Kent Falls State Park, Kent, Connecticut, USA

Last winter was cold, snowy and stubbornly persistent in Connecticut. Case in point: I took this photograph of Kent Falls on April 16, nearly a month into springtime!

Mother Nature has been rather forgiving so far this season, but then again, it's not actually winter just yet. Who knows what's in store for the next three or four months?

Lighting: One CL-600 in a 120cm Jinbei BD w/ diffusion. I'm standing in front of the light.

First off... I like creating tension. The tension created by the man looking out of the frame and not being on the same plane as the main subject appeals to me.

This couple contacts me and says that they're getting married in December. They want to know if I'll do a couple's shoot. I decline... not really my thing. They are very persistent though and tell me how much they admire my photography. I finally tell them to come in for individual quick sessions. At the end of their individual sessions I told them we would "try" a few shots of the couple but stated very clearly that they shouldn't expect anything.

I thought about it for a couple of days. How can I make this different? I don't want them to be holding hands or gazing into each other's eyes... let the other photogs do that mess.

I had this idea to integrate my close-up headshot style into their shoot. I told Jeevan to stand in the back and look out of frame. I got Vinnie to do her thing with the camera. I even told them that Jeevan would be out of focus. They were all for it.

We took a few frames and when they looked at them they were floored. They enjoyed just how different it was. They stated that in India (where they'll wed) they will have to do silly stuff... like holding hands and gazing into each other's eyes. They ended up extremely happy.

BBC Weather - 31.01.14

A cold frosty start with some fog patches. It will soon turn windy with gales along coasts and high ground. Rain spreading eastwards, reaching all parts by lunchtime will be persistent for many.

Goodbye January :)

Persistent fog is starting to lose its battle with rising pleasant temperatures as CSX westbound empty ethanol train K677 (Baltimore - Chicago/CN) digs into the hill at Philson as it works its way up Sand Patch in its effort to conquer the Alleghenies. Despite shooting directly into the sun here, I will make do with any train I can given traffic levels can be somewhat sporadic on Sand Patch. With intel that said preferred light eastbounds were few and far between, I did what I could with K677.

Ausdauernde Blütenstände der Kletterhortensie sind den ganzen Winter über dekorativ.

The florescences of the climbing hydrangea are very decorative still snow covered.

Persistent pain experienced when we are young and active is unlikely to be accepted as something which is ‘normal’. Indeed, we are likely to do everything we can to ensure we obtain the best available help and find the treatment most effective to manage the pain.

Such attitudes and beliefs should not change with older age. Yet, pain in older people is highly prevalent and widely accepted as something to be expected and regarded as ‘normal’ in later life. Hence, suffering associated with persistent pain in older people often occurs without the appropriate assessment and treatment.
