition

Tell her where the rain will fall

Tell her where the sun shines bright

And tell her she can have it all

Today

Pass the crystal spread the Tarot

In illusion comfort lies

The safest way the straight and narrow

No confusion no surprise

Alice in her party dressed to kill

She the thanks you turns away

She needs you like she needs her pills

To tell her that the world's okay

To promise her a definition

Tell her where the rain will fall

Tell her where the sun shines bright

And tell her she can have it all

Today

Today

Alice

Don't give it away

Some people get by with a little understanding

Some people get by with a whole lot more

I don't know, why you gotta be so undemanding

One thing I know, I want more, I want more

And I need all the love that I can't get too

And I need all the love I can get

And I need all the love that I can't get too

D'you get scared to feel so much?

To let somebody touch you?

So hot, so cold, so far so out of control

Hard to come by, and harder to hold

Some people get by with a little understanding

Some people get by with a whole lot more

I don't know, why you gotta be so undemanding

I want more

And I need all the love I can get

And I need all the love that I can't get too

And I need all the love I can get

And I need all the love that I can't get too

There are parts of me that don't get nervous

Not the parts that shake

You won't get what you deserve

You are what you take

Learning to cry for fun and profit

I'm not done yet

Counterfeit dollars or the English Zloty

Anything I can get

Some people get by with a little understanding

Some people get by with a whole lot more

I don't know, why you gotta be so undemanding

One thing I know, I want more

And I need all the love I can get

And I need all the love that I can't get too

And I need all the love I can get

And I need all the love that I can't get too

And I need all the love I can get

And I need all the love that I can't get too

And I need all the love I can get

And I need all the love that I can't get too

And I need all the love I can get

Last October, Marilyn Manson split with longtime bassist Jeordie White — otherwise known as Twiggy Ramirez — after White’s ex-girlfriend, former Jack Off Jill front-woman Jessicka Addams, came forward with allegations of rape and sexual assault. (White subsequently issued a public apology, stating he does not "condone non-consensual sex of any kind.") Manson commented on the situation in a recent interview with Kerrang!, revealing that White's dismissal might have been a long time coming, as Ultimate Guitar points out.

“I did not divorce Twiggy as a friend or brother, because I still care about him greatly," Manson began, “but I can't say that my musical relationship with Twiggy has been good for several years.” He added, “My relationship with [musical collaborator] Tyler Bates on The Pale Emperor [Manson’s 2015 album] made something open up in me and I didn't want to let negative energy back in my life.”

The air is whizzing by, the spider watched us fly

And at best you could say you were obliged

Well, we sing the spider's song, and the words are too too long

And it scared me just to say I'll carry on, the carrion

It takes a lot of pay-no-mind with your cellular gadgets on

Oh, our lives don't seem to float

You think you know, you just don't know

Why you should never fuck a spider on the fly

Well, if you fuck a spider on the fly

You're gonna gonna gonna get the news

Yeah, there's a lot of webs

Sure, there's enough for you

The last thing I should say won't be spoken anyways

And that's why I got to move

Well, there's a lotta things I shoulda done

I shoulda oughta probably oughta do

So you should never fuck a spider on the fly

If you do you're gonna find out soon

There's still some web for you

Whatcha gonna do

It doesn't matter what they don't know

They really really want you to know

So they'll tap tap tap, no matter where you go, oh

Peeping Tom's at every window

Dangling a leash for your throat

Peeping and tapping, looking into every single window, oh

Oh, I don't care for politics and it doesn't care for me

I don't like being watched by the TV

Well, there's a lot of news, a lot of news

A lot of news, a lot of news

And it all works as a web for you

Well, you should never fuck a spider on the fly

If you really really want to move

'Cause we're all food

And there's the web for you

Well, if you fuck a spider on the fly

You're gonna gonna gonna get the news

There's a lot of webs

Yeah, there's a web for you

Peeping Tom's at every window

Dangling a leash for your throat

Peeping and smudging, looking into every window

It doesn't matter what they don't know

They really really want you to know

So they'll tap tap tap tap tap, on every window, oh

They zoom in, you can't zoom out

Oh, your head's my house now

I live in every corner of your mind, I ain't coming out

I have a lot to do

To become you

Well, I ain't taking orders but they're still givin' them out

Oh, I'm lost over international waters in the cloud

Where I got got got got got got got some news

Well, you should never fuck a spider on the fly

Physically disabled hunters, including disabled U.S. veterans participate in the 12th Annual Bill Nesbit Physically Challenged Memorial Hunt hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Jennings Randolph Lake, WV, Nov. 13, 2017. (U.S. Army photos by David Gray)

Interstate 26 (I-26) is a nominally east–west (but physically more northwest–southeast diagonal) main route of the Interstate Highway System in the Southeastern United States. I-26 runs from the junction of U.S. Route 11W (US 11W) and US 23 in Kingsport, Tennessee, generally southeastward to US 17 in Charleston, South Carolina.[2] The portion from Mars Hill, North Carolina, east (compass south) to I-240 in Asheville, North Carolina, has signs indicating FUTURE I-26 because the highway does not yet meet all of the Interstate Highway standards. A short realignment as an improvement in the freeway was also planned in Asheville, but has been postponed indefinitely due to North Carolina's budget shortfalls.[3] Northwards from Kingsport, US 23 continues to Portsmouth, Ohio, as Corridor B of the Appalachian Development Highway System, and beyond to Columbus, Ohio, as Corridor C. In conjunction with the Columbus–Toledo, Ohio, corridor formed by I-75, US 23, and State Route 15, I-26 forms part of a mostly high-speed four-or-more-lane highway from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Coast at Charleston, South Carolina. There are no official plans for extensions north of Kingsport, Tennessee.

Make the most physically descriptive image of yourself.

You have a gorgeous face. So that won’t ever be your problem.

It’s hard to go from there without ever having talked to you in person. I guess you can’t be a complete asshole either, from the way you phrased things. I’ve seen this same question asked horribly more times than not. So I don’t want...

The mineral marcasite, sometimes called “white iron pyrite”, is iron sulfide (FeS2) with orthorhombic crystal structure. It is physically and crystallographically distinct from pyrite, which is iron sulfide with cubic crystal structure. Both structures do have in common that they contain the disulfide S22− ion, having a short bonding distance between the sulfur atoms. The structures differ in how these di-anions are arranged around the Fe2+ cations. Marcasite is lighter and more brittle than pyrite. Specimens of marcasite often crumble and break up due to the unstable crystal structure.

On fresh surfaces, it is pale yellow to almost white and has a bright metallic luster. It tarnishes to a yellowish or brownish color and gives a black streak. It is a brittle material that cannot be scratched with a knife. The thin, flat, tabular crystals, when joined in groups, are called “cockscombs”.

In marcasite jewellery, pyrite used as a gemstone is called “marcasite” – that is, marcasite jewellery is made from pyrite, not from the mineral marcasite. Marcasite in the scientific sense is not used as a gem due to its brittleness. In the late medieval and early modern eras, the word “marcasite” meant all iron sulfides in general, including both pyrite and the mineral marcasite. The narrower, modern scientific definition for marcasite as orthorhombic iron sulfide dates from 1845. The jewelers’ sense for the word “marcasite” pre-dates this 1845 scientific redefinition.

Occurrence

Marcasite can be formed as both a primary or a secondary mineral. It typically forms under low-temperature, highly acidic conditions. It occurs in sedimentary rocks (shales, limestones and low grade coals) as well as in low temperature hydrothermal veins. Commonly associated minerals include pyrite, pyrrhotite, galena, sphalerite, fluorite, dolomite, and calcite.

As a primary mineral marcasite forms nodules, concretions, and crystals in a variety of sedimentary rock, such as in the chalk layers found on both sides of the English Channel at Dover, Kent, England, and at Cap Blanc-Nez, Pas de Calais, France, where it forms as sharp individual crystals and crystal groups, and nodules (similar to those shown here).

As a secondary mineral, it forms by chemical alteration of a primary mineral, such as pyrrhotite or chalcopyrite.

Sedimentary marcasite and low pH

In laboratory experiments, marcasite forms preferentially to pyrite at a pH of less than about 5. Ab initio calculations suggest that this is due to pyrite having a higher surface energy (thus being less thermodynamically stable) than marcasite at low pH.

Due to the association of marcasite with low pH, the occurrence of marcasite in sedimentary rocks in the geologic record implies the presence of highly acidic conditions during the formation and early diagenesis of those rocks. However, sedimentary pore waters below the modern ocean are typically buffered at near-neutral to slightly alkaline pH by dissolved carbonate species. This raises the question of how sedimentary pore waters became sufficiently acidic to promote marcasite formation in the past.

Several theories have been proposed for the formation of early diagenetic marcasite, including: partial oxidation of primary pyrite by molecular oxygen infiltrating from the overlying water column, and rapid anoxic organic matter decomposition and organic acid generation by fermentation and methanogenesis.

Varieties and blends

Blueite (S.H.Emmons): Nickel variety of marcasite, found in Denison Drury and Townships, Sudbury Dist., Ontario, Canada.

Lonchidite (August Breithaupt): Arsenic variety of marcasite, found at Churprinz Friedrich August Erbstolln Mine (Kurprinz Mine), Großschirma Freiberg, Erzgebirge, Saxony, Germany; ideal formula Fe(S, As)2.

Synonyms for this variety:

kausimkies,

kyrosite,

lonchandite,

metalonchidite (Sandberger) described at Bernhard Mine near Hausach (Baden), Germany.

Sperkise: designates a marcasite having twin spearhead crystal on {101}. Sperkise derives from the German Speerkies (Speer meaning spear and Kies gravel or stone). This twin is very common in the marcasite of a chalky origin, particularly those from the Cap Blanc-Nez.

Decay

Marcasite reacts more readily than pyrite under conditions of high humidity. The product of this disintegration is iron(II) sulfate and sulfuric acid. The hydrous iron sulfate forms a white powder consisting of the mineral melanterite, FeSO4·7H2O.

This disintegration of marcasite in mineral collections is known as "pyrite decay". When a specimen goes through pyrite decay, the marcasite reacts with moisture and oxygen in the air, the sulfur oxidizing and combining with water to produce sulfuric acid that attacks other sulfide minerals and mineral labels. Low humidity (less than 60%) storage conditions prevents or slows the reaction

Physically the best way to get close to something is to touch it. When you can feel you can truly become one with nature. You do not even need to touch nature to feel it within your soul. To feels nature's comforting and calming essence is to know the meaning of being part of this crazy chaos called life.

A photograph is an index: it points to what it refers to, but is linked, physically, to that object by way of the object's image being etched onto a light sensitive media. To state the obvious. But the object itself can be indexical as well. To wit:

Joseph Lovett was born in Beverly, Massachusetts in 1813. He arrived in Boston in 1827 and, at the age of 14, worked for a man named Daniel Stafford, who had established an iron foundry in 1813. Apparently Lovett became a partner of the firm in 1840, and after Stafford died in 1845, Lovett took over the foundry with another partner, a man named Albert W. Smith. They changed the firm's name to Smith & Lovett. It was located at 57 Devonshire Street—now a hotel, the Hyatt Centric Faneuil Hall Boston. Smith & Stafford furnished ironwork for all kinds of projects in Massachusetts, and apparently throughout New England, including these steps, still washed by the sun, for a building on Middle Street, in Portland, Me.

Of Lovett, a publication called Boston of Today wrote in 1892:

“Mr. Lovett has been with the works since 1827, and has never been absent over one month at a time during the whole period of nearly sixty-five years, either from sickness or vacation; he has always personally been present to attend to business. Daily at his post, in active management of his large interests, Mr. Lovett is a striking example of what nature accords to a man in return for a strict observance of her laws and the living of a correct and industrious life.”

The company was dissolved in 1939. The steps are still here.
