There are subjects that have been photographed thousands of times.

For me, the point is not to show once more what a place looks like,

but how it feels when I connect it with my own imagination.

Stuttgart City Library is a strong piece of architecture,

but in a purely documentary image it becomes interchangeable for me.

It’s the kind of picture you look at for a moment and forget the next day.

For the wall, I am looking for something else:

an interpretation that still inspires years later.

So this is not a classic documentary photograph.

I take the idea of the architecture and push it further –

into a calmer, clearer, futuristic version that still remains believable.

A smartphone could document this space perfectly well.

So why do we walk in with high-end cameras and lenses

only to produce yet another “correct” documentation?

I deliberately photograph in a way that turns a real location into a personal world.

Many architectural images are clean and technically correct – and still interchangeable.

One has a bit more sharpness, another a bit less noise,

but in the end it’s essentially the same picture.

You recognize the building, but not the person, the photographer, the artist behind it.

That’s where such images lose their impact, especially if you want to live with them on your wall.

Do we really want to contribute the ten-thousandth version of the same scene?

Creating your own visual worlds is much more demanding.

There is no template, nothing to copy, no guaranteed formula.

All you have is your inner idea of the place, and everything has to build around that:

colors that work together, light that carries a certain mood,

and the question of what this image is supposed to express.

That’s also why such a style is hard to imitate –

there is no preset for it, only the artist’s handwriting.

It took me a long time to understand this.

For many years I held back my own signature because I thought

photography had to be “correct” first and foremost.

But that way of working makes many images age quickly.

Photography becomes truly interesting when you dare to think a subject further –

not just to document, but to interpret.

That is what interests me today:

revealing the potential of a place, not just its surface.

If this image encourages other photographers to repeat less

and show more of their own signature, it has done its job.

There are far more possibilities than “natural colors” or “black and white”.

Once you allow your inner version of a subject to flow into the picture,

you start creating images you genuinely want to keep for a long time.

And if you notice a man from the future

in the glass door at the top —

don’t worry, that’s me. 😉

Personal style is a means of expressing our individuality and uniqueness. Clothes influence how we look at someone. They help create an idea of what we think about their personality. Wearing what makes you comfortable is a statement, and people will respect your individuality.

We both attended Fujikina in Cologne, where coffee and water were provided. I had just filled my cup when I noticed this gentleman and complimented his look. I asked if someone had already taken his portrait today. He said no, so I put the cup down, placed him in front of the heating beside the coffee corner, and took five quick shots. Less than three minutes later, he was on his way. My thanks to him for agreeing to a portrait from a stranger.

"Hats can make a statement and many of us, unused to wearing something on our heads, can feel conspicuous wearing them. Finding a hat that reflects your personal style will make a hat feel more 'you' and therefore more comfortable."

The same could be said about the wearing of masks, which is now compulsory in shops, public buildings and on public transport in many countries. Finding your own personal face covering can make the situation a little less stressful which is why I have made masks in a variety of colours and patterns, one for every occasion, outfit and season.

We had a really nice weekend and that continued into today. We went to breakfast across the river in Ohio and I decided the slightly warmer weather and all this sun was more than enough of a reason to get dressed up. I am starting to find my way back to the rhythm of putting together outfits and feeling confident in them.

In the warm light of Santa Catalina, this black and white portrait captures a tattoo artist outside his shop, a moment frozen in time reflecting his personal style and professional identity. The intricate tattoos peeking from under his sleeve hint at a canvas of stories inked into his skin, while his casual pose and thoughtful gaze suggest a deep connection to his craft. The stark contrast of light and shadow highlights the contours of his face and the texture of his beard, adding a raw intensity to the image. This photograph not only portrays the artist but also the cultural tapestry of Santa Catalina, a place where art and life seamlessly intertwine.

A feather in his hat catches my eye and earns a smile.

We tend to signal who we are through small choices rather than grand gestures. A hat worn a certain way. A feather tucked in. Details that may seem nondescript to the wearer, but are quietly expressive to anyone paying attention.

Street photography often lives in these minor details. The little touches that say more than perhaps intended.

For my birthday we did something that I used to ask to do every year as a child, go eat pasta with people I love. I wanted to dress up as my favorite self. I made some of this and I have thrifted and repurposed other parts of the outfit. I have had a very nice and very productive stay-cation for my birthday, My Dracula has been tirelessly building me a big walk in closet in the basement, we did a bunch of yard work in the 90°F heat, we’ve unpacked more, started the final leg of emptying out the storage building, and have gone for so many walks. I have a few more days off and some sewing and jewelry making I am very excited to do. Allow me this little bit of vanity and absolute joy on a day that I’ve felt so loved.
