Phuket, Ricoh GR2

The main town on the island is on the opposite side to the main tourist beaches and so a lot of holidaymakers don't make it this far. Nevertheless the town has a lot of charm and is full of old colonial Portuguese buildings that were built by the first European settlers to the island.

Phuket is one of the oldest cities in Thailand. It was an important port on the west coast of the Malay Peninsula where Chinese immigrants first landed.

Phuket Old Town is a quarter studded with heritage buildings in ten streets: Klang, Phang Nga, Rassada, Dee Buk, Krabi, Thep Kasattri, Phuket, Yaowarat, Satun, and Soi Rammanee. These older buildings show Phuket town's former prosperity. They were constructed when tin mining was an important industry on the island. Their architectural style is called "Sino-Portuguese", characteristic of which is a single or two-storey building with a narrow front compensated for by considerable depth. The tiles, doors, perforated windows, and other details are all influenced by Chinese and European styles combined. "Phuket Old Town" is a 2.7 km2 area covering a total of 210 rai. The population of the town is approximately 75000

a dramatic sunset in Phuket, captured with the soft surreal waves as sun sank into the sea.

did a bit of running around with the tripod, trying to find good angles and better spots amidst all the rock and what not, ended up losing my IR remote no thanks to my clumsiness, washed away by the waves. drats.

For those who are wondering:

this was taken at narrowest aperture possible (f32) using a series of 3 frames exposed at 4,15,30 seconds respectively. this was done to give the water a soft silky smooth texture. a CPL was used in the process as well.

Later they were combined into a HDR piece using Photomatix, and slight curves and levels adjustment was done in photoshop.
