These pictures from Gansu province were taken during a nine-day trip in May 2015. Gansu is a province at the geographical heart of China. Its capital, Lanzhou, is pretty close to the center of the country as can be from what I can tell by looking at maps.
Gansu, though, is most certainly considered west China by the Chinese. Physically, the province reminds me of a small dumbbell sitting on an angle. There’s a southern (southeastern) section that is slightly large and has a high elevation (often between 2,000-3,000 meters) with a higher concentration of Muslims and Tibetans than most other areas of China. When you get closer to Xiahe, where Labrang Monastery is located, road signs are both in Tibetan and Mandarin. The LP 2011 had listed three places of interest in southern Gansu: Milarepa Palace in Hezuo, Labrang Monstery in Xiahe (listed as one of the 30 “Must Dos” in China), and Langmusi down on the Sichuan border. I had originally intended to visit all three places, but ended up dropping Langmusi – the Alpine village – and spending an extra day out west.
So all told in the south, I spent a few overcast hours in Hezuo at Milarepa Palace (as quirky as I recall LP saying it is, but also something I could have done without) before spending two nights at the Overseas Tibetan Hotel about 100 meters outside the eastern gate of Labrang Monastery in Xiahe. Xiahe was mesmerizing to me. It reminded me a little of some western US towns: one wide, main street that runs the length of town and most of the buildings are two- or three-story establishments.
Xiahe is around 3,300 meters in elevation, so altitude sickness is mentioned a few times, though I never experienced any type of nausea. I have nothing but good things to say about the hotel (not extravagant, but nice and comfortable beds), the owner (Lohsang Amso – a good man – who can also arrange bike rental, local and regional travel, etc.) and the good folks a few doors down at the Snowy Mountain Cafe – which seems to only be open in the evening – but where you can eat yak…which I did. One night, I had Nepalese yak curry (Nepalese chicken curry the other night). Other than that, I was amazed at how close (and countless) the stars in the night sky seemed to be, but given the altitude and lack of surface light, it wasn’t unexpected…just amazing.
Having spent the previous day on a morning flight from Chengdu to Lanzhou (one provincial capital to another), an hour bus ride from Lanzhou Airport downtown, another 45 minute taxi ride across town (through horrendous traffic), a 4 hour bus ride from Lanzhou down to southern Gansu that ended in Hezuo, an hour or two at Milarepa Palace in Hezuo, then finally another 1-2 hour bus from Hezuo to Xiahe, I finally found myself plopping down on my bed at the Overseas Tibetan…sometime in early evening.
Though things didn’t go exactly as planned, they were close enough and I really had no complaints. My biggest surprise was the number of mosques I saw en route to Xiahe. (I hadn’t realized that the Muslim population in this particular region was quite so large.)
Upon waking the following morning – it was a Monday, I recall – I made the incredibly short walk to the Labrang Monastery. Labrang Monastery is a fascinating place. It was founded in 1709 by Ngagong Tsunde (first generation of the third in line behind the Dalai and Panchen Lamas). It is one of the six major monasteries of the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat sect) order of Tibetan Buddhism. Three of the other six are near Lhasa, one near Shigatse, and the other near Xining (Qinghai province).
This is the largest Tibetan Buddhist temple (if I remember reading correctly) outside Tibet. To walk the entire kora (circumference of the temple with prayer wheels) is over a 3 km endeavor, which I undertook on that Monday morning.
It was a pleasant walk, rife with photographic opportunities – people don’t mind having their pictures taken, though the Tibetan monks…not so much. They had to give their permission, and usually didn’t want to, which was fine by me. Around the back (north) side of the monastery, there’s an outer kora trail up the mountain that would give a nice view, but I was frankly too lazy to take it (and didn’t find it, anyway).
And the people. Photographing people here (monks or otherwise) is just…a treasure trove waiting to happen. Regarding the monks living here, there apparently used to be about four thousand, but limits have been set to around 1,800 now. (All I’ll say is, like most places in China, the Cultural Revolution was none too kind...)
After walking the kora, I hung out at Everest Cafe (Lohsang’s restaurant at the Overseas Tibetan) for a no frills breakfast, then spent the remainder of the morning with a tour of the interior of the temple and wandering around the grounds. The monastery has a few different temples, monastic colleges, living residences…it’s really quite a large compound.
The day had started sunny, but by sundown was turning pretty cloudy, so no great sunset shots to be had here, and it was getting a bit chilly in the evening at that altitude, so as soon as it was evident there wouldn’t be any more shooting, I went on over to Snowy Mountain for a relaxing dinner alone before retiring to my room for the night. Tuesday morning found me on another long travel day via bus, taxi, and train…to the opposite side of the province: western Gansu province, which was almost like another planet.

A physically perfect, but innocent, man goes in search of his twin brother, who is a short small-time crook.
Interstate 81 (I-81) is a north–south (physically northeast–southwest) Interstate Highway in the eastern part of the United States. Its southern terminus is at I-40 in Dandridge, Tennessee; its northern terminus is on Wellesley Island at the Canadian border, where the Thousand Islands Bridge connects it to Highway 401, the main Ontario freeway connecting Detroit via Toronto to Montreal. The major metropolitan areas that I-81 connects to include Harrisburg and the Wyoming Valley in Pennsylvania and Syracuse in New York.
I-81 largely traces the paths created down the length of the Appalachian Mountains through the Great Appalachian Valley by migrating animals, American Indians, and early settlers. It also follows a major corridor for troop movements during the Civil War. These trails and roadways gradually evolved into U.S. Route 11 (US 11); I-81 parallels much of the older US 11. Being mostly rural, it is heavily used as a trucking corridor, and is often used as a bypass of busier Interstates to the east such as I-95. For this reason, it is also used heavily by drug and human traffickers, as it is less monitored by law enforcement than the I-95. This led to the FBI forming a task force to combat the issue in 2017.
The Interstate 81 Corridor Coalition, a six-state coalition, was organized to handle issues along I-81, such as truck traffic and air pollution; the commission meets annually. I-81 is part of the fastest route between the capital of the United States (Washington, D.C.) and the capital of Canada (Ottawa).

St. Petersburg's most famous building, the Winter Palace not only physically dominates Palace Square and the south embankment of the Neva River, but also plays a central political, symbolic, and cultural role in the three-century history of the city.
The first Imperial residence on the site of the Winter Palace was a wooden house in the Dutch style built in 1708 for Peter the Great and his family. This was replaced in 1711 by a stone building, the remains of which formed the foundations of the Hermitage Theatre. Parts of this original palace have now been restored and are open to the public.
Empress Anna Ioannovna was the first of Peter's descendants to reconstruct the palace. In 1731, she commissioned Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli, the recently appointed court architect who would go on to become the recognized master of late baroque in Russia, to create a new, larger palace on the site. Completed in 1735, the third Winter Palace served for only 17 years before Rastrelli was again asked, this time by Empress Elizabeth (Elizaveta Petrovna), to expand the building. After two years proposing different plans to adapt the existing building, Rastrelli eventually decided to completely rebuild the palace, and his new design was confirmed by the empress in 1754.

Pirene or Peirene (Greek: Πειρήνη) is the name of a fountain or spring in Greek mythology, physically located in Corinth. It was said to be a favored watering-hole of Pegasus, sacred to the Muses. Poets would travel there to drink and receive inspiration.

On leaving the market-place along the road to Lechaeum you come to a gateway, on which are two gilded chariots, one carrying Phaethon the son of Helius, the other Helius himself. A little farther away from the gateway, on the right as you go in, is a bronze Heracles. After this is the entrance to the water of Peirene. The legend about Peirene is that she was a woman who became a spring because of her tears shed in lamentation for her son Cenchrias, who was unintentionally killed by Artemis. The spring is ornamented with white marble, and there have been made chambers like caves, out of which the water flows into an open-air well. It is pleasant to drink, and they say that the Corinthian bronze, when red-hot, is tempered by this water, since bronze […] the Corinthians have not. Moreover near Peirene are an image and a sacred enclosure of Apollo; in the latter is a painting of the exploit of Odysseus against the suitors.

“The death of Morris Ginsberg at the age of 81 does much more than sever a link with LSE going back in one form or another to 1911. Although physically frail in his latter years his mind was as powerful, as clear, as interested and as sceptical as ever down until the time of his death, an he was busily engaged in the planning of a new volume of essays. For long he has been the greatest British sociologist. During many years he had carried the burden of sociology in this country almost alone. What the subject has of rigour, order, clarity, scholarship, creative doubt and humane concern in 1970 is the legacy, above all of Ginsberg.
He was born in 1899 in one of the smaller communities of the Russian Empire. Coming to England as a lad he was fired by a faith in this country largely through reading a Hebrew translation of George Eliot’s Daniel Deronda – he always insisted that George Eliot read better in Hebrew, a thought that might have pleased that author. He performed brilliantly in philosophy at University College London, and became an authority on Melebranche – he published a translation of the Entretiens of 1688 in 1923. British critical realism attracted him and dominated the philosophical concerns that continued through his life. By 1911 he was drawn to LSE by Hobhouse and the new liberal sociology of Westermarck. The Manchester Guardian circle of these years deeply influenced his political outlook. In 1915 along with Hobhouse and Wheeler he published what is still a classic of comparative and statistical sociology. The Material Culture and Social Institutions of the Simpler Peoples. (Those who think of him as an essentially non-quantitative sociology should also remember his remarkable pioneering work of the 1920’s on social mobility.)
After war service – he was a sergeant engaged on the dangerous business of bringing ammunition-laden mule-teams up to the line on the Western Front – he returned to academic life in London, moving from University College (the Fellowship of which was one of his most prized honours) fully to LSE where in due course and one would think inevitably became the Martin White Professor of Sociology in succession to Hobhouse in 1929. He held this chair until 1954, but taught actively at the school even after retirement.
During these years he did important work in social psychology and in 1934 published his Sociology which in its brief compass, its learning in the European tradition of the subject, its succinct force, remains a classic. The crises of the 30’s actively involved him in the tasks of rescue and re-settlement of refugee scholars. When the School was evacuated to Cambridge during the second German war he carried with a success that was to leave him exhausted in 1945 an almost incredible range and burden of teaching. Yet on return to London he re-established and extended the LSE Department on the shoulders of which then rested the total responsibility for the development of sociology in Britain.
In all this the support and happiness of his marriage to Ethel Street made his tasks possible. Her long and tragic illness and death was to cloud his old age. His capacity for friendship, for kindness and concern was great and discriminating. He was shy and reserved, even bleak in manner, yet he was at heart warm and eminently practical. He did not fuss, so people under-estimated his human, scholarly and administrative achievements. With difficulty I persuaded him to publish the three volumes of his Essays in Sociology and Social Philosophy (1956-61). Their success delighted him. Their importance is not exhausted: spare in style, always clear, to many people they have seemed essentially critical and exegetical. But this is not the case. Too scrupulous in his debt to Hobhouse and Westermarck he concealed his own originality and wealth of analysis. He made much dangerous nonsense henceforth impossible. He greatly advanced a comparative and institutional sociology at once creative and highly disciplined. His concern with the quality of social life and his sense of rigour made him in my judgement almost the only social philosopher of our age.
The influence of his teaching, he was an almost perfect if austere lecturer, has been international. His rationalism, his short term pessimism and longer term hope annoyed the passionate and impatient. Yet they gained from his wise stoicism and deep concern. Next year’s Commonwealth Games offers a unique opportunity to inspire people across Scotland to be more physically active and create lasting legacy for the whole of Scotland.
Commonwealth Games Minister Shona Robison today (25 Nov 2013) visited Crown Primary School and the Inshes Adventure Playpark in Inverness, and Badaguish Outdoor Centre in Aviemore, to meet young people already benefiting from education and sporting opportunities resulting from the Games.
Ms Robison said,
“The Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next year offers a unique opportunity to inspire people across all of Scotland to become more physically active and create a lasting legacy for the whole of Scotland.
I’m delighted to be able to visit Inverness and Aviemore today, and meet with many of the young people and staff already benefiting from Legacy funding in the region. I look forward to visiting many more of these across Scotland over the next few months in the run up to the Games.”
The £10m Legacy Active Places Fund was launched in October 2012 by Ms Robison to enhance or increase opportunities for people to be more physically active.
Crown Primary School has an active sports culture that promotes health and wellbeing, it was awarded today the first Game on Scotland plaque, a recognition of its active engagement in the national education programme, which uses the Commonwealth Games to inspire pupils.
The Inshes Park was built following cash funding of £94,000 from the Scottish Government’s Legacy 2014 Active Places Fund and was developed with input from local youngsters.
The Speyside Trust who run the Badaguish Outdoor Centre was successful in its application for an award from the Legacy 2014 Active Places Fund. They will receive £50,375 towards a bike trail suitable for use of cycles for the disabled.

In order to keep the Senior Citizen active we can formulate certain recreational activities to keep them physically and mentally fit and keep them happy. We can try the following methodology whichever works depending upon the individual’s interest:
1. Seniors who are independent and active inside their home:
a. Explore the world via the world wide web- Computer games, facebook/twitter/emails/skype to stay connected with friends and families and make new friends with similar interests, whatsapp with friends and family, listen to the lectures/discourses/talks/songs of their interests in the computer or laptop with speakers attached
b. Start a Book Club – Read books with big fonts or magnifying glass or digital books with large fonts and discuss with the club members through a skype call or conference call about the characters in the book that they are focusing on.
c. Puzzle, board games ( chess, snake and ladder, chinese checker, scrabble),solitaire, jigsaw puzzle, carom board, cards etc.
d. Work from home if they are still able to do that for couple of hours a day
e. Write a letter or call someone and speak to them on several topics that are interesting for them.
f. Tinker- Able to fix little things at home and have a sense of fulfillment
g. Painting, drawing, home indoor gardening, listening to the music
h. Hire a care giver/companion to give company and have a partner to play several indoor games.

How Your Mindset Can Actually Make You Physically Stronger
Don’t believe that simply changing the way you think can have a big impact on your life or your accomplishments?
It’s a somewhat abstract concept to think that just being more positive or more driven can attract more good things to you, or that focussing more on the good in your life can make you happier.
So how about a demonstrate to show just how powerful the mind is? What if the brain could make you considerably stronger, simply if you change the way you think?
Introducing Hysterical Strength
Hysterical strength is a term used to describe historical examples of people tapping into incredible physical power. The most common story is that of mothers who have to rescue their children from being trapped under cars or some other heavy object. In these scenarios, the mothers call upon some kind of superhuman strength and manage to physically move the cars out the way. How can this be possible?
While this has never been proven, there actually is a good scientific explanation for how it might work and some evidence to support it.
That’s because we normally are only capable of accessing around 30%-50% of our muscle fiber. When exercising or going about our normal routines, we can’t use 100% of our strength because we would risk injuring our ligaments or exhausting ourselves. You can see this when someone gets an electrical shock – this causes the muscles to contract to their fullest which is enough to throw the individual right across the room!
But under times of incredible stress or in life-and-death scenarios, it might just be that the brain is able to tap into those hidden depths. This would work because of the release of stress hormones like cortisol, adrenaline and perhaps other neurotransmitters such as acetylcholine. Together, these could improve communication across the neuromuscular junction, thereby recruiting a greater number of muscle fibers and allowing the individual to access their ‘full’ strength.
Putting it Into Action
In theory then, you could gain more strength simply by imagining your family trapped under a car. If you could really believe it, then you might be able to access hidden strength enough to break your records in the gym.
But there are easier ways according to the research. That’s because yelling at the top of your voice just so happens to trigger a small stress response and studies demonstrate that this is enough to allow you to gain a little more strength during lifts! The oldest building of its kind in Manchester, it was built in 1552 next to the market square on what is now Market Street, in what was known as the Shambles. Changing.
Coming to terms with the realization that I'm not as perky as I perceive that I am...physically anyway. Sometimes I'll see a reflection of a tired looking woman when we're walking around the mall or in the village and then I have to take a stunned moment to realize she's me. Even without the less than perfect reflection I sense the shift: tight pants, lack of feet when gazing downward, chin not resting quite so flush on my chest when I droop my head, less elasticity in my skin. And then there's my abdomen, or as author Anne Lamott calls it, the sub-continent. Sheesh! what's up with that. (Nevermind that I love candy and late night bowls of cereal...)
I want to embrace aging, and do so gracefully as the old adage goes, but I'm having a bit of a hard time. I've always been a feisty one so this shouldn't be so shocking. I keep hearing the lines from 'Mr Jones and Me' (Counting Crows), "Wishin' I was someone just a little more funky... when everybody'd love me..."(sic-I'm sure I'm off- misquoting lyrics is a gift of mine :) I still feel funky, as in eclectic and cool, but man, I don't look it most days.
So anyway-all this to say I'm learning to readjust my view of who I am to accomodate the "more ample and character lined" me. I'm hoping this project will help me in doing so by making me comfortable enough in my skin so that I don't forget to let the light that dwells within out. Great grace has been given to me and I need to be more gracious to Him who has bestowed it. I can begin by not belittling the physical part of this creation that makes me, well...me.

The most physically beautiful people I have encountered live in Athens. The land of the Greek gods, legends and myths and the Acropolis, Athens' is a cosmopolitan landscape of bars and shopping. But this landscape bears nothing against its historic landscape of Seven Hills and majestic Parthenon.

But also I saved the photo the first time in 2008, I hesitated to paint it - I feared to fail with my Interpretation - And I never use one picture twice.
When I was cleaning up in my new flat, I found an old back of a cupboard - It´s edges were damaged, and it look old and dirty - This reminded me of the original photo and I decided it should be on this or never painted....
I dont know if I succeeded with my painting - but I hope so.

Unhealthy diet– The larger part of the food we eat are either fast foods or full of chemicals, sugar and other dangerous substances. We regularly consume bread, pastries, flour, bakes, fried foods, sugary desserts, processed, packaged foods, and drink unhealthy beverages like soft drinks.
No physical activity- The modern lifestyle is generally based on sitting, as we use machines for almost every single action during the day. We sit in front of computers for many hours, we have no time to walk in the park, or go to the gym. Moreover, almost all of us drive their own car, or catch a taxi, but we almost never walk.
Unhealthy lifestyle – insomnia, sleeping late, unpredictable working time, insomnia, etc.
Yet, people are often unaware whether they need to lose some weight or not. However, if you can notice that you have visible extra weight and do not feel comfortable anymore, you should implement some changes in your lifestyle.
You can check whether you are overweight or not with the help of the waist-to-hip (WTH) ratio and the fat percentage. These are established measuring procedures that will provide correct results.

This is actually a rather long lens (physically). It's too slow for me to get a good shot in the Nikon booth with the low lite at the show. I would like the working distance for nature based macro work. However overall I'd rather get the Micro Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G AF-S VR. It's super slow focusing. Big, and heavy. Expensive.
It was still a blistering hot evening and I was physically wilting when I approached St. Catherine's Church at Sacombe, near Little Munden in Herts. The church was locked (it was late) but a recent sign suggests it is open day times.

"There appears to have been a church in the parish in 1086, which may have been dedicated to St Mary. The present Anglican Church of St Catherine is largely 14th Century, but was restored in 1855/56. The parish of Sacombe is the smallest in the Diocese of St Albans, and forms part of the benefice of Standon and The Mundens with Sacombe, with worship shared between St Catherine's and churches at Little Munden and Standon."

"The church of St Catherine stands on high ground in the middle of the parish. The walls are faced with flint and the roofs are tiled. The church consists of a chancel, nave, north vestry and south tower. The original plan of the 14th-century church was the same as that of the present building, and the chancel and nave are of that date. The tower was rebuilt in 1855–6, and the north vestry was added at the same time, when the whole church was restored, faced with flint and re-roofed. A great part of the stonework of this church was brought from the demolished church of Thundridge.
All the doors and windows of the chancel and nave are modern. They have two-centred heads, the east and west windows being of three and the north and south windows of two lights with 'decorated' tracery. These pictures from Gansu province were taken during a nine-day trip in May 2015. Gansu is a province at the geographical heart of China. Its capital, Lanzhou, is pretty close to the center of the country as can be from what I can tell by looking at maps.
Gansu, though, is most certainly considered west China by the Chinese. Physically, the province reminds me of a small dumbbell sitting on an angle. There’s a southern (southeastern) section that is slightly large and has a high elevation (often between 2,000-3,000 meters) with a higher concentration of Muslims and Tibetans than most other areas of China. When you get closer to Xiahe, where Labrang Monastery is located, road signs are both in Tibetan and Mandarin. The LP 2011 had listed three places of interest in southern Gansu: Milarepa Palace in Hezuo, Labrang Monstery in Xiahe (listed as one of the 30 “Must Dos” in China), and Langmusi down on the Sichuan border. I had originally intended to visit all three places, but ended up dropping Langmusi – the Alpine village – and spending an extra day out west.
So all told in the south, I spent a few overcast hours in Hezuo at Milarepa Palace (as quirky as I recall LP saying it is, but also something I could have done without) before spending two nights at the Overseas Tibetan Hotel about 100 meters outside the eastern gate of Labrang Monastery in Xiahe. Xiahe was mesmerizing to me. It reminded me a little of some western US towns: one wide, main street that runs the length of town and most of the buildings are two- or three-story establishments.
Xiahe is around 3,300 meters in elevation, so altitude sickness is mentioned a few times, though I never experienced any type of nausea. I have nothing but good things to say about the hotel (not extravagant, but nice and comfortable beds), the owner (Lohsang Amso – a good man – who can also arrange bike rental, local and regional travel, etc.) and the good folks a few doors down at the Snowy Mountain Cafe – which seems to only be open in the evening – but where you can eat yak…which I did. One night, I had Nepalese yak curry (Nepalese chicken curry the other night). Other than that, I was amazed at how close (and countless) the stars in the night sky seemed to be, but given the altitude and lack of surface light, it wasn’t unexpected…just amazing.
Having spent the previous day on a morning flight from Chengdu to Lanzhou (one provincial capital to another), an hour bus ride from Lanzhou Airport downtown, another 45 minute taxi ride across town (through horrendous traffic), a 4 hour bus ride from Lanzhou down to southern Gansu that ended in Hezuo, an hour or two at Milarepa Palace in Hezuo, then finally another 1-2 hour bus from Hezuo to Xiahe, I finally found myself plopping down on my bed at the Overseas Tibetan…sometime in early evening.
Though things didn’t go exactly as planned, they were close enough and I really had no complaints. My biggest surprise was the number of mosques I saw en route to Xiahe. (I hadn’t realized that the Muslim population in this particular region was quite so large.)
Upon waking the following morning – it was a Monday, I recall – I made the incredibly short walk to the Labrang Monastery. Labrang Monastery is a fascinating place. It was founded in 1709 by Ngagong Tsunde (first generation of the third in line behind the Dalai and Panchen Lamas). It is one of the six major monasteries of the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat sect) order of Tibetan Buddhism. Three of the other six are near Lhasa, one near Shigatse, and the other near Xining (Qinghai province).
This is the largest Tibetan Buddhist temple (if I remember reading correctly) outside Tibet. To walk the entire kora (circumference of the temple with prayer wheels) is over a 3 km endeavor, which I undertook on that Monday morning.
It was a pleasant walk, rife with photographic opportunities – people don’t mind having their pictures taken, though the Tibetan monks…not so much. They had to give their permission, and usually didn’t want to, which was fine by me. Around the back (north) side of the monastery, there’s an outer kora trail up the mountain that would give a nice view, but I was frankly too lazy to take it (and didn’t find it, anyway).
And the people. Photographing people here (monks or otherwise) is just…a treasure trove waiting to happen. Regarding the monks living here, there apparently used to be about four thousand, but limits have been set to around 1,800 now. (All I’ll say is, like most places in China, the Cultural Revolution was none too kind...)
After walking the kora, I hung out at Everest Cafe (Lohsang’s restaurant at the Overseas Tibetan) for a no frills breakfast, then spent the remainder of the morning with a tour of the interior of the temple and wandering around the grounds. The monastery has a few different temples, monastic colleges, living residences…it’s really quite a large compound.
The day had started sunny, but by sundown was turning pretty cloudy, so no great sunset shots to be had here, and it was getting a bit chilly in the evening at that altitude, so as soon as it was evident there wouldn’t be any more shooting, I went on over to Snowy Mountain for a relaxing dinner alone before retiring to my room for the night. Tuesday morning found me on another long travel day via bus, taxi, and train…to the opposite side of the province: western Gansu province, which was almost like another planet.

“The death of Morris Ginsberg at the age of 81 does much more than sever a link with LSE going back in one form or another to 1911. Although physically frail in his latter years his mind was as powerful, as clear, as interested and as sceptical as ever down until the time of his death, an he was busily engaged in the planning of a new volume of essays. For long he has been the greatest British sociologist. During many years he had carried the burden of sociology in this country almost alone. What the subject has of rigour, order, clarity, scholarship, creative doubt and humane concern in 1970 is the legacy, above all of Ginsberg.
He was born in 1899 in one of the smaller communities of the Russian Empire. Coming to England as a lad he was fired by a faith in this country largely through reading a Hebrew translation of George Eliot’s Daniel Deronda – he always insisted that George Eliot read better in Hebrew, a thought that might have pleased that author. He performed brilliantly in philosophy at University College London, and became an authority on Melebranche – he published a translation of the Entretiens of 1688 in 1923. British critical realism attracted him and dominated the philosophical concerns that continued through his life. By 1911 he was drawn to LSE by Hobhouse and the new liberal sociology of Westermarck. The Manchester Guardian circle of these years deeply influenced his political outlook. In 1915 along with Hobhouse and Wheeler he published what is still a classic of comparative and statistical sociology. The Material Culture and Social Institutions of the Simpler Peoples. (Those who think of him as an essentially non-quantitative sociology should also remember his remarkable pioneering work of the 1920’s on social mobility.)
After war service – he was a sergeant engaged on the dangerous business of bringing ammunition-laden mule-teams up to the line on the Western Front – he returned to academic life in London, moving from University College (the Fellowship of which was one of his most prized honours) fully to LSE where in due course and one would think inevitably became the Martin White Professor of Sociology in succession to Hobhouse in 1929. He held this chair until 1954, but taught actively at the school even after retirement.
During these years he did important work in social psychology and in 1934 published his Sociology which in its brief compass, its learning in the European tradition of the subject, its succinct force, remains a classic. The crises of the 30’s actively involved him in the tasks of rescue and re-settlement of refugee scholars. When the School was evacuated to Cambridge during the second German war he carried with a success that was to leave him exhausted in 1945 an almost incredible range and burden of teaching. Yet on return to London he re-established and extended the LSE Department on the shoulders of which then rested the total responsibility for the development of sociology in Britain.
In all this the support and happiness of his marriage to Ethel Street made his tasks possible. Her long and tragic illness and death was to cloud his old age. His capacity for friendship, for kindness and concern was great and discriminating. He was shy and reserved, even bleak in manner, yet he was at heart warm and eminently practical. He did not fuss, so people under-estimated his human, scholarly and administrative achievements. With difficulty I persuaded him to publish the three volumes of his Essays in Sociology and Social Philosophy (1956-61). Their success delighted him. Their importance is not exhausted: spare in style, always clear, to many people they have seemed essentially critical and exegetical. But this is not the case. Too scrupulous in his debt to Hobhouse and Westermarck he concealed his own originality and wealth of analysis. He made much dangerous nonsense henceforth impossible. He greatly advanced a comparative and institutional sociology at once creative and highly disciplined. His concern with the quality of social life and his sense of rigour made him in my judgement almost the only social philosopher of our age.
The influence of his teaching, he was an almost perfect if austere lecturer, has been international. His rationalism, his short term pessimism and longer term hope annoyed the passionate and impatient. Yet they gained from his wise stoicism and deep concern. His humour was private and not always kind, but it was without malice. (How, he reflected, could Malinowski have found more to say about the Trobriands than Gibbon on the fall of Rome?) His loyalty to those he loved never faltered. There is so much that one has no room to say here about him: suffice it to establish that he was one of those who made his subject out of stubborn fact and complexity, made the LSE both unique and great among institutions of higher learning, and who helped his friends and students to endure.”

I chose to physically link Churchill and Eisenhower's booklets through the use of a z-bind because from reading both speeches it became apparent that there were many similarities between them. I felt joining them together would further highlight this. They have been printed on the same stock GF Smith Cranes Lettra 120gsm, as I felt the papers rough texture made it feel slightly cheap which was important for both booklets concepts. I stitched the booklets together as this is a cheap production method.
Even the disabled should be physically and socially mobile.
Spain has a long way to go to making itself wheelchair friendly, its streets have high kerb stones, narrow footpaths and poor surfaces in places. Just look at the kerb stone in this photo.
However, I have noticed that things are getting better over the last few years.
This man is lucky enough to have a powered attachment that get him around. This represents a serious mobility investment by himself (or by someone else) - these things can be very expensive. Every disabled person deserves the right to lead as normal a life as possible.

In contrast to the delicate, girlish, "warmhearted", feminine half-lenght figures of Titian and Palma Vecchio, the painter presents here an ideal of beauty which appears cool, artificial, aggressive both physically and psychologically - it could indeed be described as Mannerist. The spatially constricting architectural backdrop also suggests this phase of Venetian painting, as does the hint at a "bashful Venus", the charms of which are, however, provocatively revealed.

The Kunsthistorisches Museum (KHM abbreviated) is an art museum in Vienna. It is one of the largest and most important museums in the world. It was opened in 1891 and 2012 visited of 1.351.940 million people.
The museum
The Kunsthistorisches Museum is with its opposite sister building, the Natural History Museum (Naturhistorisches Museum), the most important historicist large buildings of the Ringstrasse time. Together they stand around the Maria Theresa square, on which also the Maria Theresa monument stands. This course spans the former glacis between today's ring road and 2-line, and is forming a historical landmark that also belongs to World Heritage Site Historic Centre of Vienna.

The Museum came from the collections of the Habsburgs, especially from the portrait and armor collections of Ferdinand of Tyrol, the collection of Emperor Rudolf II (most of which, however scattered) and the art collection of Archduke Leopold Wilhelm into existence. Already In 1833 asked Joseph Arneth, curator (and later director) of the Imperial Coins and Antiquities Cabinet, bringing together all the imperial collections in a single building .
Architectural History
The contract to build the museum in the city had been given in 1858 by Emperor Franz Joseph. Subsequently, many designs were submitted for the ring road zone. Plans by August Sicard von Sicardsburg and Eduard van der Null planned to build two museum buildings in the immediate aftermath of the Imperial Palace on the left and right of the Heroes' Square (Heldenplatz). The architect Ludwig Förster planned museum buildings between the Schwarzenberg Square and the City Park, Martin Ritter von Kink favored buildings at the corner Währingerstraße/ Scots ring (Schottenring), Peter Joseph, the area Bellariastraße, Moritz von Loehr the south side of the opera ring, and Ludwig Zettl the southeast side of the grain market (Getreidemarkt).
From 1867, a competition was announced for the museums, and thereby set their current position - at the request of the Emperor, the museum should not be too close to the Imperial Palace, but arise beyond the ring road. The architect Carl von Hasenauer participated in this competition and was able the at that time in Zürich operating Gottfried Semper to encourage to work together. The two museum buildings should be built here in the sense of the style of the Italian Renaissance. The plans got the benevolence of the imperial family. In April 1869, there was an audience with of Joseph Semper at the Emperor Franz Joseph and an oral contract was concluded, in July 1870 was issued the written order to Semper and Hasenauer.
Crucial for the success of Semper and Hasenauer against the projects of other architects were among others Semper's vision of a large building complex called "Imperial Forum", in which the museums would have been a part of. Not least by the death of Semper in 1879 came the Imperial Forum not as planned for execution, the two museums were built, however.
Construction of the two museums began without ceremony on 27 November 1871 instead. Semper moved to Vienna in the sequence. From the beginning, there were considerable personal differences between him and Hasenauer, who finally in 1877 took over sole construction management. 1874, the scaffolds were placed up to the attic and the first floor completed, built in 1878, the first windows installed in 1879, the Attica and the balustrade from 1880 to 1881 and built the dome and the Tabernacle. The dome is topped with a bronze statue of Pallas Athena by Johannes Benk.
The lighting and air conditioning concept with double glazing of the ceilings made the renunciation of artificial light (especially at that time, as gas light) possible, but this resulted due to seasonal variations depending on daylight to different opening times .

The Kunsthistorisches Museum was on 17 October 1891 officially opened by Emperor Franz Joseph I. Since 22 October 1891 , the museum is accessible to the public. Two years earlier, on 3 November 1889, the collection of arms, Arms and Armour today, had their doors open. On 1 January 1890 the library service resumed its operations. The merger and listing of other collections of the Highest Imperial Family from the Upper and Lower Belvedere, the Hofburg Palace and Ambras in Tyrol will need another two years.

Very soon the room the Court Museum (Hofmuseum) for the imperial collections was offering became too narrow. To provide temporary help, an exhibition of ancient artifacts from Ephesus in the Theseus Temple was designed. However, additional space had to be rented in the Lower Belvedere.
1914, after the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, heir to the throne, his " Estonian Forensic Collection " passed to the administration of the Court Museum. This collection, which emerged from the art collection of the house of d' Este and world travel collection of Franz Ferdinand, was placed in the New Imperial Palace since 1908. For these stocks, the present collection of old musical instruments and the Museum of Ethnology emerged.
The First World War went by, apart from the oppressive economic situation without loss. The farm museum remained during the five years of war regularly open to the public.
Until 1919 the K.K. Art Historical Court Museum was under the authority of the Oberstkämmereramt (head chamberlain office) and belonged to the House of Habsburg-Lorraine. The officials and employees were part of the royal household.
First Republic
The transition from monarchy to republic, in the museum took place in complete tranquility. On 19 November 1918 the two imperial museums on Maria Theresa Square were placed under the state protection of the young Republic of German Austria. Threatening to the stocks of the museum were the claims raised in the following weeks and months of the "successor states" of the monarchy as well as Italy and Belgium on Austrian art collection. In fact, it came on 12th February 1919 to the violent removal of 62 paintings by armed Italian units. This "art theft" left a long time trauma among curators and art historians.
It was not until the Treaty of Saint-Germain of 10 September 1919, providing in Article 195 and 196 the settlement of rights in the cultural field by negotiations. The claims of Belgium, Czechoslovakia, and Italy again could mostly being averted in this way. Only Hungary, which presented the greatest demands by far, was met by more than ten years of negotiation in 147 cases.
On 3 April 1919 was the expropriation of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine by law and the acquisition of its property, including the "Collections of the Imperial House" , by the Republic. Of 18 June 1920 the then provisional administration of the former imperial museums and collections of Este and the secular and clergy treasury passed to the State Office of Internal Affairs and Education, since 10 November 1920, the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Education. A few days later it was renamed the Art History Court Museum in the "Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna State", 1921 "Kunsthistorisches Museum" . Of 1st January 1921 the employees of the museum staff passed to the state of the Republic.
Through the acquisition of the former imperial collections owned by the state, the museum found itself in a complete new situation. In order to meet the changed circumstances in the museum area, designed Hans Tietze in 1919 the "Vienna Museum program". It provided a close cooperation between the individual museums to focus at different houses on main collections. So dominated exchange, sales and equalizing the acquisition policy in the interwar period. Thus resulting until today still valid collection trends. Also pointing the way was the relocation of the weapons collection from 1934 in its present premises in the New Castle, where since 1916 the collection of ancient musical instruments was placed.
With the change of the imperial collections in the ownership of the Republic the reorganization of the internal organization went hand in hand, too. Thus the museum was divided in 1919 into the Egyptian and Near Eastern Collection (with the Oriental coins)

The Museum 1938-1945
Count Philipp Ludwig Wenzel Sinzendorf according to Rigaud. Clarisse 1948 by Baroness de Rothschildt "dedicated" to the memory of Baron Alphonse de Rothschildt; restituted to the Rothschilds in 1999, and in 1999 donated by Bettina Looram Rothschild, the last Austrian heiress.
With the "Anschluss" of Austria to the German Reich all Jewish art collections such as the Rothschilds were forcibly "Aryanised". Collections were either "paid" or simply distributed by the Gestapo at the museums. This resulted in a significant increase in stocks. But the KHM was not the only museum that benefited from the linearization. Systematically looted Jewish property was sold to museums, collections or in pawnshops throughout the empire.
After the war, the museum struggled to reimburse the "Aryanised" art to the owners or their heirs. They forced the Rothschild family to leave the most important part of their own collection to the museum and called this "dedications", or "donations". As a reason, was the export law stated, which does not allow owners to perform certain works of art out of the country. Similar methods were used with other former owners. Only on the basis of international diplomatic and media pressure, to a large extent from the United States, the Austrian government decided to make a change in the law (Art Restitution Act of 1998, the so-called Lex Rothschild). The art objects were the Rothschild family refunded only in the 1990s.
The Kunsthistorisches Museum operates on the basis of the federal law on the restitution of art objects from the 4th December 1998 (Federal Law Gazette I, 181 /1998) extensive provenance research. Even before this decree was carried out in-house provenance research at the initiative of the then archive director Herbert Haupt. This was submitted in 1998 by him in collaboration with Lydia Grobl a comprehensive presentation of the facts about the changes in the inventory levels of the Kunsthistorisches Museum during the Nazi era and in the years leading up to the State Treaty of 1955, an important basis for further research provenance.
The two historians Susanne Hehenberger and Monika Löscher are since 1st April 2009 as provenance researchers at the Kunsthistorisches Museum on behalf of the Commission for Provenance Research operating and they deal with the investigation period from 1933 to the recent past.
The museum today
Today the museum is as a federal museum, with 1st January 1999 released to the full legal capacity - it was thus the first of the state museums of Austria, implementing the far-reaching self-financing. It is by far the most visited museum in Austria with 1.3 million visitors (2007).
The Kunsthistorisches Museum is under the name Kunsthistorisches Museum and Museum of Ethnology and the Austrian Theatre Museum with company number 182081t since 11 June 1999 as a research institution under public law of the Federal virtue of the Federal Museums Act, Federal Law Gazette I/115/1998 and the Museum of Procedure of the Kunsthistorisches Museum and Museum of Ethnology and the Austrian Theatre Museum, 3 January 2001, BGBl II 2/ 2001, in force since 1 January 2001, registered.
In fiscal 2008, the turnover was 37.185 million EUR and total assets amounted to EUR 22.204 million. In 2008 an average of 410 workers were employed.

The daughter and her children lead me to this remote cave house and her mother dreams of leaving this dwelling as it is now the trend to move into modern, concrete houses or soulless appartment blocks, whereas this house is more spacious but many neighbours have already left...

Do you see anything in here about what you’re doing, or not doing? No, you do not. Why???? Because the GOSPEL THAT SAVES, has NOTHING to do with YOU, it’s about what CHRIST ALONE HAS DONE, FOR US!
See the GOSPEL THAT HAS THE POWER TO SAVE, IS ABOUT LIFTING CHRIST UP, NOT “YOU”, OR “ME”.
What did Jesus say regarding this matter? 32 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto myself. (John 12:32) Jesus was physically lifted up on the cross, SALVATION is about Jesus, not us. Are we getting that message in our “churches” today? NO, they make EVERYTHING ABOUT WHAT WE ARE DOING OR NOT DOING. THEY HAVE IN FACT PERVERTED THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST, for the most part. That is in point of fact what religious institutions do. In their minds, it's much more important what YOU are doing than what Jesus has done. Because their objective is, CONTROL. The most important thing they want YOU to do, is throw money at them. Because their ministry is the way they make their living on the backs of the people, just like the government does. Notice the similarity?
God say's he wants us to be controlled by HIS LOVE, not man. But by the Spirit of God, that comes to live in us when we come to FAITH in JESUS.
God say's, "freely you have received, freely give." Religion does't do anything for free, in fact they lie to you for a life time keeping dependent on them, never on Jesus. It's really just another form of servitude, to an organization rather than the one who died for you, so he could set you free. Because when God himself lives in you, you have NO NEED for man to rule over you, which I believe is the main reason they don't want you to know truth. But then, they'd have to know what truth was before they could share it with YOU. But God also tells us that, "those people have been robbed of the truth."
Do you see anything in the Gospel about, Asking for Forgiveness, Water Baptism, Babbling in Tongues, Going to church on Saturday, Tithing (that’s the real purpose), Circumcision, Slaying people in the spirit, Building funds, or whatever else your particular denomination is PUSHING this week? NO YOU DO NOT. Which is why God hates RELIGION, and Denominationalism of any kind. God saves SINNERS, not denominations, or religions. Salvation is about FAITH IN HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST THE ONE THAT DID IT ALL FOR US, BECAUSE WE COULD DO NOTHING OF OURSELVES. Pride, just hates the fact that they are left out of the equation. Ego say’s, this has to be about big important wonderful ME! IT’S NOT ABOUT US, NONE OF IT!
What does God have to say about this;
1 You foolish Galatians! WHO HAS BEWITCHED YOU? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. 2 I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? 3 Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort? 4 Have you suffered so much for nothing--if it really was for nothing? 5 Does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you because you observe the law, or because you BELIEVE what you heard? (Galatians 3:1-5)
Are we so “FOOLISH” (STUPID) we can be conned into believing this is about anything we can accomplish in the energy of our FLESH, because some pastor, preacher, teacher, lecturer, self-important con-artist, has BEWITCHED YOU, meaning of which is, “cast an evil spell on you” gained control over your mind, captivated, enchanted, entranced, enraptured, charmed, beguiled, or deceived you into believing a LIE. Check this out, if this doesn’t open our eye’s NOTHING WILL!

Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to PERVERT THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST. 8 BUT IF WE OR AN ANGEL FROM HEAVEN SHOULD PREACH A GOSPEL OTHER THAN THE ONE WE PREACHED TO YOU, LET HIM BE ETERNALLY CONDEMNED! 9 AS WE HAVE ALREADY SAID, SO NOW I SAY AGAIN: IF ANYBODY IS PREACHING TO YOU A GOSPEL OTHER THAN WHAT YOU ACCEPTED, LET HIM BE ETERNALLY CONDEMNED! (Galatians 1:6-9)
So how serious is this folks? Paul the “APOSTLE OF GRACE” is saying if anybody is adding anything to the gospel, LET HIM OR HER, ROT IN HELL FOR ETERNITY! I’m paraphrasing here. So you can see just how serious God considers this issue. So it had better be that serious to us as well, if we don’t want to be eternally condemned! Can I get a AMEN, here? I'm thrilled by the love the Father has for us, and his Son, Jesus Christ the only righteous one.
Remember, God is a jealous God, he will not allow the credit do his Son, to be shared with mere men. The very Son of God did something. But man wants to make it all about him, God is not going to allow that to happen, no bait and switch here folks, it's ALL JESUS, OR NOTHING AT ALL. Put your Faith in God the Son! NO faith in ourselves or any man can do to add to the blood of Jesus, and the POWER of his RESURRECTION.

With no agricultural background, Dr. Panda has developed unique natural bonsai in his Vijnana Bana Ashram which also shows path for earning just by uprooting and nurturing the plants which are found to be small and thumb in nature.
