Buff Arches is an odd looking moth. Looks like something has taken a bite out of its wings. If you look closely you'll see that it hasn't. A nighttime moth flies July & August. Quite common in England & Wales. Larvae feed on bramble.

Eristalis tenax or Drone Fly is one of the first hoverflies to appear in the year. Not very exiting to look at but I have a soft spot for it. This photo was the start of my love of hoverflies.
