April 1977. PC 897842 is a former New York Central Flexi-Flow covered hopper. In this shot at Leetsdale, Pennsylvania, the paint hasn't fared very well over the years.
A Black Beauty flying through turn 9 during the 2014 Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen. I love the cars attitude as their pilots attack this corner, getting lite after cresting the hill then accelerating out of this slightly off camber corner. It's also exciting how you can hear them accelerating out of 8 up the hill, then there they are , POW, into view as they come through 9 on the edge.

Six months into Conrail, a less dark spot in the sea of Penn Central black was this PC GP30, on a power set making its way between Bethlehem engine terminal and Allentown Yard.

NS 66Z is led by a colorful mix of power that is reminiscent of an early Conrail consist (down to the peeling paint on the PC unit).

D&H GP39-2 7410 spent quite a bit of time assigned to local service on the NYS&W Southern Division in the late 80s. Here the unit is seen working at the west end of PC Yard in Saddle Brook, NJ.
The Reading heritage of this unit is obvious, and it would be sold to CSX in the early 90s still wearing this scheme.

From the early 1970's - We are on the Boston and Maine RR Fitchburg Division Main Line looking east. West Concord Depot is no longer railroad owned but is still standing. Penn Central Switcher number 9530 is just starting to cross the Fitchburg Main Line. The movement is protected by a 3 light searchlight signal in each direction. The rear of the westbound signal is visible in the photo. The eastbound signal is behind the photographer, it is located a bit west of the diamond crossing to avoid blocking a road crossing. The signals are remotely controlled by Waltham Tower. The PC line is the old New Haven Framingham to Lowell line. The engine is headed to Lowell. West Concord was still an active BM passenger station at the time of this photo. In recent years the MBTA has built a more modern passenger platform. The branch line is abandoned and the main line no longer sees freight trains except occasional detours or special movements.
