Sun peeking over the mountain 'peak'.

Peaceful, serene moment....the colour was so pretty. Last glimpse of the sunlight for the day.

I took this late afternoon shot looking along a valley towards Cathedral Peak, which is the distant peak on the right side of this panoramic landscape. Cathedral Peak is the main point of access to some of the wildest areas of the central Drakensberg, and provides some most spectacular scenery.

Pikes Peak, Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA

This 2400 meter peak is named for the first person to climb it in 1896. Situated just south of Canmore Alberta. The mountain is reflected here in the Canmore Forebay. The East end of Rundle is on the right.

Two of this special mountain ranges iconic mountains in the distance: Pilot and Index peaks. Pilot has been whittled down to a sharp point.

"The Absaroka Range has the distinction of being blanketed with the world's first National Forest. The Shoshone National Forest was established in 1891 due to its corridor proximity to Yellowstone Park. At 2.4 million acres, it is one of the largest on the continent.

There are 46 other peaks over 12,000 ft (3,700 m). The range is drained by the Yellowstone River and various tributaries, including the Bighorn River." Wikipedia

Have a wonderful week!

Peak District The old Quarry at Earl Sterndale

Looking over the village of Hathersage towards Mam Tor and the Great Ridge, from Fiddler's Elbow in the Peak District National Park, England.

The view from near the top of Rainier's Pinnacle Peak Trail. What a great hike and rather grand view.

Thanks for taking a peek.

Thank you to Mr Newcombe of this parish for the unintentional reminder that I should be shooting blossom at this time of year, rather than tramping about on the moors 😆

What a divine morning this was, the hawthorn (or blackthorn!) blossom is just spectacular at the moment. This was my second visit, the previous morning not quite giving me the light I wanted. I travelled there with zero expectations. Forecast told me it was too windy for mist. Fortune certainly favours those stupid enough to go to sleep at 5pm to be up for sunrise 😂

I'll catch up with everyone shortly. Feeling a bit knackered today, went out for a full day of climbing after this. Had a bit of a 'mare when my I got excruciating cramp in my thumb and couldn't straighten it. Not ideal when you're leading 😂 I lowered off in shame.

The peak of the name comes from the appearance of vertical needles in his rock formation.

One of dozens of impressive Chugach peaks along Alaska's Glenn Highway.

I strive to identify the peaks I see on my trips. Rarely are there any markers when I drive by. I study maps and google nearby landmarks. I generally can come up with the name.

Very challenging in BC, Alberta and Alaska as there are just so many of them (a good thing). Was unable to ID this majestic peak (yet). If anyone knows please let me know.

Some pics of more Chugach peaks in comments.

Thanks for taking a peak peek!

Christmas food was great, so it was necessary to get out for some kind of exercise. We made the choice to hike up the highest mountain of East-Westphalia, the Köterberg.

With a hight of almost 500 Meters I can only impress my Dutch and Danish friends, but the climb is a real challenge. This time we did it without oxygen masks and sherpas. On the peak we had a tremendous view over the area, strong winds and even a little bit of sunshine. Köterberg, Lippe, Germany

The highest point in Idaho at 12,662’/ 3859 m, Borah Peak (left) is unique in being primarily composed of limestone (most of the gray rock seen here) that was deposited at the bottom of an ocean 420 million years ago. The slightly younger reddish siltstones on the right side form some wonderful banded strata below the summit of Sacajawea Peak.

Also notable is the light colored band at the base of the mountain seen at the bottom of the picture. I initially assumed this was a road or a trail, but it’s a remnant of a magnitude 4.9 earthquake that hit the area in 1983, the largest quake ever recorded in Idaho. The valley side of the fault dropped as much as 9’/ 2.7 m and the mountain side rose by as much as 3’ / 1 m, leaving a notable fault scarp 21 miles/ 34 km long.

Mt Sefrit, located in the Mount Baker Wilderness, is 7191 ft. One of the tallest mountains in North Cascades, its so tall that it reaches the clouds. This picture is taken from the Mount Baker Ski area near the Heather Meadows/Artist Point area at the end of the Mount Baker Highway. I failed to get a few decent shots of the giant Mount Shuksan and Mount Baker because of the thick clouds covering them. But Sefrit stood prominently at the back for me to capture its magnanimity.

From Tuolumne Meadows, Yosemite National Park. The summit of Cathedral Peak has an elevation of 10,916 ft (3,327 m); Tuolumne Meadows is approximately 8,619 feet (2,627 m).

Happy Mountain Monday! Take care and stay safe.

Thanks for stopping by and for all of your support -- I deeply appreciate it.

There aren't many things more beautiful than a patch of light moving across a landscape. These little peaks are Parkhouse and Chrome Hill, the only vaguely pointy things in the Peak District. And you can see how big they are measured against the two characters near the left edge of the picture. Not very tall.

But then again the Peak District was never given that name because of 'peaked' hills.

Both the sun and the clouds kiss the peak of Mt Rundle in Alberta's Banff National Park.

Twin peaks on the Breccon Beacons tickling the low cloud layer, with yellow gorse in the foreground.

Here's a shot from out of my usual stomping ground, took a drive over to the Peak District down Snake Pass, which is great fun :D Climber up to Bamford Edge, and this shot is overlooking Ladybower reservoir. Was waiting for a sunset that never really materialised, but managed to catch this brief moment where the light was just a little bit awesome :)

A fine Autumn scene at this popular Peak District location.

Peak 1 of the Tenmile Range above Frisco, Colorado.

Just one of the many amazing peaks in Alberta's impressive Kananaskis Country south of Banff. Peaks galore. I plan on spending more time exploring here. ;-))

Hope your weekend is going wonderfully!

During peak hour, SBB is running additional trains to cover the demand on the Laufental main line between Basel and Delémont. Three of them are still worked by around fifty years old EW I/II push-pull trainsets. Due to the position of the sun, only the first of these could be captured on the beautiful Chessiloch viaduct between Grellingen and Zwingen. On a hot August afternoon, class Re 4/4 II locomotive 11143 is crossing the Birs river at this very place.

Thanks for looking.

Pilot Peak, with Index Peak to the right.

Pilot Peak is a striking pinnacle in the immediate northeast of Yellowstone National Park. It is part of the volcanic Absaroka Range which forms the massive eastern escarpment of Yellowstone Plateau. The name Pilot Peak, and it's obvious neighbor, Index Peak, refer to the alignment of the two summits. From the north, they line up to resemble the sight on a mariner's sextant. They proved invaluable to pioneers of the Greater Yellowstone region since they, along with the nearby Tetons, mark the boundaries of the steaming plateau known as Colter's Hell. The Washburn expedition in 1870, credited with 'discovering' Yellowstone Park, used Pilot Peak to guide them to the rim of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and the incredible Geyser Basins beyond. This expedition, armed with photographs by Jackson and paintings by Thomas Moran, convinced Congress to pass the Organic Act of 1872, creating the world's first National Park. The words are inscribed on the Roosevelt Arch outside of Gardiner, Montana: "...to be preserved ... for the benefit and enjoyment of the people."

Sure glad they saved this precious area for posterity.

Happy Friday!

We were waiting for sunrise at Moraine Lake and after a long wait, and a gorgeous shot of Moraine, I captured this walking out. What a beautiful place.
