The goalkeeper's fear during penalty shootouts (with apologies to Peter Handke). Fuji X100F (ND filter on). This time, AF was on, and I let the camera decide shutter speed and ISO. As you see, I am still experimenting with (some) automatic camera settings. I wouldn't have gone for a 1/60 sec. and an ISO 2000 combination (though okay for this image), but rather for a higher shutter speed and a lower ISO and therefore capable to freeze movement.

In hockey, players get sent to the penalty bench for their transgressions, usually for two minutes. This bench might make them think twice and comport themselves better. Sue is in the background holding my cane while I find a wide-angle composition that is tolerable to my tasted, such as they might be.

Freedom

Freedom will not come

Today, this year

Nor ever

Through compromise and fear.

I have as much right

As the other fellow has

To stand

On my two feet

And own the land.

I tire so of hearing people say,

Let things take their course.

Tomorrow is another day.

I do not need my freedom when I’m dead.

I cannot live on tomorrow’s bread.

Freedom

Is a strong seed

Planted

In a great need.

I live here, too.

I want my freedom

Just as you.

But laws alone cannot secure freedom of expression; in order that every man may present his views without penalty there must be a spirit of tolerance in the entire population.

Freedom is like a bag of sand. If there is a hole anywhere in the bag, all the sand will run out. If any group of our people are denied their rights, sooner or later all groups stand to lose their rights. All the freedom will run out.

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o'er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine

And twinkle on the milky way,

They stretched in never-ending line

Along the margin of a bay:

Ten thousand saw I at a glance,

Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they

Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:

A poet could not but be gay,

In such a jocund company:

I gazed—and gazed—but little thought

What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude;

And then my heart with pleasure fills,

And dances with the daffodils.

William Wordsworth

Nature's first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold.

Her early leaf's a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.

Capital punishment, the death penalty, or execution is the killing of a person by judicial process as a punishment for an offense. Crimes that can result in a death penalty are known as capital crimes or capital offences. The term capital originates from Latin capitalis, literally "regarding the head" (Latin caput). Hence, a capital crime was originally one punished by the severing of the head.

Capital punishment has in the past been practiced in virtually every society, although currently only 58 nations actively practice it, with 95 countries abolishing it (the remainder having not used it for 10 years or allowing it only in exceptional circumstances such as wartime). It is a matter of active controversy in various countries and states, and positions can vary within a single political ideology or cultural region .

The Penalty Box.

For those of you who monitor a scanner during your fanning adventures, you may recall hearing "The Penalty Box" mentioned in a radio transmission or two. It does have meaning on the railroad.

On a busy mainline where freight trains intermingle with intermodals in both directions, snags develop. Fast train catches slow train. It's expected and can be handled.

When a passenger corridor is added to this mix, the stress level of the DS is exponentially amplified. Rails are bent to weave hotties in and around the slow manifests

Even the priority intermodal train experiences a delay or two to keep passengers moving. Occasionally, this may involve being tucked away in a siding. Hence the Penalty Box.

On this westbound trip, we are taking a timeout. The DS had no other options. He informs us that we will be in the Penalty Box to meet Amtrak 364, 370, and 30.

Thank God for the long days of summer light. My time in the box will put to good use, giving pixel roll-bys to all passing traffic. Trains of CN can be seen behind us overhead, while trains of CSX are just off to thr right.

Port Huron bound 364 has no visible defects as the trailing Charger flies by at 70mph. It's not a bad day to be in the Penalty Box!

SUMMARY SO FAR

Figures supplied by Haringey Council under the Freedom of Information Act (F.o.I.) showed that from December 2005 to May 2006, 2,627 motorists paid Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) the traffic "fines" for stopping in one of the two box junctions marked on the road outside Tottenham Bus Garage. These boxes turned out to be unenforceable as they did not comply with Department for Transport Regulations.

GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS

On 7 April 2008 - in response to questions under the F.o.I. - I eventually got the good news that Haringey Council did not take anyone to Court for "debt" based on these "fines".

But there was also some bad news. Haringey had not repaid the cash - even for PCNs (fines) after 2 March 2006 when Haringey officers realised the two box junctions were non-compliant. Nor - disgracefully - those sent to motorists after 16 March 2006 when Haringey staff were instructed to stop issuing PCNs on these two boxes.

The F.o.I. reply also explained that former Labour councillor Brian Haley - then "Cabinet" member nominally responsible from May 2006 - was not "made aware" that 3,746 PCNs had been wrongly issued in Philip Lane outside Tottenham Bus Garage.

After 90 minutes... the penalties.. An amazing game full of passion and emotions...

One of the most recordable moment of my vacation in Brazil... I will never forget it..

I'm not a Soccer supporter but it was a great moment. I think that every human should go to a Stadium at least once in a life.. even to feel the emotion and the passion of supporters...

My team (Ipatinga won the game...) This penalty was goal...

It was the last home match of the season for Iwate Grulla today. The match was played at the other stadium in Morioka but in many respects the experience was very similar to the last time we attended. Ultimately 2 calamity goals conceded by the home team cost them the match. They never looked like scoring but converted a penalty in the dying minutes and lost against Criacao Shinjuku from Tokyo 3-1.

Hopefully they'll be a better team next year!

This is one of the shots that I really wanted to take for a long time now, but I never had the chance! Finally my soccer-crazy cousin Alexa helped me!!

The acid damage is still present, but not as noticeable this roll.

The weird sticky pink layer on the base (opposite the emulsion) is still there. I had to clean off by hand in soapy water.

Well-known criminal authority from one of the planets of Zeta Reticuli. Belongs to the race of ζ-tervians (men of this race, reaching the age of 50-60 terrestrial years, suffer from severe growth of the brain's frontal lobes, which is accompanied by deformation of the cranium and severe pain; aforemented phenomenon results in death if not taken under the doctors' control).

Became famous for his abnormal level of intellectual capacity, which he uses to organize complex criminal schemes. Has a predilection for validolum.

Several times he escaped from prison; currently the Professor is accused of a number of crimes, including stealing of innovative engines directly from shipyards, assassination of a prominent corrupt politician, experiments on intelligent living beings. The total term of imprisonment for these crimes is about 305 terrestrial years.

The law prohibits the use of the death penalty in the case of elderly aliens, including ζ-tervians, so the Professor is likely to live to the end of his imprisonment.

At the moment current location of the Professor is unknown.

Contact the authorities if you see him.
