About the U.S. Army Installation Management Community:

IMCOM handles the day-to-day operations of U.S. Army installations around the globe - We are the Army's Home. Army installations are communities that provide many of the same types of services expected from any small city. Fire, police, public works, housing, and child-care are just some of the things IMCOM does in Army communities every day. We endeavor to provide a quality of life for Soldiers, Civilians and Families commensurate with their service. Our professional workforce strives to deliver on the commitments of the Army Family Covenant, honor the sacrifices of military Families, and enable the Army Force Generation cycle.

Our Mission: To provide standardized, effective and efficient services, facilities and infrastructure to Soldiers, Civilians and Families for an Army and Nation engaged in persistent conflict.

Our Vision: Army installations are the Department of Defense standard for infrastructure quality and are the provider of consistent, quality services that are a force multiplier in supported organizations' mission accomplishment, and materially enhance Soldier, Civilian and Family well-being and readiness.

Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), which may cause cancer upon contact or inhalation, can be a grave danger to people around the world and even cause a potential ecological crisis.

One of the largest single-location POP stocks in the world is in a storage site in Kocaeli, Turkey .

Disposal of POP stocks is complicated and expensive. Not all POPs can be treated and disposed of the same way and destroying them must be done carefully to avoid additional contamination risks to the environment around the storage sites.

UNDP Turkey and the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization designed an elimination program, supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

Very persistent little bird I must say. It never quite got filled up. He was always yelling for mom to get more food. It was nice to watch just how good mommy was.

Sorry to say, there were three and a crow got two of them. This was the last and I think he made it.

With a faltering flashlight, you descend to the deepest parts of your memory; places you have deliberately abandoned where the records are kept of failures forgotten...

Faded and bleached colors bleed from the corroding memory, hinting of a pleasure that did not endure.

Taken in a building abandoned more than 50 years ago where, in a dark subfloor, this old file cabinet appeared in an otherwise vast empty space in total darkness.

Taken handheld at 1/2 second exposure by only the light of the headlamp on my hardhat using a Nikon D200 and 16-35mm VR lens.

Please visit the Entropic Remnants website or my Entropic Remnants blog -- THANKS!

Really interested? Want to own a piece of this history? I have an expensive but beautiful photo book you can see, and order here. If you buy it, don't use "photo correction" if asked. Tell them to leave the book alone!
