Please permit me to post another pier photograph. This one is on the Windsor, Ontario riverfront looking across the Detroit River to Detroit, Michigan.

As I looked across to Detroit, I noticed that most of the downtown buildings were dark, a result of the terrible COVID-19 crisis in our sister city. Well, the light at the end of this pier reminds me of an American motel chain, Motel 6, that in their old commercials would always end with the line: “…and we’ll leave the light on for you”. For many of us in the Windsor area, we are thinking of our neighbours, friends and relatives across this river during this hard time. We’ll leave the light on for you! Detroit Strong!

Cuán hermosa es la ventana

que te permite mirar

y encontrarte cara a cara

la Torre que entra en la mar.

Mirar siempre al horizonte

te ayuda a caminar

y a encontrar el destino

que andando debes lograr.

Dame siempre una ventana

que me permita llegar

y encontrar siempre el sueño

al que me he de acercar.

No me des una ventana

de rejas y de castigo,

que quiero ver horizonte

y al mar siendo testigo.

Glencoe Lochan is a tract of forest located just north of Glencoe village in the Scottish Highlands. It was planted in the 1890s by Donald Alexander Smith, 1st Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal, with trees transplanted from the Pacific Northwest of Canada.

After acquiring the Glencoe Estate in 1895, Smith and his wife, Isabella Sophia Hardisty, moved from Canada to Scotland. Soon after their arrival, Isabella became increasingly homesick for her ancestral lands in Canada. In an attempt to abate his wife's depression, Smith had this forest painstakingly planted, and granted it to her as a private refuge.

The lochan is currently under the care of the Forestry Commission. There are trails around it and fishing for brown trout is possible with a permit purchased locally.

Good morning dear Flickr friends!

With drone photography, I was able to fulfill a long-cherished personal dream. The desire to "think outside the box". By this I mean, from a higher perspective, to finally make visible what was hidden from the normal perspective when taking pictures. In the photo I am on the small island "Love Island". It is not in the photo, but is located somewhat southwest of this section of the image. In front of us is the "Mettnau" peninsula, on the right it goes to the top. The front visible part of the lake is the "Zellersee". Behind the peninsula is the "Gnadensee", which is called "Markelfinger Winkel" at the end. A very quiet part of the lake that I like to go with kayak beginners. This part of the lake freezes over completely in winter and is then released for ice skating. However, it was a few years ago that the lake was frozen over. It may have been 4 or 5 years ago. I even published photos of the icy lake. Taking pictures from a height of 100 meters is simply wonderful and, thanks to the professional drone technology, a brilliant thing. If you feel inspired: Please fly carefully and observe the local laws and regulations and, like me, practice flying for hours, days and weeks on the open field without any support. In vacation countries, you sometimes need expensive permits and papers to fly. Without this, for example, Thailand faces a 5-year prison sentence. You should take that seriously. But enough of "if" and "but".

Happy weekend ahead!

Yarin

The first Blue I have captured this season. And again the shot was taken at 'arms length' above my head. It had paused very briefly a lot lower down but not long enough to get a shot.

I hope you have all had a wonderful and happy Christmas.

I will catch up with your images as time permits.

Egyptian Goose - Alopochen Aegyptiacus

Once common along the entire Nile valley and regarded as sacred in ancient times, the Egyptian Goose is no longer an easy bird to see in the country from which it takes its name, as it is largely confined to upper Egypt. It is, however, widespread and common throughout sub-Saharan Africa, with introduced populations firmly established in England, Holland, Belgium and France. Concerns over conflict with native species has led to restrictions on keeping them in Britain and Europe.

This distinctive small goose is a member of the shelduck family. In the wild it is invariably found in pairs or family parties, while flocks of 50 or more can be found after the breeding season. The sexes are similar: both have a conspicuous chestnut patch encircling the eyes, giving them a somewhat piratical appearance, while the brilliant white forewing is obvious when they fly.

The UK Invasive Alien Species (Enforcement and Permitting) Order 2019 came into force on Sunday 1st December. The Order implements requirements contained in EU Regulation 1143/2014 on Invasive Alien Species, which sets out rules to prevent and minimise the impact of the introduction and spread of non-native animals and plants across the EU. The Order makes it an offence, amongst other things, to import, keep, sell, transport, breed or release into the environment, any of the listed plants and animals. Invasive alien waterfowl currently covered by this Order are Egyptian Geese and Ruddy Ducks Oxyura jamaicensis.

The enhancements to the feeding station that Robbie is permitted to access seems to have made it the most popular feeding station in the yard. The treats placed at this station are placed at other feeding stations as well so it's not about the treats.

The feeding station was once simply a palm tree stump. Nature was doing what nature does and the stump was rotting little by little. I would make sure that the rotten part was cut and it would be nice for a while longer.

With the recent enhancements, the rotting part of the stump was cut and a stepping stone was placed on top. The stone was prepared to hold the small cedar branch that the tufty is on. Sure the stump will continue to break down but with the stone on top it should last a little longer. When I get a round to it, the plan is to fill the stump with a bit of resin or something to help preserve it for a few more years. The stone and cedar topper will be put back on though, the birds love it.

Too bad that this feeding station cannot be viewed from the living room window. It's located in the picnic area and there are a lot of plants hiding it from the window view. I am glad that my little visitors don't mind if I'm hanging out in the picnic area. They come and go as they please and for the most part ignore me when I am there. The wrens might scold me before coming over to get a treat. But that doesn't stop them at all.

Have a wonderful day and happy snapping.

In addition to the famous Wave and Second Wave, the Coyote Buttes North has an incredible variety of motifs. Most of the visitors there, who win one of the few permits, doesn't use these possibilities. It is relatively simple, e.g. to get on the top rock, if you do a little research on the Internet and the GPS points before stores.

The young and very active priest of our village recently brought up piles of sacred icons dating from the 16th to the 18th century and made the bold decision, if God permits, to slowly restore them all.

First, as was natural, the holy icon of the patron saint of our village, Saint holy virgin martyr Paraskevi, was chosen.

The short period of time in which the money was found and its rapid and at the same time very successful restoration are undoubtedly due to the parsimony of the embassies illustrated in it to the Savior Christ.

The photo is from her holy litany at the panegyrical vespers in honor of the Saint on July 25, 2020 as she managed to be present with all the new splendor in this year's celebration during which this sacred hoarding became the central icon of Η. Church of our village (Νomi of Trikala).

Wikipedia: Lumphini Park, also Lumpini or Lumpinee, is a 360 rai (57.6-hectare (142-acre)) park in Bangkok, Thailand. The park offers rare open public space, trees and playgrounds in the Thai capital and contains an artificial lake where visitors can rent boats. Paths around the park totalling approximately 2.5 km in length are a popular area for morning and evening joggers. Officially, cycling is only permitted during the day between the times of 10:00 am to 03:00 pm. There is a smoking ban throughout the park. Dogs are not allowed, except certified guide dogs only. Lumphini Park is regarded as the first public park in Bangkok and Thailand.

The 360 rai (about 57 hectares) plot of land, formerly known as Thung Sala Daeng ('Sala Daeng Field', now Sala Daeng Intersection), was the private property of King Rama VI. In 1925, the king donated the land to the nation to be used as a fair ground.

The March's Sun in the Arctic Circle is not usually rise to zenith. It's always low-rise as it was a sun of half afternoon.

It permits this special light, which projects long shadows and paints these patterns on the snow.

In sum, it's a singular and hypnotic effect.
