Shelter Dogs

The food for the dogs must be prepared, this is done over an open fire and wood is needed. Like most jobs at the shelter it is physically demanding work without any aids.

Every day, all the year round, the people at the shelter takes care of 150-200 dogs; cooking, feeding, cleaning, giving nursing care of the animals. The staff has dedicated their lives to giving these animals a second chance, some of them giving up successful careers to spend all their time looking after the welfare of the animals.

Apart from dogs there are cats, cows and buffalos, just to mention some of the species living at the shelter. The shelter also works to reduce the stray dog population by their catch-neuter-return program.

vspca.org is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). To conduct their business the shelter is dependent on donations for medication, food and maintenance of the facility. So why not give the animals in Visakhaptnam a christmas gift? vspca.org/donate/

The evening has advanced, here in the hermitage, the time has come in the regular rhythm of my days for my moments of contemplation at the day’s end. These moments of the evening are also my ministry of “spiritual solidarity” with those who are far away—not just physically, but also spiritually. At those moments may I pray for at a least an “intimation of the presence” for one of those for whom God remains utterly hidden and who do not call God by name?

This is about the highest point in Upper Coquetdale in Northumberland. Physically and historically one of the wildest places in England.

Riding a motorcycle is more physically demanding than driving a car because it requires full-body coordination, balance, and constant engagement. Motorcyclists must use their entire body to steer, shift gears, and maintain stability, especially at low speeds or on uneven terrain. Unlike car drivers, who sit comfortably with minimal movement, riders must brace against wind resistance, manage changing road conditions, and remain alert to maintain control and safety. This level of physical involvement makes motorcycle riding a much more active and demanding experience.

Our weather has been calm since the most severe storms that our county has seen with flash flooding and mudslides. Thankfully no one was physically injured, but I am sure it will be an experience that some will never forget.

I have been trying to deal with everything going on, on my own, and it's been killing me. I really needed a hug. Just a hug.

The other photos were a bonus while just hanging out, lol... but, I am glad that I could count on Francis for a hug. Poor guy, landed, and I was on him. In a PG way, you pervs lol.

But, seriously. In RL, I am in pain.. physically, and emotionally, and I am dealing on my own. I know my family is there but, they are going through their own stuff. RL and SL included.

And I am confused about stuff in SL.

So ty again to Francis. I needed this. Hugs.

If someone ques up "you got a friend in me" I am going to punch you. lol

Europe, France, PACA, Toulon, Harbour, French navy, Suffren D602 (slightly cut from T)

Shown here is the decommissioned Suffren D602 destroyer. It is there to physically shield the maintenance dock of the nuclear aircraft carrier ‘Charles de Gaulle‘, the flagship of the French navy.

A function true to the original purpose of the Suffren: the protection of the fleet at sea against sea and air threats. Suffren is a guided-missile destroyer (built in 1961), with its eye-catching DRBI-23B 3D radar dome. It was propelled by two steam turbines offering 72.000 hp, was modernized in ´70, ´78 and ´88 and decommissioned in 2001.

Shot from a tour boat operated by`Les Bataliers de la Rade‘. Like on many tour boats, the guide had a keen sense of ironic political humour. Almost as sharp as the master of the genre, a tour boat guide in Berlin ;-)

On our recent stroll in Old Montreal, I couldn't help but notice that the back of this building had a striking resemblance to the cover of Led Zeppelin's "Physical Graffiti".

Sufi whirling (or Sufi turning) is a form of physically active meditation that originated among certain Sufi groups and is still practiced by the Sufi Dervishes of the Mevlevi order. It is a customary meditation practice performed within the Sema, or worship ceremony, through which dervishes aim to reach a greater connection with Allah. This is sought through abandoning one's ego or personal desires by listening to music, focusing on God, and spinning one's body in repetitive circles, which has been seen as a symbolic imitation of planets in the Solar System orbiting the Sun.

Very cold temperature of -10 Celsius on this morning but about -18 C with windchill factored in. The sun was out briefly when I arrived but soon enough clouds and a lake effect snow flurry passed overhead.

It was very chilly on the hands for taking photos! Even with gloves it was hard to press the shutter when I left! And in these covid times there is no public facing buildings open at the Niagara Parks to warm up in. Everything is closed. Thankfully we can still go outside for exercise, keeping all of the pandemic protocols in mind such as avoiding crowds, keeping physically distanced, and wearing masks. Despite the cold, winter is a uniquely beautiful time of year and it was good to be outside both mentally and physically. The wonder of nature always makes me feel better!

When an alga and fungus physically intertwine in a very close symbiotic relationship, they actually form an entirely new growth called lichen. Lichen is a kind of primitive plant species that's nothing more than strands of alga linked with roots and branches of a fungus that together absorb minerals from the ground and conduct photosynthesis. They can grow almost anywhere, from moist bark to recently cooled lava to frozen rocks.

Unlike most parasitic or symbiotic relationships, when a fungus and alga grow together so tightly they can't be separated, they qualify as a different kind of material. Biologists have agreed that lichen straddles the monera and fungi kingdoms of living things since it is part one and part another. Its body, called a thallus, can be made of different types of fungi and blue-green algae, which will determine how much water it needs or to what it can attach.

The alga, called the physobiont, contains chlorophyll, so it can photosynthesize energy that it passes onto the fungus. The mycobiant, the fungus, has roots that leech minerals and water from rocks or plants that it, in turn, passes onto the alga. This allows the new growth to thrive in a greater diversity of climates than either algae or fungi do alone. It can even dry out during drought and reconstitute itself when the rains come.

Souvenir shops in the Old Townn of Mostar :)

Mostar is a city and the administrative center of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, situated on the Neretva River. The most important monument of Mostar is the 16th-century stone Old Bridge located in the center. The Old Bridge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, built by the Ottomans, is one of Bosnia and Herzegovina's most visited landmarks, and is considered an exemplary piece of Islamic architecture in the Balkans. Human settlements on the river Neretva have existed since prehistory. In 1468 the region came under Ottoman rule and the urbanization of the settlement began. The town was fortified between the years 1520 and 1566, and the wooden bridge rebuilt in stone. Austria-Hungary took control over Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1878 and ruled the region until the aftermath of World War I in 1918, when it became part of the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs and then Yugoslavia. After Bosnia and Herzegovina declared independence from Yugoslavia in April 1992, the town was besieged by the Yugoslav People's Army. Two wars (Serb forces versus Bosniak and Croatian and Croat-Bosniak war) left Mostar physically devastated and ethno-territorially divided between a Croat-majority west bank and a Bosniak-majority old City and east bank, with the frontline running parallel to the Neretva River. Since the end of the war in 1995, great progress has been made in the reconstruction of the city of Mostar. In July 2005, UNESCO inscribed the Old Bridge and its closest vicinity onto the World Heritage List.

Sklepy z pamiątkami na starówce w Mostarze :)

Mostar – miasto w Bośni i Hercegowinie, stolica kantonu hercegowińsko-neretwiańskiego, położony nad Neretwą. Stanowi jeden z największych ośrodków miejskich w kraju. Najważniejszym zabytkiem Mostaru jest położony w centrum XVI-wieczny kamienny Stary Most. W XVI wieku Turcy założyli tu twierdzę, a w 1566 roku dotychczasowy drewniany most został zastąpiony kamiennym, który znany jako Stary Most.

I’ve had several people ask if I’ll be shooting the partial lunar eclipse overnight. The answer is no. I can’t physically move my telescope due to my still healing ankle, and it is happening at 3am. Also, it is a PARTIAL eclipse. I’d make it happen if it was going to be a total lunar eclipse, but I’ll just wait until May for that month’s total lunar eclipse!

(Great Sand Dunes NP, Colorado)

Sunlight wedges the fabric of the storm system, stalled this morning below the peaks of the Sangre de Cristo. It lights an incongruous desert that nestles comfortably, cupped against a bend in the wall of summits. All that sand, waiting to be scattered, trapped by the range until eternity wears it down. Yesterday we watched as clouds let loose gray/black curtains of water randomly over the vast prairie of the San Luis Valley, sometimes on the dunes, and sometimes on us. I can see part of that cloud mass to the north, obliterating the mountains; the rest is above my head, the source of the shadow I walk through. I have come here enough times here that it has become a pilgrimage for me, although most of my images are from ridges and mounds. I am surrounded by foot steps. The sand holds the divots of shoes in almost every conceivable square foot it seems. Farther out, they deface the windward and leeward slopes. Even the dune field itself rises in steps, sand ramps to navigate like giant switchbacks. Behind me, my own tracks dog me. Physically and figuratively, I have a long and twisted journey to this series of exposures. Wild places exist in degrees of remoteness, and I long for the days when they were more pristine, less trampled. Ever pragmatic, I subtract myself from culpability in that. The wind starts up in earnest, blowing sand off the crests, raging against human progress. For a moment I linger here in the shadows, grateful I will soon be in the light.

Inside and out.....go on once you start to see your beautiful bits it snowballs 😁....I'm not talking physically - though my Nanna used to say the more beautiful you are inside the more your beauty shows in your face....I've always struggled with people's perceptions that I'm too nice - innately I couldn't be any other way....yes I've had to learn there's a difference between good and nice, good; fair, just, truthful, vulnerable, compassionate to oneself as well as others, coming from a place of love ♥

The snow today made me feel beautiful inside, it gave me a childlike awe after so much sadness, a lightness as well as a heaviness of soaking clothes, wet feet and numb extremities - a freedom of me-ness ♥

I hadn't been able to listen to familiar songs over christmas - I did find one new one but as I ran the bath to thaw out a bit I really listened to the words of one christmas piece that's accompanied all my Christmas's since I was 16....a song that I so wanted to be for me - so today I sang it to myself. It doesn't matter if people think I'm too nice or a complete bit*h, I'm beginning to let myself whatever myself may be.

You may not be here physically, but your spirit and memories live on through everyone you've impacted. Happy Father's Day Pops. I love you.

Last night I had a dream..... It was morningish time and I was going through some of my mom's things and I felt her there. And she was there. Physically. I didn't think much of it at first. It was almost like she was passively there. She was younger looking, white gown. Healthy. But I knew she was actually gone. She was sitting on a chair in the yard, telling me of a jewelry place to go to get the rings appraised I don't remember the name now. It was like...almost a memory was playing before my eyes, but relevant to the conversation i was having with my RL husband in the dream. I went to her, and said "what is this? You bored up there?" As to assume heaven was boring and she needed entertainment. Then suddenly....she looked at me. And she was there in that moment for real. And she started singing. Loudly. Full orchestra in my ears as well like in a movie. The song was My Heart will go on. Cliche I know. I started with her....she rose, hovering, never taking her eyes off me. And we sang together as she rose further...and then away until my voice was the only one left....and I woke up. It was the most heartbreakingly beautiful dream I have ever experienced. I sit here, needing to purge and break through. I believe she gave me a gift last night. She will always be with me, even though she is no longer on this Earth. She finally said goodbye....for now.

Happy Birthday to my second born child, Arisa. I wish you happiness, good health, abundance, the knowledge that you are loved and much laughter.

HBM! It was sunny but cold (-9 C) and I took a brisk walk in the Humber Bay Shores area. I felt so energized when I returned home.

Thanks for visiting and doing your part to physically distance, wear a mask. #BeKind

Hi There!

I wouldn't have believed it until I saw this happen, but the parent physically corrected this very cheeky gosling not once, but twice, the second time causing the gosling to fall over. I am not certain what the gosling did wrong, but it was certainly something very naughty. I've always been fascinated by bird and animal behaviour, so it was fascinating to watch all of this transpire.

After the two "adjustments," the gosling looked as cheeky as ever, but kept its distance from the family. I guess this was the "Wild Child!"

I want to thank you for your views and your comments. I do love hearing from you! Have a great weekend!

When mammals drink water it is transported by muscular movements in the right direction to the stomach. This is why it is physically possible (though difficult) to drink water while standing on our heads. Most birds lack this ability and have to tilt their heads back in order to swallow. So this Crossbill is in the act of swallowing a beakful of water. Pigeons are a rare example of birds that can swallow with their heads down.

Birds also vary in their need to drink water as some birds get the water they need from their food. But Crossbills have a diet largely of dry seeds, so need a ready source of water. Often the best photographs of Crossbills are while they are drinking at pools as they spend most of their time high in conifers obscured by foliage. I managed to capture this female Crossbill taking a drink by a small, mossy cascade. She was wading into the water while drinking. This was near Holmfirth in West Yorkshire.

“When you take these kinds of shots, you really get the sensation that you are physically ‘shooting’ something.” - Daidō Moriyama, How I Take Photographs (2010). p.138

The legendary Japanese photographer Daidō Moriyama has been pushing the boundaries of photo-taking since the early 1960s. He is absolutely devoted to the snapshot, seeing it as the truest form of photography – spontaneous, and the perfect reaction to whatever possibilities the moment throws up at you. That’s the mantra he takes to the streets with his simple point and shoot cameras. His work is messy, grainy, full of dark contrast and crazy angles, and it is absolutely brilliant. He always surprises. He’s the antithesis of the pure zen-like artisanal photography of his contemporary Hiroshi Sugimoto. Where Sugimoto is calm and every image is planned with meticulous care, Moriyama is all fire and flash. He’s a magician with a camera. Sleight of hand is his thing. At 85 he still bedazzles.

One of his trademarks is the snapshot taken from the passenger seat of a car. He loves the road, because it quickly throws up potential subjects for his camera as he is driven along it. So over the next few days I’ll give you some of my attempts at this kind of photography.

How low are you at the moment? I was pretty low taking this photo, physically and mentally. It seemed like a good idea at the time but now I unsure. It’s back catalogue or dawn dog walk photos at the moment and the more this situation goes on the lower my enthusiasm for photography goes. When this all started I decided to do macro and instead of buying some cheap extension tubes I buy a sigma 105mm lens for my canon. I got bored of that quick, what a waste of money, probably sell the lens when this is all over. It’s all about being out there with me, my passion is the great outdoors and if I get a snap on the way, good for me. All this getting photos of coloured water drops, still life or a close up of a bumble bee bum is not where I’m at. It’s an ignorant attitude I know I would learn new stuff and improve my photography, and I’m impressed with other peeps posts, but I have no empathy for those images so no motivation to dabble myself. The next one will be more upbeat I promise, stay safe.

Taking the first step begins with making healthy choices, spiritually, mentally and physically. We begin by getting right with our Lord, making positive decisions and Taking care of our bodies. In the end we are better for it.

The allegations against Miss Scarlett are to be investigated.

- Abuse both physically & mentally.

- Can't keep the promises.

- Flirt but doesn't take it.

I don't love this photo, but how does one walk by these massive cactus-blossom showstoppers and not shoot? It's physically impossible for me.

Literally and physically! HFF

Mt. Hope, Ohio behind Mrs. Yoder's Kitchen

Taj watching by physically challenged person

It has been gloomy and gray here for the past week. I haven't done much birding, but at least I finished carving my Curlew.

This was carved in the traditional decoy style which means that the main feather groupings are contoured in, but individual feathers are not not physically cut in with stoning and burning tools as would be if this were a "decorative" piece. Legs are also not carved in this style, so a dowel is used. The wood sealer is on and It is ready for painting.

I would like to thank JMC Nature Photos , Wildlife by E.W. Smit and Brad Rangell for very generously sending me their recent great shots of long-billed Curlews to help with the painting.

Thanks guys. I hope you like the finished product.
