Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.
Number 5 in the series folks, hope your not getting tired of my nonsense. This is a very large bird and had never seen this behavior where he could just spring himself into action and take off, usually they have to make a running start to get airborne, but not so in this case, that said I have 2 more and this will end the series of my Pelican adventure.
Thank you all for the visit, and have aa wonderful day.
This was taken after a big storm as the birds returned to the now peaceful water at Woy Woy Waterfront

10 Pelicans wing their way over Lake Michigan...
I like how the bright white feathers stand out against the dark grey of the lake.
This pelican was as interested in people as we were in her. She had great personality and did lots of poses for those of us taking pictures.
Actually, I was looking for the mating pair of Peregrine Falcons, but the Brown Pelicans did keep doing fly-bys of the seaside cliffs to keep me entertained. This was the only one I got in full breeding color though.
After showing a few of my oldest digital images, I'll be posting a few of my latest ones.
Here's a shot of an American White Pelican taken in some nice morning light. Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge, Utal.

Taken in Cypress Hills, which is a beautiful oasis in the middle of the prairies. It is an interprovincial park located in the 2 provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan. We only went to the Alberta side.
Many thanks for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.
Pelecanus Occidentalis
If the Brown Pelican looks a little prehistoric, it is because the basic features of all pelicans have changed very little in the last 30-40 million years.

Brown pelicans are the smallest of the eight pelican species found around the world even though their impressive wingspan can still push 8 feet. They are also one of only two species of pelican that dive for fish which is a truly spectacular sight to see.
In the 1970s, Brown Pelicans were put on the endangered species list after their numbers plummeted because DDT and other pesticides caused them to lay thinner eggs which cracked during incubation. Unlike other birds which incubate their eggs under their breast, pelicans incubate their eggs under their webbed feet. After those products were banned the population surged and in 2009 they were taken off the endangered list.
Taken near Fort Myers, Florida.
As always, thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving any comments or faves, they are very much appreciated.
