This one hung for many years on South Adams Street in Peoria but is now gone. Probably a victim of the Urban Artifacts craze.
Two Toledo Peoria and Western trains pass over each other at the Farmdale trestle near East Peoria, Illinois. Above is the the Effner Local with GP38-2s Nos. 2002 and 2008, curving over the Morton Switcher with GP18 No. 600. This photo was arranged by McMillan Publications with the cooperation of TP&W (who paused both trains for photos) for the Joe McMillan and Robert P. Olmsted book “The Peoria Way” featuring the railroad. This scene was only possible for 54 days at the end of the TP&W before the merger with Santa Fe at the end of 1983. Recently acquired trackage rights on the lower line via Norfolk and Western used to reach Morton made the shot possible.
UP YPR60B crosses Peoria Street behind Prairie Material on its way to Grand Avenue to switch the Tribune and Blommer, the usual suspects.

A good friend and I hit the road in June to go several places in Illinois. One was Peoria. We went to the Riverfront Museum which is downtown and along the Illinois River.
They have quite a few neat things well-worth checking out: Planetarium, Art, Natural History, Dinosaurs, Outdoor Sculptures, and a great Waterfowl Decoy Collection.

Today I have a shot of D36 further up on the BLD in Mansfield. Just behind the power is the connection for the Urbana Branch that heads off toward Champaign-Urbana. At one time this branch was the former mainline of NYC subsidiary Peoria and Eastern between Peoria and Indianapolis via Danville. The line once crossed the WAB in the background just before the first highway bridge. At some point, Conrail cut the PE east of Danville to Crawfordsville. Trains INPE/PEIN then took a cobbled together route to get to and from Peoria, first heading west on the NYC Saint Louis line to Paris, then up the NYC Danville Secondary/Egyptian Line to Danville where they regained PE rails. In 1996, prior to the split, Conrail sold a portion of the PE between Bloomington and Urbana to the NS. Why NS needed a second line to Peoria? I'm not sure. But of course it added a few customers in Champaign-Urbana and allowed them to discontinue their IC trackage rights from Tolono-Urbana. This was likely the ultimate goal. But it did block CSX from getting a line into Peoria after the Conrail split. Anyway, west of Mansfield the PE was railbanked for decades until the rails were finally pulled up in the mid-2010s. I actually remember paralleling the abandoned PE along I75 during road trips to the southeast from Wisconsin. As for the rest of the PE that remained, I believe it went to CSX after the split. Although they didn't have much use of the line west of Danville towards Urbana.
This was my best day on the Bloomington District and my last D36 chase to date. It was one of the handful of times I actually saw two trains on the BLD. In the morning, I caught a slow moving grainer heading south. The regular D36 then made it's normal midday appearance in Gibson City. In another case of being saved by the scanner, I heard D36 discussing with the dispatcher about picking up some MOW cars in the siding at Osman. This move allowed me to get both ends of the siding, as well as Mansfield seen here. After Mansfield, I made it to Lodge just in time. This particular shot I wanted for a long time with a straight -2. But normally I passed it up because I'd shoot the signals at Osman which, unless driving like an absolute maniac or the train running into problems, meant you'd not make it here. Very fond memories of this day that will likely never be repeated for me.
The last rays of the days sun are perfectly illuminating the nose of the 1539 as it takes its train through Greentown.

A group of Toledo Peoria & Western locomotives, four of them ex-Santa Fe GP20u units, idle in Fort Madison, Iowa.
The TP&W, nicknamed the "Tip-Up", is a short line that operates 247 miles of trackage between Mapleton and Peoria Illinois, and Logansport, Indiana.
They interchange with multiple railroads, and have trackage rights over other roads between Peoria and Galesburg, Logansport and Kokomo, and Reynolds and Lafayette.

The beautiful RiverPlex Recreation and Wellness Center in Peoria, Illinois, overlooks the Illinois River. This medically-based fitness center is a collaborative effort between the Peoria Park District and OSF Saint Francis Medical Center and features some of the latest cardio machines as well as climbing, basketball and cycling. It sits at the entrance to Peoria Lake, which is actually part of the Illinois River.

I guess this Anna's Hummingbird (Calypte anna) made his point ;) I really was following him while he was zooming all over the place and I was zooming in on him. Even though there's just a little bit of his wings not in the frame, I have to share as I really love this one!
Oh, and if you zoom in you can see the reflection of the red hummingbird feeder in his eye.
A line of lake front housing, IAIS's Peoria Sub, and Route 29 all share a very narrow path way along Peoria Lake as the attractive EMD's make their way down into Peoria.
