Un modesto temporale nel tardo pomeriggio ha portato poca pioggia, ma allontanandosi ha lasciato dietro sé, al tramonto, uno spettacolo affascinante.

An image of frozen Lake Baikal from the travel archive.
This phenomenon of disruptive ice slabs stacking on each other is described as " hummocks".
Taken early in the morning on an overcast day.
Many thanks for your visit, comments, invites and faves...it is always appreciated.

While waiting for the sunset I've got into this curious phenomenon. The clouds were turning around and gathering on the summit of this mountain. The final effect was seeming an erupting volcano. Why not dedicate a shot to it. I love the clouds!

** The clap of hunger ** the atmosphere with the fallout of fine droplets has nothing to do with a meteorological phenomenon, it's just Madame who just snorted after tasting her little fish and she's getting ready already to plunge again as soon as the opportunity arises.
image taken from the tent looking out and in a natural environment. PS: any request for sharing with a group will be rejected on the spot, I do not want any advertising on my work (I passed the age of receiving Oscars, Good Points and other kindergarten ...... . ) , thank you for your understanding .
** Type "L" then "F11" rather than clicking on the photo, as it has a very large format, it degrades if we click on it ... **
Series "Touch of mist" # 8
A few days here is fog. On 21 December, the fog was very large. When the sun comes, what was white fog, transformed to yellow fog. I've never seen. I was the enchanted. I spent four hours there, as long as the phenomenon lasted.
Diamond Fuji is a phenomenon in which the sun appears like a diamond when it overlaps the top of Mt. Fuji.
This phenomenon arises from the old wood, temperatures must be just below freezing with high humidity!
The fog phenomenon
During autumn and winter, parts of the northern Alpine valleys, as well as the villages and cities of the low areas of the Mittelland, experience a climatic phenomenon in the form of a lowland fog. This occurs when the stable, high-pressure weather conditions prevail over central Europe and the Alps and create cold air masses. This results in a blanket of fog that can cover the areas for days or even weeks.
Meanwhile, towns perched high up in the Alps get to enjoy warm weather due to an inversion. This occurs when the air above the fog line is warmer than the air below. For this reason, Switzerland’s high-altitude resorts are extremely popular destinations come wintertime. (this info was copied from EXPATICA )

Sunset last gave me the pleasure of seeing the phenomenon called the green flash (the bit at the top of the sun)
I’ve tried many times in the past to see this but failed.
One off the photo bucket list 😀
On July 12th, 2021, the three-day old Moon was close to the brightest “star” in the sky - planet Venus - as seen in the western sky, an astronomical phenomenon called conjunction. These events, including the Moon and bright planets, are quite common. If you zoom a lot into the photo, you may see the much dimmer planet Mars, just to the left and a little below Venus - I could not see it with the naked eye, due to its proximity to the much brighter Venus. Of course, these three worlds were very much separated in space - at the time of this conjunction, the Moon was about 387,000 Km away from the Earth, Venus was about 214 million Km and Mars about 372 million Km away. And a little above and to left of the Moon, the star named Regulus (The Lion’s heart) lies at 78 light years away or about 2 billion times further than the Moon! Better to stop these calculations…enjoy your summer!
According to Wikipedia, "glory is an optical phenomenon, resembling an iconic saint's halo around the shadow of the observer's head, caused by sunlight or (more rarely) moonlight interacting with the tiny water droplets that compose mist or clouds."
Rotenflue SZ, Switzerland
I say mystical, but in all honesty, the only thing mystical about this tree is that a shepherds fence post became an international phenomenon. Perhaps the sheer beauty of the South Island of New Zealand contributed to the mystique.
An upside down rainbow which belongs to the halo family of weather optical phenomenon. It is made up of ice crystals on Cirrus clouds. There is lots of technical data that go with these, but I will let you look it all up!
I, mountain view, looked over the horizon to the place when the setting sun vanished. The setting sun was not on the horizon but rather below the horizon. Although the scene appeared somehow super natural, nothing more usual was occurring than a setting sun and cloudless. As I was content to gazing, the light glowed last slight of burgundy before turning silver into the moonlight.
Driving home this evening I noticed that we had some Sun dogs, an atmospheric optical phenomenon with bright rainbow spots on either side of the sun. When I got home I changed lens but wasn't able to get the sun dogs, but you can see the 22 degree halo around the sun that comes with the Sun dogs.

Ok, so I was out by the edge of the woods taking some night shots when I heard this strange rustling buzzing sound.
What could that be ?.. So I put my Nikon onto the tripod and set it for 30 seconds.... . . . . . . . POW! all of these lights come streaming from within the deep woods and across my shot !!
Super bright and moving at lighting speed. Gone in a second.
Three of them came straight at me and the camera then turned.
They lit up the trees they had been in and came straight at me!!!!
....................
It would appear that I had disturbed some creatures which had been resting in the trees. I have no explanation ?????
OK - OK == I had set up a 30 second exposure shot of this forest and then for some strange reason in the middle of the 30 seconds turned the camera around 180* to set up for my next shot of a parking lot behind me. Voilà - when I downloaded my roll the aliens came in through my window and used lasers to warm up my tea.
The phenomenon used to be called "Beer Goggles" - the more you drink, the later it gets, the fewer choices you have, the lower your personal standards of what you will attempt . . .

Medicine Lake - This intriguing lake is a place of mystery and Indian legend. Due to a unique underground drainage system, the water level of the lake vary from season to season … sometimes it actually disappears! Every fall this lake mysteriously drains. What makes Medicine Lake unusual is that there is no visible channel for draining the lake – so where does the water go? The answer is, “out the bottom,” like a bathtub without a plug. Early Indians once thought that “spirits” were responsible for the dramatic fluctuations in the placid waters. Interpretive exhibits explain the phenomenon but nobody knows for sure where all of the water goes.

Story:
Vestrahorn Mountain, located in Iceland, is a breathtaking natural wonder. With its imposing black rock ridges and black sand beach, it captivates visitors with its unique beauty. The stark contrast between the dark mountain peaks and the black sand creates a visually striking scene. Vestrahorn is a popular destination for nature lovers and photographers seeking to capture the magnificence of this fascinating landscape, offering a truly memorable experience.
The Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, is a mesmerizing celestial phenomenon that graces the night skies in polar regions. This dazzling display of lights is a result of interactions between the Earth's magnetic field and charged particles from the sun. One of the most enchanting aspects of the Aurora Borealis is its vibrant array of colors. The dancing lights can appear in hues of green, blue, red, yellow, and even purple. The green color, the most common, comes from oxygen molecules approximately 60 miles above the Earth. The different colors are produced by variations in altitude and the type of gas particles involved in the collision. Each color adds its own magical touch to the spectacle, painting the night sky with an ethereal and ever-changing palette. Witnessing the vivid colors of the Aurora Borealis is a truly awe-inspiring experience that leaves a lasting impression on all who have the privilege to see it.

I have never really seen a perihelion/ sun dog quite like this one, most seem to look like a wide angle lens flare effect, but this one has a very pronounced second sun, I guess caused by ice crystals formed in the clouds to the left : )

Whilst in Iceland, it would be criminal not to go and see the Geysers. These geothermal hot springs explode as temperatures reach up to 185 degrees centigrade 20 metres below the surface. It varies between each Geyser but every 20 minutes or so a great display of water shoots up creating this well known phenomenon.

Reports of the abduction phenomenon have been made all around the world, but are most common in English-speaking countries, especially the United States.[3] The first alleged alien abduction claim to be widely publicized was the Betty and Barney Hill abduction in 1961.

The Enchanted City is a Spanish natural area of calcareous or limestone rock formations formed over thousands of years. It is located near Valdecabras, in the municipality of Cuenca (Spain), in a wide area of pine forests in the southern part of the Cuenca mountains and at an altitude of 1,500 meters.
It was declared a Natural Site of National Interest on June 11, 1929. The action of water, wind and ice has made this karstic phenomenon possible. The heterogeneity of the rocks in terms of their morphology, chemical composition and degree of hardness is what has allowed their uneven wear by atmospheric elements, resulting in a surprising sample of picturesque art from nature itself. To the whimsical and spectacular existing formations we must add lapiaces, torques and sinkholes.
It shares these characteristics especially with "Los Callejones", a place located in the municipality of Las Majadas. Both places are part of the Serranía de Cuenca Natural Park, created by the Law of the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La Mancha 5/2007.

Another hard disk find:
In the afternoon we experienced very different clouds at the high Rainbow Point/Bryce Canyon.
Here and there a sunspot came through and grazed the landscape. The result was a few minutes in the distance, a light phenomenon: not the sun's rays led to beams but the reflection of the light from the illuminated rocks against the dark sky.

I saw the rising moon lighting-up the anvil canopy of a distant thunderstorm, and waited until the moon broke free. It created a nice effect.
