Small gatefold brochure for dvGreen, a sustainable event production company. Measures 3.50 x 4.25 inches and fits in your pocket (admit it...every vertical tri-fold brochure you pick up gets folded in half and dropped in your bag or coat pocket). Also, we based our sizing decision on the long standing theory that "small equals cute" (see: puppies, kittens). Some still had doubts, so I added the smiling snail just in case.

This image appears in the book "Art of Celebration" Sub title: The Making of a Gala- New York Style. Published by Panache, Panache Partners, LLC.
Panache is a vanity publisher. Every party designer, Photographer, Entertainment and Lighting company paid to have their best work showcased. I was photographing for Dia: an art organization that funds contemporary artists and has a Museum and gallery. The Caterer, Abigail contacted me, as we where both hired by Dia: to work their fall fundraiser. They wanted an image for the book and chose this one. The dinner was held across the street from the Hispanic Society of America on 155th Street and Broadway, at the Church of the Intercession; for about 350 guests.
I found out about this image because a photo editor from an Internet magazine called BizBash wanted to hire me sometime.( they pay close to nothing and never did call me again). I found this book on Amazon,
and paid 50 bucks for it. It sits in the offices of party planners all over New York and elsewhere. As far as shooting this kind of work.. It is the hardest kind of photography you can do. There is about 3 minutes between the time that all the candles are lit and the lighting and decorations finalized and the step ladders put away and when the guests start streaming in. It is completely nerve racking. And they don't care. People stand around talking even though you need the room clear.
The funny thing is.. That this is the only evidence that the party happened! Besides Amanda Gordon writing about it in the New York Sun or Bill Cunningham running in to get some of the ladies in their $15,000 gowns and 2.5 Million dollar jewels. After the tables are cleared and candles are blown out, the food digested and the flowers die, And the lies you were told by the people you spent the evening with; them telling you how they were going to call you and have lunch with you soon. After all of that, the only thing left.. Is this photograph.
A side note, with the economy the way it is now..This kind of party is an artifact.
