Alstroemeria is a very popular vase flower sometimes called the Peruvian Lily but best known as the Alstroemeria will brighten up your garden and home at the same time.

It was an early morning start and the low clouds continued to pass over, at times completely blanketing the lost city of the Inca's but fortunately there were also moments like this one.

This particular lily is very invasive. It has lovely flowers though.

It looks lovely but it is very invasive. It is all over the front garden and even in the shade house. I dig it up where I can. Definitely only for a plant pot.

These are so pretty in the garden and even nicer in a vase. I have two colours in the garden, pink and red.

These Peruvian Pelicans were following a fishing boat near Lima, Peru this past August. It was exciting to see so many of them in one spot.

Alstroemeria sp., aka Lily of the Incas or Peruvian Lily, in an arrangement of cut flowers.

Taken at the San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden with the Nature Photography Group of the Central Coast.

This lovely flower is an Alstroemeria, commonly known as the Peruvian Lily or Lily of the Incas. They are easily identified by those distinctive dark "whiskers" or streaks on the inner petals and their long-lasting nature in bouquets.

A few Quick Facts about these Lilies:

1. Variety: They come in almost every color, from vibrant oranges and yellows to the soft pink and white seen in your image.

2. Longevity: These are a favorite for florists because they can stay fresh in a vase for up to two weeks.

3. Safety Note: While beautiful, they can be mildly toxic to cats and dogs (causing stomach upset), so keep them out of reach of curious pets.

If you have any of the Lily family of flowers in your house and also have a cat(s) beware. They are highly toxic / lethal to cats and they only need to ingest a tiny amount to kill them.

Better viewed large, and thank you for your favourites. :)
