jokers turn kings
and diamonds to dust i
tried to beat the house
but every end was a bust
another day in
another begins
another night sleeping
on needles and pins
i keep a-rolling where the battle wind blows
i keep a-running when the trouble follows
ain’t no telling where i’m gonna end up
this lucky’s penny’s been nothing but bad luck
bad luck
bad luck
bad luck
my rusty old dreams are coming undone
fraying at the seams every mile that i run
another bad move
another dead stop
another wrong turn
on the way to the top
i keep a-rolling where the battle wind blows
i keep a-running when the trouble follows
ain’t no telling where i’m gonna end up
this lucky’s penny’s been nothing but bad luck
bad luck
bad luck
i’ve been playing to loose
an dying to win
a comp-ssionate heart
without a dollar to lend
deep in the red between the white lines
it’s a long road ahead and a long road behind
i keep a-rolling where the battle wind blows
i keep a-running when the sorrow follows
ain’t no telling where i’m gonna end up
this lucky’s penny’s been nothing but bad luck
bad luck
bad luck
bad luck

Did anyone tell you
that in each subway train
there is one special seat
with a small hole in it
and underneath the seat
is a tank of piranha-fish
which have not been fed
for quite some time.
The fish become quite agitated
by the shoogling of the train
and jump up through the seat.
The resulting skeletons
of unlucky passengers
turn an honest penny
for the transport executive,
hanging far and wide
in medical schools.

Macro Mondays theme "Contained"
Pennies spilling out of a small glass jar.
Canada stopped making pennies in 2013 because even though they had not contained any copper in a long time, there was still a cost of 1.6 cents to make each 1 cent coin. Even though they are still legal tender officially, businesses have no legal obligation to accept them. And so they don't. And so I have a jar of them.
The Ha’penny Bridge is the best known of Dublin’s bridges. It was built in 1816 and was the first iron bridge in Ireland. It is a single span structure with cast iron railings and decorative lamps. It was originally named the Liffey Bridge but is now called the Ha’penny because until 1919 to cross it there was a half-penny charge.
Accepted as the symbol of Dublin, the Ha’penny Bridge (officially Wellington Bridge after the ‘Iron Duke’) was opened in 1816. Cast at Coalbrookdale in Shropshire in England, the bridge acquired its unofficial moniker from the toll paid to cross the river – one old half penny. The bridge was the only pedestrian bridge on the Liffey until the Millennium bridge further up was opened in 2000.
According to the micrometer, the penny is not shrinking, it still measures 750/1000 inches or 3/4 of an inch.
This is a focus stack image created using 11 separate images and then stacked using AFFINITY Photo Software. It did all the work, I just pressed the shutter.

pick it up, and all day long you'll have good luck" is a folk rhyme and superstition that means finding a penny and picking it up will bring you good fortune. The tradition likely comes from ancient beliefs about metal being a gift from the gods, and many variations exist, including a popular one where you only pick up the penny if it's heads up.

This was my costume to the Pi Delta Sigma Susan G Komen/Halloween Event.
Looking straight up the narrows into the upper bay. Jersey City, Manhattan, and Brooklyn are in the background. I was using my Tica rod and old Penn 550 reel.

Happy Fence Friday :-)
The often-forgotten 'penny ferry' dates back to 1894 when the Manchester Ship Canal opened.
The penny ferry was established to maintain a public right of way instead of a bridge or viaduct.
While out on a walkabout, I came across a couple of people working at a snack/fast food joint called “Penny Lane” and thought it was worth taking a snap.
I'm Just A Guy With A Camera From London And Some Place Else
This year I'm really going to try to be good with money. I find pennies on the street almost every day. Homeless people don't even pick them up but I pick them up for good luck. Have a great week everyone!
A little more subdued in this pose but still remarkably calm and accommodating compared to how she used to sneak away whenever I brought out my camera before.
In October the most dramatic northern lights displayed as I watched from my back deck. Next time I hope to be in a countryside setting to view them.
Known as Penny's Hospital, built in 1720 with funds from William Penny's estate. For "twelve ancient, indigent men."
Including a chapel for the residents (at the end of this picture) from 1770 it was also used as a Blue Coat charity school to teach boys reading, writing, and arithmetic.
William Penny was mayor of Lancaster three times.
The almshouses are still in use and the general public may visit the chapel after 10am daily. It is a haven of tranquility.
