After 4 years and 3 major rebuilds. The Duchess is cosmetically finished (apart from a dab of brass paint on the walchetts). A letter to Santa this Christmas for a PFX brick should have it up and running with sounds/lights and smoke billowing. I will try and get a better pictures at weekend as this doesn't do it justice (plus straighten bricks and stickers).

I know this will not be to everyones taste and I know this has stickers as shape and 3d parts but I enjoy designing them.

1960 Pininfarina "X" concept car / sometimes referred to as the PFX - 4-door Sedan - rear mounted 1089cc straight-4 FIAT petrol engine - 43 bhp / 4.800 rpm - torque 71 Nm / 3.200rpm - four-speed manual gearbox - top speed 156 km/h

- Designed by Alberto Morelli and personally spearheaded by Batista "Pinin" Farina, created as part of a scientific research program by the factory and proudly exhibited at the 1960 Turin Motor Show.

- A revolutionary body configuration and untraditional rhomboid layout for the four wheels provided aerodynamics (drag coefficient / CD=0,23) that allowed higher maximum speeds and lower fuel consumption: an extremely efficient, low-drag family Sedan.

- The fins at the rear had nothing to do with American automotive fashion; instead, they actually helped to counter the loss of stabilization that came as a result of the highly aerodynamic shape.

- The single front wheel is responsible for steering, while the two side wheels serve as outriggers to stabilize the car and the single rear wheel (centrally in the middle at the back) provides the power.

Of the 9 locomotive’s I have built currently only 2 are complete and operational. B&M 1231 is waiting on an airwire c-25, BAR 33 and 36 are waiting on airwire G4 boards, ( they will not have sound) BAR 68 waiting on airwire c-25 with a tsu-2200 sound board. BAR 1776 is waiting for a decision on either keeping the PFx brick or installing a c-25 board with sound. BAR 55 and the gray Plymouth works are working overtime pushing all the locomotives around. The red and black Plymouth works (not shown here) are unpowered at this time.

It was quite a challenge to come up with a design for the trailer. I ended up choosing a very obscure reference to an old Oddworld game. The colors were adjusted just a bit and now it fits perfectly with the truck.

The truck pulls the trailer extremely well. See it in action here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnxO50xA-ws

Using an SBrick might seem like overkill. I am working on another DAF with a PFx brick and plan on comparing the various receiver bricks in these Model Team trucks.

This setup is similar to Nate Flood's although I haven't actually seen his. It works fairly well with no speed control, the inboard engines are 1 plate lower than the outboards and they still turn fine which allowed some dihedral on the wings. If you had a way to control the juice getting to the motor (i.e. Pfx) then it would be optimal. The only mistake I made was not building a technic frame that holds the motor steady to the crown gear. I need to tweak that and then it should be perfect.

After a year of planning and another year of building and tinkering I’ve completed my favorite steam locomotive in LEGO. I designed most of it in stud.io and modified once I got parts in hand. This locomotive is very important to me, as I grew up not too far away from it. I visited it with my Grandpa when I was young and visited it in 2019 while I was studying at Michigan State.

This model wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for Aaron Burnett. I met him at Brickfair 2019 and he helped design the chassis and guide me towards my final design. I also have decals from OKBrickworks and side rods from Alexander. My model was inspired by Edward’s NKP #765 and Ivan’s Polar Express.

This model features a PFx Brick and a XL speaker from Fx Bricks.

I think this is the only thing I've framed with this one.. Just wanted to see what it was like.. It came with something else so didn't cost extra...

Trying to get more reflective plastic looking tape to make the boiler taper more realistic and seamless.

Still figuring out how to fit the lights, speakers and motor into this..

I'm not sure if you know the feeling, when you try to find a model you are pretty sure you have built, but you can't. Then you check your mobile phone photos to ensure you had it. Then you get back to looking for and finally you are finding it in a box with several models you entirely forget you have.

And yes, every time I start building something I complain I do not have enough bricks.

This is the third ST43/060Da in my collection, kept in the newest outfit like other two. Powered by two PF-train motors, 6xAA battery box and waiting for PFX Brick and speaker.

I'm also considering modifying it for usage of 9V motors for long runs. Will see.

I really like the ST43(s) on the layout. These are reliable, pretty solid and have a lot of space inside to have fully equipped cabs. When using PF-train motors there is even a space for large battery box. What to want more.

That one is going to be ST43-97.

Not quite the jet of steam coming from the cylinder drain cocks like the real loco. But adds a bit of fun. Eventually PFX brick will control both.

Larger Piezo in chimney for a fuller smoke look. Larger water tank gives this approx 30min run time from chimney only.

Aviation Day at Kjeller Airport (ENKJ) on May 21, 2017. Scandinavian Aircraft AS Canadian Car & Foundry T-6 Harvard Mk. 4 LN-PFX (cn CCF4-194). Operated by the Norwegian Flying Aces at Notodden Airport.

The NS1200 series entered service back in 1952 as part of the reconstruction of the country after the 2nd World War. Bought as part of the Marshall plan, these were designed by Baldwin/Westinghouse in co-operation with Heemaf. Of the 25 engines build 2 are still in active service today, and a third one being used as an engine by the National Rail Museum in Utrecht.

The real engines are enormous compared to most other Dutch Engines. For this model I've chosen the colours used back in the 50s untill the 60s. The NS1202 is the roadnumber of the one at the Railway Museum with the same colours.

The engine is powered by a custom build Li-Ion battery, controlled through a PFx Brick. The train has working signals at the front and the back.

The drivetrain consists of 2 PF XL-motors driving BBB M-wheels with a 1:1.667 ratio.

I want to thank Pieter Post for helping with the photo's and some stickers, as well as Raised, Tijn__ and loads of others for helping me with some details and feedback.

It's a little late for 2022, but this is our growing Christmas holiday layout. This layout is slowly replacing the need for having a Christmas tree in our home and I have to admit, its more fun working on this than decorating a real tree! The layout features several LEGO holiday sets extensively modified with LEDs and lighting effects provided by multiple PFx Bricks embedded into the models. The layout is built into modular sections which conform to the MILS modular building standard. This allows the layout to be easily taken apart for storage and reconstructed each season. The modular construction allows the layout to grow over time (which it will!)

All the lighting and PFx Bricks are powered by USB and the Holiday Train has been modified to be powered by metal 9V train track (a mix of LEGO 9V and Fx Bricks track). Therefore the entire layout does not depend on batteries for power and can be continuously illuminated as a showcase display in our home during Christmas.

My Great Northern EMD NW3, finally done in real bricks!

The NW3 was EMD's first attempt at a road switcher, launched in 1939. The concept was simple: they took the hood of a NW2 and mounted it on a stretched frame, gave it Blomberg B road trucks, a bigger fuel tank, a boiler under the wide hood section, and a much larger cab, but kept the switcher-derived end cab arrangement. The engine remained unchanged, too: a V12 567 rated at 1000hp

Soon after, EMD gave up this concept and the successor NW5 adopted the now-standard arrangement with a off-center cab between short and long hoods that ALCO had brought up with its RS-1.

Only seven NW3s were built, numbered 5400 through 5406; all went to the GN, most of them being traded-in to EMD in the 60s. There used to be one NW3 still in service back when I started my project, but sadly it got scrapped by the end of 2018 after almost 80 years of duty. There’s now one sole surviving NW3; it’s on static display in Whitefish, MT.

Some remarks on the model:

- The first LDD version dates back to March 2016, so with all the ons and offs it took me more than three years to finalize it.

- The model is built of about 885 parts, which is about 120 parts less compared to its NW5 sister model. The main reason is the spartan color scheme compared to the Emperor Builder scheme, which let me use panels and large bricks instead of stacks of plates for stripes.

- The detailed interiors of both the engine hood and the cab probably wouldn’t have been possible if I’d had to squeeze in a battery box. For a project like this, the 9V system is still the best choice*

- MOD WARNING: the motor side frames got the minifig head-shaped part cut off to give room for the Blomberg swing bolster.

Special thanks go to Andy from OKBrickWorks for taking care of the stickers — I’m not good at this, and without his excellent work, the locomotive would most certainly be plain black :-)

Finally, many thanks to all of you for following the journey, and for all your comments and suggestions — please keep them coming!

(*) At one point during the design process I had thought about modding one of my 9V motors to get a PFx Brick in the power loop, plus loudspeaker and LED lights. That’s not off the table, Michael — might be a mid term evolution path!
