Weds 19/1/00. Late 11th or 12th C Byzantine church with a later belfry is dwarfed by the vast foundations of an earlier, 7 aisled basilica and an archiepiscopal palace both destroyed by the all scouring Arab raids.
One column is dubbed St Paul's Pillar after the apocryphal tradition that the apostle was tied to it and scoured.

Old photos always have a pathos; lost relations... Who were they? They were us once; we will be them. Like the dead in Thornton Wilder's 'Our Town', they are no longer in touch with life and seem confused and sad. We, the living, are so taken up with maintaining our living being, our identity, we have no understanding of what the different concerns of the dead might be.

Inside the small church which was ceded early 1990s by the Orthodox bishop of Pathos to the Catholic & Anglian expatriate communities for their use - perahps the first time that heterodox rites have been celebrated here since the Lusignas displaced the Orthodox with a Catholic diocese in 1220.
