This mushroom, called "Amanita muscaria", is easily found in the area of "Vila Nova de Paiva", Viseu. Despite of its beauty, is considered toxic, unlike other mushrooms that can be found in the region, widely used in traditional cooking.

As I said earlier, in Porto and its region there’s a lot of 'vintage' modernist architecture to be enjoyed. Like the Rosa Mota arena shown here. This modernist pavilion was designed by José Carlos Loureiro and opened its doors in 1954. It was initially named the Pavilhão dos Desportos and renamed in 1991 in the Rosa Mota Arena, in honour of the Portuguese Olympic marathon champion.

In 2014, after a public call for tenders, the Lucios / PEV consortium was responsible for the refurbishment of the arena. The process was concluded in 2019 at a cost of 8 million E. In November 2018, the Municipality of Porto signed a naming/sponsor agreement with Super Bock, the company's name was going to be used for the arena for 20 years, so the name is Superbock arena now.

Currently, the arena has the capacity to undertake events up to 8,000 people. Besides cultural and sports events, the arena can also function as a congress centre.

Architect José Carlos Loureiro played a vital role in the Potuguese modernist movement. He was also professor at the Escola Superior de Belas-Artes do Porto.

Were put on the PEV (Photography Expedition Vehicle) during a day trip. Even though they were calling for a 70% chance of rain I took it as a 30% chance that it wouldn't rain and that was good enough for me! ; )

Last MoT test expired in June 2016.

It hadn’t even been six hours since I had arrived back him from my trip and I already found myself glued next to one of the local mainlines.

My flight home from Chile on AA912 wasn’t terrible, somehow managing to catch some sleep in a fully packed Boeing 777-223ER, and a lengthy phone call with friends upon arriving back at Miami Int’l Airport at 05:00 would further wake me up that morning. Leaving the house to hunt some train movements seemed like the ideal plan. No room for sleep anymore; after all, the rest of the family was knocked out at that hour. I wasn’t trying to be nuisance at home.

While on the aforementioned phone call, I’d receive confirmation regarding FEC Train 101-27’s consist for the day: a complete “Champion”-painted power set with a solid train of solely intermodal traffic for Port Everglades and Hialeah. Definitely something worth photographing in this day and age of the Florida East Coast Railway. Making it out to Dania Beach around 10:00, a short waiting period would play out while waiting for 101-27 to arrive at Port Everglades and make their setout.

Bypassing the Hialeah-bound freight occupying the East Main by PEV Storage, BLF 723-27 takes on the curve—aptly named by some local buffs as ‘Dania Curve’—at Milepost 347 on its morning southbound revenue run from Orlando Int’l Airport to MiamiCentral, now five miles away from its Aventura station stop. A pair of second order SCB-40’s bracket a five-car BrightBlue train set, a shiny #BLF113 on the point of the train breezing past lush trackside shrubbery. With how regular these trains are along the mainline, they make for fantastic photo angle test subjects… you could say it was warmup. Safe to say this was one of the rare ‘keeper’ test shots from that morning.

Peveril of the Peak, Manchester, UK

The 'Pev' is a famous Manchester institution, still run by the city’s longest serving landlady. A splendid etched mirror hangs over the fireplace in the snug (formerly the Smoke Room), commemorating the first forty years of her tenure. The pub, like its landlady, is a great survivor. It stands as a small triangular island of civilised drinking, shorn of the rest of the original terrace but surrounded by much taller office and apartment blocks of both 19th and 21st century origin. The glorious green tiled exterior hides an even more splendid interior, full of polished wood, stained glass and traditional bench seating along the walls – much of it with the original bell pushes that once summoned bar staff to take customers' orders.

There are four distinct drinking areas. Entering from the street you find yourself in a long and twisting drinking lobby surrounding the island bar. Behind the bar, in the V of the pub's wedge shape, is the public bar, featuring an unusual and antique “table football” machine. In the opposite direction are another wedge-shaped room (the afore-mentioned cosy snug, often the venue for folk groups) and the L-shaped rear room. The pub is now open all Saturdays, no longer just when Manchester United are at home.

Bathed in a setting sun’s final rays of sunlight, Florida East Coast Railway train 208-06 takes in the curves through ‘PEV Storage’, wrapping around Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport’s [FLL/KFLL] east side on the afternoon of Saturday, April 6th, 2024. A now-rare pair of matching Champion-paint ES44C4/LNG/ES44C4 power sets, led by #FEC821, take charge of the afternoon junker from Hialeah Yard to Jacksonville’s Bowden Yard. The days’ train is comprised of loaded limerock, domestic FEC intermodal, and a handful of carload manifest on the bottom, with no setout at Fort Pierce needed [Waste Management IM handled by 191/290 on Saturdays]. Since FEC 206 is abolished on Saturday’s, 208-06 had its own power [821/306/802], plus what would’ve been 206’s [811/304/807], moved north to Jacksonville to keep the power cycle moving for the next day.

Solutions for a better life

One of the coolest, if not the coolest place I've fanned to date. I made the eight hour drive to La Grange, KY getting there about 11:00 PM. I was trackside shortly thereafter hoping to get a night shot or two?

I stayed out until after 3:00 AM, then grabbed a few hours sleep and was back at it. I fanned until about 6:00 PM then made the eight hour drive back home. I put a little over 1100 miles on the PEV (Photography Expedition Vehicle) in 36 hours and I would and hope to do it again soon. It is the coolest little town with some of the nicest people I've ever met. It was awesome! : )

After grabbing 101's cut at PEV Interlocking, it is already shoving them into PEV for unloading.

H32 PEV. Here's something that really took me by surprise when I first encountered it - a very early Clio in a really fun colour. Sadly doesn't look like it gets much use these days

As a Thunderstorm builds in the background, FEC210-24 makes the pull out of the PEV Interlocking from FTL to head north.....
